2 Innovation Development and Transfer Initiative The purpose of the initiative is to make UNC the go to place to partner with innovative minds by creating supportive campus cultures that reward and incentivize translational efforts; valuing partnerships and consider them with strategy and holistic thinking; 2 doing tech transfer differently, in terms of practices that move innovations forward and out quickly while valuing individuals and partners involved.

5 Themes from Campus Visits Clear message needed purpose, expected outcomes, and targets known at all internal levels and externally It is more than patents, more than technology The intellectual property within UNC includes People Processes Tools Know-how Patents Copyright UNC faculty/staff/students in every field or discipline possess and create knowledge that, if and when transferred appropriately, has economic and/or social value. 5
6 Themes from Campus Visits Improve internal and external communications on process we are building a highway between the university and industry and need to put up the signage so that all can get where they want to go.
