3 MESSAGE OF CEO We are delighted to announce the official launch of the Islam Channel Business Awards 2019, this annual event will be the coming together of a wide business community with a rich heritage of cultural diversity as well as recognising the achievements of Muslim men and women at the forefront of their communities and industries. The event will honour the success and achievements of Britain s Muslim individuals, groups and business people and highlight the significant role Muslims play in contributing to a better Great Britain. There are hundreds of Muslim businesses in the UK, both large and small, who provide much-needed services locally and contribute millions of pounds to our economy. It is important to celebrate their achievements especially in the current climate. The awards night will be a celebration of community and co-operation as well as diversity. 4 INTRODUCTION The award ceremony will be held on Friday 1 st March at the centrally located, Hilton Metropole London, Hilton s largest hotel in Europe. The business awards ceremony will celebrate the outstanding work of Muslim businesses from a range of sectors and inspirational entrepreneurs and services. The evening will be attended by the business and professional community in London including ambassadors, parliamentarians, and prominent figures. The event shall also be broadcast live on Islam Channel TV, who has a reach across over 100 countries across Europe, The Middle East, Africa and Asia. The call for entries commences in October 2018 and closes in January The shortlist of finalists will be announced in February

5 ENTREPRENEURSHIP AMONGST BRITISH MUSLIMS The latest census puts Britain s Muslim community at some 2.8 million. Britain is home to one of the most diverse Muslim communities on Earth, with Islam the second largest faith group in the United Kingdom. There are an estimated 10,000 Muslim millionaires in the UK with liquid assets of more than 3.6 billion, with more than a dozen British Muslims listed in the 2013 Sunday Times Rich List of the most affluent in the UK. 10,000 Muslim millionaires in the UK 3.6 billion Thousands of Muslim owned businesses have made a significant contribution to the UK economy and by extension the cultural life of Britain. In London alone, there are over 13,400 Muslimowned businesses in London creating more than 70,000 jobs. An estimated 33.6% of Small to Medium Enterprises in London are Muslim-owned. Muslim Businesses in Great Britain act as a role model for the whole UK community. The Islam Channel Business Awards is an effort to give recognition and exposure to these businesses. 8 AWARDS CATEGORIES * The awards aim to honour the success and achievements of Britain s Muslim individuals, groups and business people and bring a greater good, whilst solving social challenges for the British Muslim communities. BUSINESS AWARDS Start-up Business of the Year This award is for businesses which have been trading for fewer than two years and have demonstrated a high level of entrepreneurship and vision to establish themselves in their marketplace. Family Business of the Year This award will celebrate the UK family business sector, to recognise the diversity of family owned business across the UK and to celebrate the contribution that they make. Small Business of the Year (up to 10 employees) Open to organisations with 10 or less staff and have delivered consistent growth through great leadership, understanding their customers and engaging employers. Medium Business of the Year (11 to 49 employees) This award is open to any established business employing employees and has been trading for more than two years. The company should be able to demonstrate all-round strength and figures demonstrating growth in sales and profitability. Large Business of the Year (50+ employees) This award is open to any business that employs more than 50 staff or has an annual turnover of more than 5million. The company should be able to demonstrate outstanding organisation, exceptional financial returns and strong growth. Online Business of the Year Open to any organisation operating online, this award recognises those best optimising all aspects of ecommerce to achieve growth and strong financial performance through exceptional customer experience. Restaurant Business of the Year This award is open to restaurants that are either independent, part of a franchise or chain and have been operating successfully for the last 2 years. Hajj and Umra Business of the Year The Hajj and Umrah Award provides recognition to licensed Hajj & Umrah Tour Operators within the community. 9 INDIVIDUAL AWARDS Business Person of the Year This award will recognise an individual who has been instrumental in the overall success of a business over the last two years, whose entrepreneurial outlook and vision for their business sets them apart from the crowd. Young Rising Star of the Year This category celebrates the entrepreneur aged 25 or under who has demonstrated the most impressive credentials in starting and growing an innovative business. Lifetime Achievement in Business Award This award recognises a business person whose culture and commercial principles are targeted at bringing a greater good and solving social challenges for the British Muslim communities in the last 20 years. NOMINATED AWARDS Islam Channel Chairman Award The recipient of this award will be selected by the chairman of Islam Channel, Mohamed Ali Harrath, and is not open for entries or nominations. There is no entry form for the Lifetime Achievement Award as this will be decided upon at the discretion of the judges. 09
