2 Speaking about clusters In Europe cluster organisations bring together a number of members in a network, research institutes, universities, large companies, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in a certain geographic territory and working in a specific field (economic sector) Main objectives: bring stakeholders from the same territory and related sectors together for synergies support their members collaboration activity, notably research, development & innovation (RDI) and internationalisation activities Activities: Networking events Trainings Study tours / visits Collaborative projects. 2

6 Cluster Matchmaking Events The opportunity to engage with peers on international level Example from EU-U.S. event 2016: 70+ participants: 34 EU clusters and 39 US clusters / Economic Development Organisations 335 meetings overall, in average 10 meetings per cluster In average 5 concrete collaboration cases per EU cluster (formal agreements, cluster visits, soft landing programme for SME members ) 6
