2 Historical background The Jean Monnet Programme was launched in 1989 aiming to facilitate the introduction of European integration studies in universities. The programme takes the name of Jean Monnet ( ), one of the architects of the European Union, The Father of Europe. 2

Activities: - Gathering information, exchanging practice, building knowledge and promoting the European Integration process. - Enhancing cooperation between different HEI and other relevant bodies inside/outside Europe. - Creating a high knowledge exchange platform with public actors. Activities: support innovation, cross-fertilisation, spread of EU content: - Developing and delivering appropriate pedagogical content for school students. - Training and continuing education for teachers - Support the creation of EU Studies and enhance the level of knowledge of a department, staff in a given faculty/school. - Organize conferences, seminars and delivery of courses on EU. - Information and dissemination activities. 11 Support to Associations Support to Associations: Who: Any association of professors and researchers specialized in the EU studies (officially registered and has legal status) Activities: - Perform research in European subjects. - Collecting information and providing analysis and visions on specific subjects. - Associations legal activities i.e. organisation of annual board meeting and promotional events for more EU visibility, publication of a newsletter, launching website. 20 Successful Story: Jean Monnet Module EuroMed Relations From Southern Perspective Beneficiary: Cairo University Faculty of Economics and Political Science. Duration: 3 years 2010 to 2013 with one year extension (auto-finance) Budget: Total Cost: euro, the agency co-financed with euro. Number of Lectures: 60 lectures (3 hours each). Number of stakeholders: 90 participants Number of instructors: 32 (Egyptian and European Professors, Ambassadors, Experts in the EU Relations). 20
