1 2010 Grants The foundation has significantly increased its rate of giving during the economic downturn and recovery period, in response to the increased demand for children's services at a time of budget cuts and decreased revenues. In 2010, the foundation awarded cash grants of over $450,000 for program support, and a variety of other types of support including capacity building and infrastructure support, long and short term fundraising challenge grants, and organizational effectiveness grants.* Additionally, the foundation provided over 400 hours of direct non-financial support services to our partners, in the areas of communications (website, media, press, online, video, webinar), collaborative project planning, identifying and implementing strategic partnerships, and related assistance. * Grants approved at the end of each calendar year, as well as challenge grants, may be approved in one year, and funded in the next. American Heart Association 816 South Figueroa Street, Los Angeles, CA $15,000 in program support for the Youth In Action program, collaborating on-site with two Los Angeles Green Dot "Animo" high schools. Youth In Action provides cross-content curricula in persuasive argument, the California legislative process and civics, heart health & nutrition principles, and a learning adventure to the State Capitol in Sacramento. Arts in Education Aid Council Inc Sherman Way, #207, Canoga Park, CA $15,000 in program support to keep arts education programs going in three Title I elementary schools, serving 2,000 children, most of whom are Hispanic and live at or near the poverty line. Association of Small Foundations 1720 N Street NW, Washington, DC $5,000 in program support for the Impact and Evaluation Initiative in 2010, providing comprehensive education programs to over 3000 member grantmakers, to elevate the impact of grantmaking in communities across the country. Bright Prospect Scholar Support Program 281 South Thomas Street, Suite 302, Pomona, CA $25,000 issued as a Challenge Grant to assist in fundraising for this highly effective college access and scholarship program. The challenge was successful, with twelve donors, including several lapsed donors, contributing amounts ranging from $10 to $10,000 to reach the fundraising goal for the $25,000 match. 2 $35,000 to support capacity building and organizational effectiveness projects. CCPY programs provide an intensive curriculum, mentoring, and academic support to high school students at two San Jose schools, resulting in dramatic increases in attainment of personal and academic goals, attendance and graduation rates for Latino youth from low-income households, and healthy life and social choices. Child Advocates of Silicon Valley 509 Valley Way, Milpitas, CA $10,000 in program support and $10,000 fundraising challenge grant for the Middle School Foster Youth Education Program to improve educational outcomes and to provide a consistent, caring adult (Advocate) for foster youth in grades 6, 7, and 8 in Santa Clara County. This challenge has been successfully met and funds were awarded in Citizen Schools, Inc. 400 Duane Street, Room 125, Redwood City, CA $15,000 in program support for Santa Clara County S.T.E.M. Apprenticeships, providing extended learning time and educational opportunities for middle school students in Santa Clara County. Dramatic Results 3308 Lime Avenue, Signal Hill, CA $10,000 Challenge Grant to assist in fundraising for the organization's key arts/mathematics cross-curricular projects serving teachers and students in Los Angeles Unified School District. This challenge was successfully completed. Environmental Volunteers 3921 E. Bayshore Road, Palo Alto, CA $35,600 plus a $2,500 challenge grant to support the Science By Nature ( collaborative project by providing funds to staff the implementation, expansion, evaluation, and dissemination of this pilot collaborative project. This challenge was successfully completed. Environmental Volunteers 3921 East Bayshore Road, Palo Alto, CA $20,000 to Environmental Volunteers as the fiscal agent for the Science By Nature Collaborative, a cohort of environmental and science education organizations serving all 4th and 5th graders in the Mountain View Whisman School District, in this first district-wide implementation of the collaborative. Inner City Arts 720 Kohler Street, Los Angeles, CA $10,000 in program support for the Arts Reach Program, Performing Arts and Visual and Media Arts Institute for middle and high school students in Los Angeles. Iridescent Massachusetts Ave. #5, Los Angeles, CA $10,000 for computer equipment for the Los Angeles Science Studio which opened Fall Law Foundation of Silicon Valley 152 N. Third Street, 3rd Floor, San Jose, CA $2,000 in program support for the Legal Advocates for Children and Youth (LACY) Program. This grant was nominated through the Frieda C. Fox Family Foundation's Junior Board. Los Angeles Education Partnership 1055 W. Seventh Street #200, Los Angeles, CA $15,000 in program support for the Science and Math Initiative, offering wide-ranging teacher professional development in science and math that will increase educator effectiveness and student achievement in these subjects. No Limits Theatre Group Inc Washington Boulevard Second Floor, Culver City, CA $2,500 to provide roughly 80% of the cost of technical consulting services for an outside consulting firm to create and launch the new No Limits website and content management system. O Neill Sea Odyssey 2222 East Cliff Drive #222, Santa Cruz, CA $5,000 specifically designed as a match for a fundraising challenge to support 4 elementary school teachers and their students at underserved schools in academic year Reading Partners 528 Valley Way, Milpitas, CA $20,000 for program support for One-on-One Literacy Intervention programs in Los Angeles and Santa Clara Counties. 4 251 Rhode Island Street, Suite 205, San Francisco, CA $10,000 Challenge Grant, successfully completed, to assist in fundraising for the replication and expansion of Spark's middle school career exploration and mentoring programs to a pilot program in Los Angeles County. Resonate, Inc. (dba 'Spark') 251 Rhode Island Street, Suite 205, San Francisco, CA $2,000 to support Spark's new program launch in Los Angeles, opening March 2010 after five years of successful programming and growth in the San Francisco Bay Area. Spark provides career exploration and mentoring programs to middle school students, who will apprentice at companies such as Fox and Disney Interactive, in fields including Videogame Design, Performing Arts, Animal Care, Fashion Design, and Law, Government & Safety. This grant was nominated through the Frieda C. Fox Foundation's Junior Board. Resource Area for Teachers (RAFT) 1355 Ridder Park Drive, San Jose, CA $10,000 in program support and $5,000 fundraising challenge grant, which was successfully completed, for the Math Learning Project at Orchard School. San Jose Conservation Corps and Charter School 1534 Berger Dr. San Jose, CA $7,500 to provide one, merit-based student internship, which will pay a stipend and grant credit toward the vocational certificate program, for the Academy student selected to advance his/her leadership and technical skills through service as the Classroom and Laboratory Assistant to the Technology Director. Society of Women Engineers - Santa Clara County PO Box 61333, Sunnyvale, CA $15,000 in program support for Summer Week 2010 at Santa Clara University. South Central Scholars S. Western Ave., Suite 401, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA $15,000 for a challenge grant, which was successfully completed, to raise funds to implement an outreach strategy which complements their current high school programming, extending services to 8th grade students to encourage a 'college-going culture' and improve educational and social success rates for 8th graders in South Los Angeles. Stanford University Office of Science Outreach Building 60, Room 214, Stanford, CA $20,000 in program support for Raising Interest in Science and Engineering Research program, which inspires and prepares bright, low-income underrepresented first generation college-bound students in Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties to pursue a S.T.E.M. course of study after high school through a 7-week research internship experience.

5 The Breakthrough Collaborative, Inc Park Ridder, San Jose, CA $10,000 in program and general operating support for Breakthrough Silicon Valley for the High School College Bound Program. Valley University Women Milbank Street, Studio City, CA $1,500 to provide scholarship funds to a local high school graduate with a record of outstanding scholastic achievement and leadership, through a merit-based application process administered by Valley University Women's Scholarship Fund.
