1 Chapter NOVEMBER 3, 2017 COMPETITION AND ENTRY INFORMATION The NKBA Ohio State Chapter recognizes individuals across Northern Ohio who produce kitchens and baths that illustrate design quality and success in the marketplace. Open to all members who hold a good standing current membership with NKBA national. NKBA Ohio State salutes the individuals responsible for producing Northern Ohio s finest kitchens and baths.

2 ELIGIBILITY Projects submitted must be completed during the following time period: APRIL 1, 2015 MARCH 31, 2017 Award categories in 2017 include: KITCHEN CATEGORIES Small Kitchen: 150 sq. ft. less Best Before / After Kitchen Medium Kitchen: 151 sq. ft. 350 sq. ft Commercial Kitchen Large Kitchen: 351 sq. ft. more Outdoor Kitchen Best Overall Kitchen Innovative Kitchen BATHROOM CATEGORIES Powder Room: Sink and Toilet Only Best Before / After Bathroom Small Bathroom: 55 sq. ft. less Best Overall Bathroom Medium Bathroom: 56 sq. ft. 100 sq. ft. Commercial Bathroom Large Bathroom: 101 sq.ft. more Innovative Bathroom Master Suite: Bath, Closet, & Bedroom Custom Shower OTHER CATEGORIES Bar / Wine Room Kitchen & Bath Retail Showroom Art / Architectural Detail Supplier / Vendor Trade Showroom Product Specific Award (Platinum Sponsor) NOTE: Open plan kitchens should be entered into an appropriate kitchen category, based on sq. footage. While calculating sq. footage for kitchens, cook, prep and clean-up areas, family desk, casual built-in dining, island dining, and eat-in areas should be included where applicable. Master bathrooms should be entered into an appropriate bathroom category, based on sq. footage. While calculating sq. footage for bathrooms, water closet, vanity, and areas for bathing, shower, closet and dressing should be included where applicable.

3 COMPETITION GUIDELINES The individual entrant must be the Designer of Record on the project and must be an NKBA member. Non-members must join the NKBA to enter the competition. Codesigners are not required to be members of the NKBA. (Maximum of two co-designers). If the entrant is not the owner of the business that billed the project, owner approval is required for eligibility. The owner is not required to be a member of the NKBA. The project(s) submitted must have been installed between APRIL 1, 2015 and MARCH 31, Enter the project into the one Category that best represents your project. You may enter as many projects as you would like that fit into the any of the different categories. A new entry form is required for each project submitted and is to be completed in full. Each entry requires a separate fee. Entries must be received through Dropbox by AUGUST 1, Entry fee of $60 applies for each project submitted. Payment must be processed thru NKBA Ohio State website at Once payment is received, an invitation to upload files thru Dropbox will be sent via . All identifying design and firm information on floor plans, elevations, design statement and photographs should be blacked out. All required materials must be received in one submission thru Dropbox. PROJECT UPLOAD INSTRUCTIONS Visit to register for your submission(s) and process your payment. Set-up a free Dropbox account at You will receive an from NKBA Ohio State wanting to share a Dropbox folder with you AFTER submission registration and payment has been posted through If you have registered for multiple entries, you will receive a share request for each entry. Click on View Folder, it will then ask you to Accept. This is the folder where you will upload all of your files. When saving your files, please include your entry number in the file name, i.e. 123EntrantInformation, 123ProjectInformation, 123Floorplans, 123Photo1, 123Photo2, etc. Once you have all of your files saved, you can upload them to the folder by either dragging them in the folder or by clicking the Upload button at the top of the screen. 4 DEADLINES Registration and fees must be submitted online by JULY 14, Deadline for completed entry uploads through Dropbox is AUGUST 1, There will be no deadline extensions. Please upload your completed forms, photos and floor plans using the below instructions to the link e- mailed to you. Questions about the competition or entries should be directed to: Sean Carter: Kaleigh Cody: AWARDS AND WINNING RECOGNITION Winning entries will be analyzed by a panel of leading industry experts. Each expert selected to judge is either a Certified Master Kitchen & Bath Designer (CMKBD ) or both a Certified Kitchen Designer (CKD ) and a Certified Bath Designer (CBD ). Judges are not eligible to enter the competition in the year of their service. Judges adhere to the NKBA Kitchen & Bath Planning Guidelines with Access Standards when scoring entries. Each entry will be judged on its own merits. Awards are to be made for ONE (1) first place winner in each of the 10 categories. The decisions of the judges are final. The competition entries will be scored on the following five core areas: Safety & Ergonomics Elements & Principles of Design Design Planning Creativity Presentation Award winning entries will be featured in the Fall Newsletter of NKBA Ohio State, as well as on the NKBA Ohio State Website. All award winners will be recognized with an award. NKBA Ohio State will notify media outlets of the award winners. In order for all entries to be publicized, an Client / Designer Photo Agreement will need to be processed with your submission documentation.

5 CREATE WINNING ENTRIES Included are your entry materials for the NKBA Ohio State Chapter If you are submitting for more than one award, you MUST fill out a separate packet for EACH award you re submitting for. Entry materials are: ENTRANT FORM FOR SUBMISSION SHEET (enclosed) PROJECT INFORMATION SHEET (enclosed) PROJECT STATEMENT (enclosed) DRAWINGS AND PLANS: Floor plans and Elevations are required for all entries. Submit floor plans, elevations, and any other drawings appropriate to the category. The name of the contractor, builder and/or designer must be blacked out on all drawings and plans. PHOTOGRAPHS: 2 (MIN) 4 (MAX) at 300dpi COLOR photographs of the entry must be submitted. Interior photographs should depict living spaces and discretionary interior photos. The name of the contractor, builder and/or designer must be blacked out on all drawings and plans. If you are submitting for the Best Before / After Kitchen award and/or the Best Before / After Bathroom award, please include before photos that are clearly labeled individually as BEFORE and AFTER. NOTE: When choosing photographs to submit, understand that the quality of the photography is very important. Please submit photography suitable for judging. Photos should illustrate the design features described in the project statement. IMPORTANT: The names of the builder, developer, designer, interior designer, architect and/or land planner should appear only on the Entrant Information form. Any mention of individual or company names on any part of the entry will disqualify the entry. 11 PROJECT STATEMENT Explain your project in a descriptive, word statement that outlines client needs and objectives, design philosophy, challenges, solutions, and special features. Using the references below, create a brief overview of your project. Objectives Outlined criteria to be met by your design solution.
