The size f the grant usually mirrrs the size and scale f the prpsed prject Extended Descriptin The Sainsbury Family Charitable Trusts is the perating ffice f 18 grant making trusts established by three generatins f the Sainsbury family. The trusts' dnatins t charitable causes ver several decades represent ne f the leading examples f sustained philanthrpy in Britain. Each trust wrks autnmusly as an independent legal entity with a separate Bard f Trustees, actively led by an individual member f the family with keenly-fllwed interests. The Trusts each have their wn areas f interests and plicies, which can ften be very specific and fcused. Tgether, the Trusts aim t supprt charitable causes in the UK. Latest Infrmatin Applicatins can be made at any time, but may be cnsidered at varius times depending n the Trust. Key Criteria The majrity f Trusts prefer t fund new, innvative and unusual wrk which addresses new issues and can be successfully replicated r becme self-sustaining. This has resulted in the Trusts adpting a practive apprach t grant distributin as ppsed t being reactive; thus respnses t unslicited applicatins frm nly a very mdest part f their grant making. It shuld therefre be understd that the majrity f unslicited prpsals received will be unsuccessful. As a rule the Gatsby, Glass-Huse, Linbury, Staples and Tedwrth trusts d nt cnsider unslicited prpsals. The ther trusts will cnsider exceptinal prpsals which clsely fit their specific areas f interest. As the majrity f the Trusts d nt publish literature cntaining infrmatin n their pririties, grant guidelines are difficult t btain, especially fr the smaller and newer Trusts. Therefre, this reprt

Envirnment prjects verseas, especially cmmunity-based agriculture initiatives, which aim t help peple help themselves in an envirnmentally sustainable way. The Staples Trust Gender issues dmestic vilence, wmen s rights and gender studies. Overseas develpment - prjects which empwer wmen, supprt the rights f indigenus peple, imprve shelter and husing, generate incme in disadvantaged cmmunities, and encurage sustainable agriculture. Envirnment prjects in the UK which fcus n renewable energy and rural cnservatin, and prjects in Central & Eastern Eurpe, which fcus n training cmmunity and business leaders, and sharing skills and infrmatin. Hmelessness, especially affecting yung peple and wmen, and cvering facilities such as wmen's refuges. Arts utreach wrk by lcal grups fr the benefit f disadvantaged peple. Envirnmental prjects, especially with a strng educatinal element. Match Funding Restrictins Applicants are expected t shw what ther surces f funding have been sught and secure Restrictins Individual Trusts have their wn exclusins plicies, and applicants are advised t cntact the Trust directly t enquire if a prject is eligible. In general, the Trusts d nt give direct supprt fr: Individuals. Educatinal fees. Expeditins. Applicatin Prcedure Applicatins shuld be sent by pst with a descriptin f the prpsed prject, cvering: The rganisatin explaining its charitable aims and bjectives, and giving its mst recent annual incme and expenditure, and current financial psitin. The prject requiring funding why it is needed, wh will benefit and in what way. The funding - breakdwn f csts, any mney raised s far, and hw the balance will be raised. Supprting bks, brchures, DVDs, annual reprts r accunts shuld nt be included at this stage. All applicatins will receive a standard acknwledgement letter.
