2 ABOUT THE INSTITUTE OF CONTEMPORARY ARTS From 1946 till today, the ICA has always been an outspoken, radical organization, contextualizing contemporary culture within the sociopolitical conditions of its times. My job as its director is to reconnect the ICA to this progressive legacy by leading the conversations that stand to innovate. Stefan Kalmár, Director The Institute of Contemporary Arts was founded in 1946, by a collective of artists, poets and supporters of the arts, including Roland Penrose, Herbert Read, E.L.T. Mesens and Peter Watson. Our founders conceived the ICA as an Institute not a Museum, as Contemporary not Modern, and for the Arts not just Art, positioning itself at the forefront of experimental and progressive culture. On 22 July 1947, the ICA s charitable purposes were set out and registered in the Memorandum of Association of Living Arts Limited as, The objects for which the Company is established are to promote the education of the community by encouraging the understanding, appreciation and development of the arts generally and particularly of contemporary art as expressed in painting, etching, engraving, drawing, poetry, philosophy, literature, drama, music, opera, ballet, sculpture, architecture, designs, photography, films, radio and television of educational and cultural value. 3 JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Department: Reporting to: Team Management: Strategic Relationships: Contract: Salary: Head of Trusts & Foundations Development Director / Deputy Director Senior Development Manager and Development Manager Chief Curator, Director of Finance Permanent, Full time Competitive (please state your salary expectations in your personal statement) PURPOSE OF THE POST The Head of Trusts & Foundations main responsibility is to contribute to the development of the Institute of Contemporary Arts fundraising strategy, playing a key role in achieving the Trusts and Foundations target to support our programme and continued capital fundraising efforts. Our annual Trusts & Foundations programme funding target is 400k from. Our capital target is 12M of which we have received pledges amounting to 3M with the remainder to be raised over the next 24 months. This role will also be responsible for identifying new fundraising opportunities and once secured, to steward and manage relationships with charitable Trusts and Foundations. This is a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious, resourceful and exceptional individual, to lead on Trusts and Foundations fundraising. The ideal candidate will have a track record in fundraising with extensive experience in writing funding bids and evaluation reports. KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Strategic Leadership To work with the Director, Deputy Director, Chief Curator and Director of Finance to articulate and implement the ICA s business plan; conceiving the development strategy that matches the ICA s Vision

4 To work closely with the Chief Curator and Curatorial Team to identify matches between the ICA s programme and funding offered by Trusts and Foundations, including statutory and government funding, European and Non-European funding, and Lottery funding where applicable. With the Senior Management Team and Council Chair, to utilise the skills, experience and connections of the ICA Council and Global Friends of the Institute of Contemporary Arts to ensure the implementation and the success of the ICA s fundraising strategy To ensure that the ICA s fundraising strategy is always up-to-date to meet the changing needs of the organisation and programme. Fundraising To contribute to the Development Department s annual budget, especially to the Trusts and Foundations target. To identify, cultivate, raise funds from and manage relationships with an agreed portfolio of charitable trusts and foundations. To work with the Senior Development Manager to ensure that potential income sources are fully researched and prospects are appropriately targeted To cultivate potential donors and make imaginative, accurate and timely funding proposals to them. To write funding bids and applications, evaluation reports. To ensure that all money raised and grant agreements are acknowledged in writing and that the Finance team is kept aware of all payments. To provide briefings on projects, prospects and issues for Senior Management Team and other key individuals as required. Future and Sustainability / Capital Project To work with the ICA s Director and the Deputy Director on fundraising for the successful delivery of the capital refurbishment project. To work with the Director and Deputy Director on developing and maintaining relationships with existing stakeholders (Arts Council England, Heritage Lottery Fund) ensuring that a realistic strategy is in place. Team Management To lead, manage and motivate the team working on fundraising To undertake any other duties as may be reasonably requested by the Director and Deputy Director from time to time

5 PERSON SPECIFICATION Essential criteria: An experienced, strategic and creative fundraising professional with an impressive track record in fundraising within a cultural organisation. Knowledge of the arts Proven experience with prospecting, cultivating, and securing major donations from Trusts and Foundations Highly skilled writing ability suited to preparing professional funding proposals of the highest standard Capital fundraising experience High level of tact and diplomacy to work well with donors, Council, and staff at all levels Team leadership and management skills Ability to inspire, motivate and lead An excellent network of national and international Trust and Foundations, individual donors, corporate supporters and artists. Passionate about the ICA and an understanding of the strategic objectives of the ICA s Vision and Mission and how individual projects fit within them.
