Personal Information Student Financial Aid REVIEW YOUR STUDENT STATUS Make sure you are admitted into a Degree or Certificate program. You must be fully admitted before your financial aid can be processed. Courses Only (CO), Diploma (DIPL) and Apprenticeship students are not eligible for loans and most grants. Be sure the College has your official, FINAL transcripts from your high school and any college transcripts on file. COMPLETE YOUR FREE APPLICATION FOR FEDERAL STUDENT AID (FAFSA) To qualify for federal, state and institutional aid you need to complete the FAFSA as soon as possible. Ivy Tech awards many aid program funds on a first-come, first-served basis. To maximize your aid opportunities, please complete the FAFSA when you apply for admission to the College. If you or your family have unusual circumstances (such as loss of employment), complete the FAFSA to the extent you can, then submit the application via the federal Web site or by mail using the address on the application and consult the financial aid office. COMPLETE YOUR REQUIREMENTS AND FINANCIAL AID AUTHORIZATION FORMS before aid can be processed or disbursed. Monitor financial aid messages sent from the Financial Aid Office. MONITOR YOUR FINANCIAL AID STATUS You are responsible for monitoring your status, including your financial aid academic progress. Check your admission, registration and financial aid status on Campus Connect Online Student Services frequently. Check for notifications on your Ivy Tech student account. After your financial aid welcome letter is mailed to you, communications regarding your financial aid will come via your Campus Connect account and your Ivy Tech account. By clicking on either of these outstanding requirements, the electronic authorization page displays. 5. Information provided on this form will be valid until the student notifies the College business office of any changes. Responses may take up to 24 hours to process through the system. Any questions regarding this form should be directed to the business office. NOTE: Students currently on Financial Aid Probation are not eligible to charge books to their aid until after grades have been submitted and the financial aid awards updated in Campus Connect by the college. 4. Step by step instructions provided on the page describe in detail what is required to accept the loan offer in full, accept a partial award and/or decline the entire offered loan amount. 5. 5 Quick Guide for Financial Aid Verification Verification to support the answers provided on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) before aid can be processed or disbursed. Be sure to turn in all required forms to prevent processing delays. to the financial aid office. 4. The REQUIREMENT MESSAGES link provides specific details regarding required documentation. What is verification? The U.S. Department of Education requires that one in three Free Applications for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) be verified by Ivy Tech Community College. FAFSA s selected for verification may include those indicating inaccurate or incomplete information although most are selected on a random, lottery-type basis. If you are selected for verification, the Ivy Tech financial aid office will direct you to the Verification Worksheet which must be completed, signed, and returned before any financial aid awards can be made. Verification must be done utilizing copies of the student s and parent s (or spouses) signed federal tax returns, W2 s, and 1099 s. Verification may require submission of other pertinent documents. The financial aid office may select someone for verification in addition to those selected by the U.S. Department of Education. If you are selected for verification, but do not complete the process, no financial aid funds, including loans, may be credited to your student account. The financial aid office will review your federal tax returns and other submitted material and compare them with the information you submitted on the FAFSA. It is to the student s benefit to respond to and complete the verification process as quickly as possible because no packaging, awarding, and disbursement of aid may be made until it is completed. Participation in the verification process is not optional. Failure to comply with and complete the verification process may result in cancellation of any financial aid awarded. If there are any differences found between information reported in the FAFSA and actual figures reported in tax returns and other required documentation, adjustments may be made to your financial aid award. Frequently Asked Questions on Verification How do I obtain the forms necessary to complete the verification process? The verification forms are available for download from the forms page of the Ivy Tech financial aid Web page financialaid. Links to the appropriate forms will be provided to selected students on the Requirements, Verification and Financial Aid Authorization Forms page of Online Student Self Service accessible through Campus Connect. How long does the verification process take and how will I know when the verification process is completed? The verification process takes approximately days to complete after all the required documentation has been submitted to the Financial Aid Office. After the review process is complete, the student s financial aid awards will be generated. The student will receive notification via their Ivy Tech account when award information is available in the Award for Aid Year page of Online Student Self Service accessible through Campus Connect. Remember it is the student s responsibility to submit the required paperwork in a timely manner. Delays which may occur due to late submission of verification documents: No financial aid grant funds may be credited or disbursed until the verification process is complete and your eligibility is determined. May postpone you and your family s ability to finalize your plans on how to pay for your college education. Financial aid cannot be posted against your Ivy Tech bill until verification is completed. This may result in you having to pay the entire bill when due, late fees, and cancellation of registration. Changes which may occur due to verification: Student status change may affect residency, dependent/ independent status, and other qualifiers for eligibility. Change in EFC may affect eligibility requirements for receiving Pell and other grants as well as other types of aid.
