2 Industry transform research hub The scheme was established three years ago (2013). Overview Research Hubs will engage Australia s best researchers in issues facing the new industrial economies and training the future workforce. Objectives encourage collaborative R&D projects between universities and organisations outside the Australian higher education sector that will solve challenging industry issues through innovative research relevant to the Industrial Transformation Priorities; attract investment from the local and international business community by supporting the internationallyrecognised excellence of Australian universities and their industry partners; and leverage national and international investment in targeted industry sectors. 16 Future direction of nano-based products and applications 1. Engineered concrete materials using nanotechnology that will allow maximum use of locally available materials and avoid unnecessary transport. 2. Concrete mix designs resistant to freeze thaw, corrosion, sulfate, ASR, and other environmental attacks. 3. Develop speciality products such as products with blast resistance and conductive properties as well as temperature-, moisture-, and stress-sensing abilities.
