29 4 Strategic Research Clusters - SRCs

30 COMPET In-Space electrical propulsion and station keeping Major advances in electric propulsion to guarantee the leadership of European capabilities at world level within the timeframe in: Incremental advances in the development of thrusters (with an inorbit validation not later than 2023) Promoting possible disruptive RTD in the field of in-space electrical propulsion The final objective of the SRC is to validate electrical thrusters during the SRC with a flight to be executed not later than 2023 Programme Support Activity (PSA), for the future implementation of a Strategic Research Cluster (SRC) 4 M 1 PSA

31 COMPET Space Robotics Technologies To enable major advances in space robotic technologies for future on-orbit satellite servicing. The final objective of the SRC in H2020 is to achieve an in-orbit demonstration of an autonomous system (at a significant scale) for on-orbit satellite servicing (not later than 2023) Programme Support Activity (PSA), for the future implementation of a Strategic Research Cluster (SRC) 4 M 1PSA

32 SRCs Basic rules for Strategic Research Clusters (SRCs) a) SRC results from PSA and OPERATIONAL GRANTS b) PSA presents proposals for call for operational grant meant to be considered ADVICE to the Commission and Member States within the process of comitology b) The CALLS for the operational grants remain the exclusive competence of the Commission, subject to the comitology procedure (e.g. different from JTI...) c) All entities in any consortia (PSA + operational grants) within SRC are linked by signing: The usual consortium grant agreement and a complementary grant agreement d) Continuation of an SRC will be evaluated at several points by independent experts and its outcome presented to the programme committee for H2020-Space to assess progress

33 Strategic Research Clusters approach System of grants consisting of: Programme Support Activity (PSA) - roadmap and implementation plan for the SRC and provide advice on the calls for operational grants: EPIC and PERASPERA Operational grants - to address different technological challenges identified in the roadmap Expected results of each individual grant would, when taken together, achieve the overall objective of the SRC

34 PSA - Preparation and evaluation of calls Commission responsible for work programmes PSAs are expected to provide advice for the Commission in the form of (i) an SRC roadmap and (ii) draft text for topics calling for those operational grants Evaluation of proposals for operational grants will be in line with the General Rules for participation and dissemination for H2020 PSA s responsibilities in this domain are restricted to an assessment of the operational grants in relation to the objectives of the overall SRCs and not the monitoring of the operational grant itself
