1 APPLICATION CRITERIA Last Dollar Grant The Future Begins Today will offer last-dollar renewable grants of up to $1,200 to selected graduates who have demonstrated unmet financial need for post secondary education. TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THE LAST DOLLAR GRANT, APPLICANT MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING: 1. Students living in Troy and graduates of high schools within the Troy district are eligible to apply. An applicant may participate in the program for a maximum total of four years. Students are eligible to apply up to 5 years after graduation from high school. 2. Students shall be considered for a grant only after they have demonstrated that they have applied for all other sources of financial aid, and they demonstrate financial need as determined by federal guidelines. 3. Students must meet the minimum Grade Point Average requirement of 2. 0 at all times. 4. To be eligible for grants, students must be attending full-time an accredited or qualified post-secondary school (as defined by the Department of Pupil Services), and high schools within the Troy district, as described by Section 170 (B)(I) (A)(II) of the Internal Revenue Code of All grants will be paid directly to the post-secondary institution at the beginning of each term. 6. Students shall submit to The Future Begins Today office their grade reports at the end of each postsecondary term before grants for subsequent terms will be issued to the college or university. 7. Student recipients of Last Dollar Grants must volunteer 15 hours of community service in Troy, Ohio each grant year. 8. Receipt of grants for any term or year does not guarantee receipt of grants in any additional year or term. 9. Upon further review by the Board of Trustees, students who fail to complete a term in which they received grants shall pay back such grants to The Future Begins Today. 10. Grants will be awarded for undergraduate education only. Students who have participated in The Future Begins Today school program will be given first consideration. TO COMPLETE THE APPLICATION PROCESS: 1. Applicant must have applied for financial aid from federal, state, and college/school sources, before that institution s priority deadline or June 1 st, whichever comes first. 2. Applicant must have a cumulative grade point average of 2. 0 at the beginning of the senior year of high school. Applicant may appeal based on special circumstances. 3. Current recipients must have completed the community service from their Last Dollar Grant award. 4. Applicant must mail the documents necessary to complete this application to: The Future Begins Today, P.O. Box 511, Troy, OH 45373, and postmark by June 30 th postmark. 5. Applications that are incomplete on this date will not be considered for funding for any part of the next school year. The guidelines for Last Dollar Grants from The Future Begins Today are available from your school s Guidance Office (Troy H.S., Troy UVJVS, Troy Christian H.S.). Initial grants are offered only to persons who have graduated from a high school in Troy, OH, on or after the year 2000 for a period of five years after graduation. Grants are offered for a maximum of four years. The maximum amount of each year s grant is the lesser of $1,200 or the student s unmet need for financial aid as determined by the student s postsecondary school in its analysis of the student s most recent FAFSA form. The Future Begins Today does not discriminate in awarding last-dollar scholarship grants on the basis of race, sex, religion, national origin, employment, handicap, marital status, sexual orientation, or age. 6 URBANA UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIP Urbana University Is Offering A Full Tuition Scholarship To A Troy, Ohio Student Who Qualifies With The Future Begins Today. The award includes the full tuition cost for a full time student on the Urbana campus. In addition, The Future Begins Today will provide the eligible student with a Last Dollar Grant. The Urbana University Scholarship is renewable for up to four years, as long as the student remains in good standing with the University. How to Receive the Urbana University Scholarship : 1. Apply to and be accepted to Urbana University. 2. Apply to The Future Begins Today for the Last Dollar Grant Award. Deadline date is June 30. (Download application from website.) 3. Submit the Urbana University Scholarship Application along with the Last Dollar Grant Application to The Future Begins Today. (Download from website.) Eligible candidates must qualify for a Last Dollar Grant from The Future Begins Today. The Last Dollar Grant is awarded to Troy students based solely upon financial need as determined by FAFSA.
