Pay: per hour (inclusive of VAT if applicable for self-employed contractor option) About People s Health Trust People s Health Trust invests in people with great ideas to create fairer places in which to grow, live, work and age. We receive funding from money raised by 51 society lotteries through The Health Lottery ticket sales. We are an independent charity that distributes this money to people across England, Scotland and Wales with great ideas to make their communities even better. We believe that where you live should not unfairly reduce the length of your life or the quality of your health. We know that people who live in less advantaged neighbourhoods, will live fewer years and have more health problems than those who live in better places. The main causes of poor health are not behavioural (e.g. what you eat, how much you exercise) but are social and economic for example, having good social relationships, decent housing, adequate incomes, access to good quality public environments. National government must bear the main responsibility for improving people s living and working conditions but there is much that local people could do if they had the opportunities. In 2013, People s Health Trust began a bold new three-year strategic plan which aimed to give people whose health are at risk because they live in difficult conditions in disadvantaged neighbourhoods, a real say over how funds from the Trust should be spent to make their neighbourhoods better places to live and therefore improve their health and wellbeing. We believe our three main programmes can do this by bringing people together to forge new and stronger relationships between neighbours, by supporting them to act on local concerns where this is possible and, where it isn t something they can easily influence, to help them to bring pressure to bear on other agencies including local government to meet local needs. About the post We are looking for an experienced Grants Officer to join a bank of Grants Officers to support the work of the Trust during busy times. You will be involved in all aspects of the grants assessment and grants management processes. You will be someone who thrives on using their initiative, enjoys multi-tasking in a very busy

2 environment, and has a strong eye for accuracy and detail, as well as strong communication and planning skills. Important Additional Information for Bank Grants Officer Bank staff are required by the Trust to cover for or supplement our permanent staff. Typically we need bank staff to cover for planned and unplanned staff absence and periods of temporary fluctuation in our grant applications. Bank Grants staff will be expected to be involved in all aspects of the grants assessment and grants management processes. Employment is on a casual basis and you will be contacted directly by the Grants Programme Manager if and when work is available, sometimes at very short notice. Please note that we are unable to guarantee hours of work, which may be for a few hours, a whole day, a few days or a week at a time by mutual consent. We reserve the right not to provide you with work and you are under no obligation to accept work. Consequently, you will not have continuity of employment between engagements. Your days and hours of work will be confirmed on each occasion you are offered and accept a period of work. You are free to work for other organisations whilst working for us but you must ensure that you do not work more than the statutory maximum of an average of 48 hours per week over a 17 week period (as laid down by the Working Time Directive) if employed under a fixed term contract.

3 Post Location Reports to Grants Officer (Bank) London Senior Grants Officer Purpose of post To carry out initial and full assessment of funding applications. To review assessments carried out by external assessors. To undertake grant maintenance and management. To assist in the continuing development of the Trust s funding programme and support all aspects of the grant-making process. Specific Responsibilities Assessment Assess and review applications for funding, analysing information against criteria, including interpreting financial accounts and data and reaching recommendations to Panel. Produce and present assessment reports and summaries, including reviews, for decision-making meetings of panels or committees. Undertake project site visits for assessment purposes. Grant Management Work proactively with grant applicants and recipients, and making recommendations to the Senior Grants Officer or Grants Programme Manager, on a range of grant management issues, including: o Starting grant contracts o Developing terms of grant o Scheduling payments o Reviewing progress to ensure compliance with grant contract terms and conditions (including financial compliance) o Problem-solving o Applying and reviewing risk ratings o Undertake project site visits for monitoring purposes. Procedures and Systems Contribute to the Programme and Policy Team s development of grant making procedures Enter data in to the grants database and produce reports in a timely and accurate manner.

4 Communication Represent the Trust externally. Provide excellent customer service. Liaise with the Communications Department to share knowledge and experience of funded projects Ensure positive communication with the Finance Team. Keep abreast of policy developments that impact on health inequalities and contribute to the Trust s reputation as a credible contributor to the development of health equalities policy. General Undertake any other duties as agreed by the Senior Grants Officer.
