2 South East Dance Our Organisation South East Dance plays a national leadership role in the development of dance. We deliver an ambitious programme that encourages curiosity, discovery and risk-taking, supporting artists to create inspirational new work and empowering local communities to engage with dance. We are a registered charity, with an office base in Brighton. We work across South East England and beyond to get more people involved in and excited about dance. We receive core funding from Arts Council England and Brighton & Hove City Council. In addition we have received significant investment from The British Council, Interreg (European Funds) and a growing number of Trusts and Foundations including Esmee Fairburn Foundation, The Rayne Foundation, The Jerwood Charitable Trust and the Garfield Weston Foundation. Over the last 16 years SED has grown steadily. We now have an annual turnover of approximately 1million and employ 18 people in addition to providing work for an increasing bank of freelancers, apprentices and placements. We are currently preparing for the next stage in our development as we move towards creating The Dance Space, a new home for dance in the heart of Brighton and Hove. The Dance Space will be a purpose built choreographic and learning centre. It will provide a meeting point for exceptional artists and local communities facilitated through a dedicated and wide reaching professional and community engagement programme. 94% of funding to make The Dance Space a reality is confirmed. We are currently in the final design stage and on target to start construction in 2017 and opening our doors in 2019.

3 Artistically Led South East Dance - Our vision Curious? South East Dance wants to be at the heart of choreographic research and experimentation. We want to create a meeting point where people can develop, share and experience new approaches to dance and choreography. Research Focussed We want to encourage cultural curiosity, redefining perceptions of dance by promoting choreography as a form that can straddle a range of artistic disciplines. We will change the way people connect to art, creating greater opportunities for people to experience the process of making rather than just seeing the final product. Choreographic Sensibility South East Dance will support people who are committed to advancing the choreographic form - taking risks, experimenting in order to develop new choreographic languages that generate public intrigue. We want to work with creative people to inspire, invite and instil curiosity, investing in those who are committed to using dance and choreography to generate social and lasting change. 4 Job Description Job Title: Job Family: Responsible to: Hours: Holiday Entitlement: Contract: Notice period: Probationary Period: Assistant Producer - Participation Coordination Participation Producer Full time post (37 hours per week) 22 days per annum pro rata, plus 3 concessionary days to be taken as agreed between Christmas and New Year, plus Bank Holidays 12 months fixed term (with a possibility of extension subject to funding) Two months Three months Salary: 18, KEY EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS Brighton and Hove City Council, other south east local authorities, Oxfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group, Aesop, British Legion, Arts Council England, training and education providers, community and third sector organisations and charities, artists, companies, funders, project partners, stakeholders, community members of all ages from 0 upwards, other arts bodies, national and regional arts and related organisations, venues, programmers, sponsors. PURPOSE OF POST To work closely with the Participation Producer to deliver the coordination of South East Dance s artistic programme. ESSENTIAL DUTIES 1. To work at all times to deliver and represent the vision, mission, strategic aspirations and guiding principles of South East Dance as outlined in the business plan.

5 2. To work closely with the Participation Producer to support their project management and administrative needs 3. To coordinate key projects as directed, ensuring targets and activities are delivered to a high standard 4. To undertake research, manage budgets and write proposals and reports to a high standard. SPECIFIC TASKS Project Coordination 1. Project coordination as directed i.e. drafting and issuing contracts, liaising with artists, arts organisations, partners and companies, compiling information for the communications and development teams, filing, responding to s. Specifically to co-ordinate SED Evaluation and Monitoring, and to act as the lead contact for Three Score Dance Company, overseeing SED relationship and support to the company. 2. To support the SED programme team with evaluation, writing and reporting requirements in line with the needs of the funders and South East Dance. 3. To undertake and assist with research that supports projects and wider company activities. 4. To attend regional and national meetings and conferences, as appropriate and as directed. 5. To keep clear and consistent records relating to allocated projects. 6. To represent South East Dance and its work through presentations, articles, and presence at events and meetings. Legal 1. To contract and liaise with freelance artists and staff. 2. To carry out risk assessments and ensure standards of good practice are met, working to all legislation and company policy on equality, health and safety and safeguarding.

6 Marketing and communications 1 To represent South East Dance at conferences, meetings and other external events. 2 To liaise with Communications staff to create dynamic and relevant marketing materials, contribute to SED social and digital media and raise the profile of the programme and South East Dance. Line Management 1 To act as line manager for placements or interns as required. General 1 To support the Programming team to achieve its fundraising and raised income targets, and to be responsible for identifying opportunities to diversify income streams which contribute to South East Dance s overall fundraising target, in liaison with the Programme Director and Participation Producer. Any other duties as may from time to time be reasonably requested by the Line Manager, the Senior Management Team, or the Board. Person Specification Essential Proven track record of coordinating and delivering high quality participation and community arts/ dance activity Understanding of the support infrastructure for arts/dance within the UK Demonstrable commitment to grass roots dance development within community settings Evidence of project coordination skills or experience of project and event management: e.g. planning, scheduling, coordination of people, artists, delivery and evaluation

7 Commitment to equal opportunities and diversity Good computer skills: competence in Word, Excel, Outlook Good written and verbal communication skills Educated to degree or equivalent experience Excellent inter-personal skills: ability to relate to a wide group of people in a professional manner Awareness of and partiality to engaging with digital technologies to enhance project delivery and communications Competent at balancing a range of different demands Able and willing to occasionally work evenings and weekends and away from the office base as required Desirable Knowledge of the arts funding system in the UK Understanding of current dance practice within the UK Experience of teaching dance teacher or working as a professional artist
