7 Overview Sustainable Jersey for Schools offers an online application for certification. Districts and schools submit applications, but only schools are certified Points earned on the district application flow to their schools 1 st Submission Deadline: January 18 th 7

9 Applying for Certification/Recertification Access application on our website One application cycle per year Certification lasts for 3 years

10 2017 Application Cycle January 18 th : First online application submission deadline Late February: First-round review comments provided April 10 th : Second application submission deadline for those who applied in January only Early May: Second-round review comments provided June 29 th : Third (final) application submission deadline Mid-August: Final decision on pending applications 10

27 District and School Collaboration Required Those working on the district application and those working on schools applications need to communicate with each other Need to determine whether school or district will complete Both actions District application needs to be completed in same time frame as school applications 27

28 Important Tips Read the action. What to do & how to do it What to submit Sustainable Jersey for Schools Actions award points for activities ABOVE what is required by law. Submitting only the required minimum training or state forms will not result in approval. Board policies must be fully adopted in order to receive points. Make sure you allow time for two readings before the deadline! 28

29 Strategy for moving forward! Make a plan! Focus on completing your Green Team Action Choose at least two Priority Actions Then review remaining actions to determine which actions you are close to completing by the final deadline. Aim first for Bronze (150 pts) then for the stars! Identify the outstanding items needed for each action to meet the submission standard Add additional users to your dashboard to help with uploading documentation 29

31 District and School Dashboard This is where you can access your application, update your profile, add users, and view registration documentation In order to have access to a dashboard you must: Sign up for a personal account on our website (if you do not already have one) Be linked to a district or school through the registration process OR by someone already linked 31

32 Use this primarily to update contact information Please keep this information up to date since these contacts will receive important s regarding the program and the application processes Click Update Profile to save changes Update District/School Profile 32

33 Manage Users Allows you to add or remove users to the district/school dashboard Can be designated as owner (limit 5) or contributor Both can work on application (edit, upload, submit for review, etc.) Owners can add/remove other owners & contributors Contributors can add other contributors 33

38 Final Thoughts & Take Aways Teamwork: Add users to your account to assist with uploading documentation to speed up the certification process. Certification Cycle: It is doable! Many schools were certified in 2015 and 2016 by the 2 nd deadline, and additional schools continued to work on their application throughout the application cycle up to the final deadline. Open Source: Our Certification process is open so that best practices can be shared. Please black out any sensitive information from your submissions.
