2 Who We Are School Entrepreneurship Network (SEN) is a project that builds entrepreneurial capacity of Rwanda s high school youth through school-based entrepreneurship clubs. Find more on Statement of Purpose o Our core task: Encourage students and support teachers to create and sustain entrepreneurship clubs in Rwandan high schools. o The core values that guide all our work: Working with and strengthening existing resources (e.g. teachers, curriculum, and initiatives). o Our long-term vision: A flourishing entrepreneurship club in every Rwandan high school by 2020 What We Do 1. Entrepreneurship clubs 2. Entrepreneurship Training (for teachers/mentors and students in clubs) 3. Entrepreneurship Competitions, 4. Entrepreneurship Plus (with Talk, Read, and Relax sub-programs) Our primary mission focus is to establish the entrepreneurship clubs program in Rwandan secondary education system. All the other programs above are there to sustain our work with entrepreneurship clubs. Facts o Entrepreneurship clubs: 17 clubs in 15 districts o Competitions: 2 successful editions of the Best Business Idea Competition so far o Training: organized for students and teachers since o Entrepreneurship Plus: Talks, Debates, Games and Global Entrepreneurship Week activities organized since 2011.

3 TEACHER ENTREPRENEURSHIP TRAINING - REPORT December 3 rd 14 th, INTRODUCTION As part of its programs, School Entrepreneurship Network (SEN) has established the Training Program to support its work with Entrepreneurship Clubs. SEN s training program is designed for: o Educational leaders (conferences, seminars, and workshops) o Teachers/mentors of entrepreneurship clubs (advanced entrepreneurship & mentoring) o Students leading entrepreneurship clubs (entrepreneurship & leadership) o Student members of the most competitive clubs (business development.) o Competition winners with businesses or brilliant business ideas (business development) In the perspective of building the capacity of entrepreneurship teachers, School Entrepreneurship Network (SEN Rwanda) in partnership with the Rwanda Business Development Center (BDC Rwanda) in Kigali, and the Regent University Center for Entrepreneurship (RCE) in Virginia, US; have embarked on a project of training and equipping Rwandan entrepreneurship teachers with business and entrepreneurship skills. Through a project concept made by SEN Rwanda and shared to Dr. John Mulford, the Director of Regent Center for Entrepreneurship in July The project of training of entrepreneurship teachers from schools working with SEN Rwanda was agreed upon in August, and a special intensive BDC cohort was scheduled for 10 days from December 3 rd to December 14 th, In September 2013, SEN Rwanda sent invitation letters to high schools across Rwanda to choose one (1) entrepreneurship teacher for the training opportunity in December. Of the 30 invited teachers, 17 were expected to come from schools with entrepreneurship clubs, 8 were to come from schools that participated in other various activities organized by SEN and the remaining 5 were to be delegated by Umwalimu Savings and Credit Cooperatives (SACCOs) at provincial level considering 1 teacher per province and Kigali City.

Miller (VC, Regent Center for Entrepreneurship) o Local Facilitators Patrice HABINSHUTI (BDC graduate, Director of SEN Rwanda) Anaclet BAGIRISHYA (BDC graduate, Programs Officer at SEN Rwanda) Attendees: 21 trainees competed the training Training Objectives The training was aimed equipping the teachers with: o The knowledge and skills to plan and start their own businesses o The advanced knowledge to effectively teach the entrepreneurship course o The capacity and resources to mentor the students in their school based entrepreneurship clubs o A platform to share the entrepreneurship experience and best practices between different schools o Connections to the business world o Fuel to unlock teacher s entrepreneurial potential

6 4. TRAINERS & FACILITATORS a. TRAINERS Jason Benedict is strategist and trainer at Regent University Center for Entrepreneurship in Virginia, USA, and Co-founder of Rwanda Business Development Center in Kigali. Jason has a special interest in Business as Mission. He holds an MBA and a MA from Regent University and also has a graduate degree in Missiology. Over the years Jason has had the pleasure of equipping leaders around the world, leading international teams, running Kingdom organizations, starting businesses and developing innovative ways to advance Kingdom businesses globally. Areas of Interest & Expertise include Entrepreneurship, Business and Organizational Development, Finance and Investment, Strategic Missions, Community Development and Transformation Dr. Richard L. Miller, DSL is a VC of Regent Center for Entrepreneurship. He earned his PhD in Strategic Leadership at Regent University. Richard is an experienced business consultant, trainer, and life coach. Dedicated to helping Regent s global initiatives, he decided to mentor a BDC graduate and was assigned to Patrice (BDC Cohort 1). Since 2012, Richard is the conceiver and trainer for Rwanda for Rwanda Rising Program, a Kingdom Business training program for Rwanda youth mainly at university. In 2012, this program graduated 25 aspiring young leaders and entrepreneurs, and the number increased to 39 in b. LOCAL FACILITATORS Patrice Habinshuti serves as the project manager of School Entrepreneurship Network (SEN). He holds a BSc degree from KIST, he is a BDC-graduate (cohort 1), and did various training in entrepreneurship including entrepreneurship, financial literacy, project management, etc. Anaclet Bagirishya serves as the programs officer of School Entrepreneurship Network (SEN). He holds a BSc from KIST and he is also a BDC-graduate.

TRAINING ENVORONMENT o The careful organization of the training, the convenience of the training area and experienced trainers made it possible to ensure a good premium learning environment for the trainees. Life during the training o All the trainees lived at the training center for the entire period of the training o The trainers also lived at the training center and unplugged support to the trainees. o Reasonable time was allocated to networking time during coffee breaks, lunch and dinner periods to give the trainees adequate time to network, share and work on projects Training Description o The training mode: The training mode was learner-centered and participative. o The training content: The training covered a premium content offered in the 14-week Regent University certified program run by Rwanda Business Development Center. This content was adapted and condensed into an intensive training program comprising of 3 sessions per day (morning, afternoon and evening), what enabled the trainees cover the program within 10 days. o Practicality of the training: The training was very practical. Every teacher who attended the training fully developed a business during the training. o Training proceeding: All trainees had to take part to different class activities. Every class included a participatory lesson, a group or individual practical activity, and a presentation which was organized at the end of every session. o Business Plan Competition: At the end of the training, all the trainees presented their business plans to a panel of judges and the best 3 presentations to convinced were identified. These were awarded with a Certificate of Merit. Besides, during the awards ceremony these plans were recommended to Umwalimu Sacco Teachers Bank further evaluation and funding.

GRADUATION CEREMONY Award of Certificates After completing the 10 day training and successfully presenting their businesses, the 21 trainees were given their certificates at a colorful graduation ceremony held at ALARM Training Center on Friday December 13 th, Apart from graduating teachers, the Ceremony was attended by the Representative of the teachers bank - Umwalimu SACCO, Mr. Robert Asiimwe and the CEO of the Rwanda Business Development Center (BDC Rwanda), Mr. Jean Bosco Iyacu and the team of trainers (Jason Benedict & Richard L. Miller) among other guests. The facilitators from SEN Rwanda (Patrice Habinshuti, Anaclet Bagirishya and Bernard Uwayisaba) were also in attendance coordinating the ceremony proceedings, The 21 teachers who successfully completed the training and presented their businesses received Certificates of Completion signed by Representatives of Regent University Center for Entrepreneurship (Jason Benedict), BDC Rwanda (Jean Bosco Iyacu) and SEN Rwanda (Patrice Habinshuti). The awarding ceremony was also attended by members of the media including Igihe, Izuba Rirashe, La Novelle Releve and The New Times.
