Grant requests will only be considered from Bannock, Bear Lake, Bingham, Caribou, Franklin, Oneida and Power counties. 2 April 21, 2011 Contact: Jennifer Oxley Communication Director Idaho Community Foundation FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (208) Bistline Foundation will distribute more than $80,000 in southeast Idaho through ICF IDAHO FALLS The F.M. and Anne G. and Beverly B. Bistline Foundation is becoming a fund in the Idaho Community Foundation (ICF) and could provide more than $80,000 every year to arts-focused nonprofits in southeastern Idaho. Nonprofits in Bannock, Bingham, Bear Lake, Caribou, Franklin, Oneida and Power counties will be able to apply for grants twice yearly in May and November. The first of these grant cycles will open in November This is the second large fund in ICF that will benefit southeastern Idaho. The Ifft Foundation became an ICF fund in 2001 and since then has distributed more than $1 million. Bruce Bistline, a cousin of Beverly Bistline and chairman of the Bistline Foundation, said she had a passion for arts of all kinds. Beverly was an attorney who graduated with a theater arts degree from the University of Idaho and lived in San Francisco during the late 1960s, where she was active in the city s art and music scene. "She believed that art and music were crucial to a functioning society," Bistline said of Beverly. "In her view, If there weren t good art and music opportunities in a society then it probably wasn t very creative in other ways either." The Bistline Foundation was founded by Beverly in 1999 and gave grants in southeast Idaho totaling about $25,000 per year. Recipients have included the Gateway Foundation for Theatre and Dance, Musicians West, the Idaho State University Music Department and Theater Department, and many others. When Beverly passed away in October 2010 she left the majority of her sizeable estate to the foundation, which meant more grant money was available. The increased endowment looked like it was going to become a lot of work and responsibility that we weren t ready for, Bistline said of the decision to turn the foundation into an ICF fund. ICF will invest the fund, gather the grant applications, verify the nonprofit status of applicants and other administrative tasks. Bistline, who is an attorney with Gordon Law Offices in Boise; Alan Van Orden, a Pocatello CPA; and Jesse Robision, a consultant in Pocatello who has been active with several southeast Idaho nonprofit groups, are fund advisors. They will review the grant applications and make recommendations to the ICF Board about how to distribute the money. Van Orden is treasurer of ICF and serves on its board of directors. Recipients are: City of Franklin $10,000 to install a wheelchair accessible ramp and concrete boardwalk in the ball diamond grandstand, and purchase trees, boulders and playground equipment. Pocatello Zoo $10,000 to help pay for the purchase of the landscaping, irrigation equipment and materials for the new Grizzly Bear Exhibit. Friends of the Marshall Public Library (Pocatello) $5,585 to landscape the back of library with drought resistant plants and create a separate children s teaching garden. Grace Joint School District #148 $10,000 to buy trees, flower beds, bushes, permanent concrete tables, sod and pavers for the development of an outdoor student common area that will facilitate student learning opportunities and promote student health. Health West, Inc. (American Falls) $2,500 to redesign the American Falls Clinic landscape to create a more appealing and welcoming environment for the community. National Oregon Trail Center (Montpelier) $5,000 to landscape the center s exterior with native trees and plants that would have been found on the trail. Pocatello Neighborhood Housing Services, Inc. $4,650 to purchase a 7-foot by 18-foot enclosed trailer to house a mobile tool lending library. Rotary Club of Montpelier $7,500 to complete necessary upgrades to the baseball diamonds at Adams Street Park and refurbish cement benches along Washington Street. Shoshone-Bannock Tribes (Fort Hall) $2,500 to purchase trees and shrubs to plant around the Fort Hall Reservation as part of an overall beautification project. Three Rivers Resource Conservation & Development Council (Pocatello) $9,965 to complete Phase 1 of the South Arthur Oxbow enhancement project which includes the creation of swales and berms, a gravel pathway, a gravel base for a future sidewalk and seeding.

The luncheon is Tuesday, May 10 from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at the Boise Centre and seats are still available. Tickets are $60 each for patron seating near the front of the room and $50 each for reserved seating. Patron tables of 10 are $580 and reserved tables of 10 are $480. McElveen-Hunter is a long-time philanthropist and charitable-cause activist. She was the U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Finland from She was appointed by President George W. Deadline for applying is July 1. In 2010, ICF awarded $162,710 to 99 nonprofit organizations in southwest Idaho. Organizations may apply for up to $5,000. Individuals are not eligible for the regional grant program. Grant areas include, but are not limited to: Arts and Culture Education Emergency Services Libraries Conservation/Environment Health Recreation Social Services Public Projects In general, ICF favors activities that: Reach a broad segment of the community, especially those citizens whose needs are not being met by existing services that are normally expected to be provided by private rather than government sources Request seed money to realize unusual opportunities to meet urgent needs in the community Stimulate and encourage additional funding Promote cooperation and avoid duplication of effort Help make a charitable organization more effective and efficient and better able to sustain itself over the long term. Grant recipients are from each of the counties represented in ICF s north Idaho region: Benewah, Bonner, Boundary, Clearwater, Idaho, Kootenai, Latah, Lewis, Nez Perce and Shoshone. Money for the grants comes from ICF s Greatest Need fund for North Idaho, which includes funding from the Archie Teater Fund for Children with Disabilities, Children s Charities of Idaho, Frank and Dorothy Peavey Memorial Fund, Herbert D. McAvoy Fund, Idaho Community Foundation Youth Trust Fund, Idaho Community Foundation Anti- Poverty Endowment Fund, Jane Sandy Fund and the Steele-Reese Foundation Special Project Fund. Nonprofit organizations can apply for grants of up to $5,000 through the competitive grant cycle. The Northern Regional Grants Panel, which includes representatives from each north Idaho county, meets every April to review the applications and make recommendations. 13 June 1, 2011 Contact: Jennifer Oxley Communication Director Idaho Community Foundation FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (208) Idaho Community Foundation hosts 2 nd North Idaho Luncheon COEUR D ALENE Idaho Community Foundation will host its 2 nd Annual North Idaho Luncheon on June 14 at the Coeur d Alene Resort from 11:30-1:30 p.m. The keynote speaker is Hattie Kauffman, a correspondent on The Early Show on CBS. Kauffman is an Idaho native and a member of the Nez Perce Tribe. She started her television career in the Pacific Northwest at KING 5 News in Seattle and is the first and only Native American to report for a national network. An Emmy Award winner, Kauffman has been a national correspondent for CBS News The Early Show since November Prior to The Early Show, she served as a senior consumer correspondent for This Morning and has also contributed reports to CBS s Sunday Morning, 48 Hours, the CBS Evening News and CBS Radio News. Last year was the first year ICF hosted this event in Coeur d Alene and more than 250 people attended.
