1 KEEP it GOING BINGHAMTON UNIVERSITY FOUNDATION ANNUAL REPORT
2 The Binghamton University Foundation: Partnering with you to advance Binghamton University TOGETHER WE RE BETTER Steven H. Bloom, left, and Harvey G. Stenger at the Koffman Southern Tier Incubator THANK YOU. Last year, we issued you a challenge to show your pride in Binghamton University by giving back. Your response? Amazing. Gift income to the Binghamton University Foundation has nearly doubled in the past fiscal year, totaling $17.9 million as of June 30, compared to $9.3 million the same time a year ago, as more donors have joined in to support our students, faculty, programs and entire campus. We appreciate everyone who stepped up and gave generously to support all that makes Binghamton a preeminent public university. Working together, our supporters are helping us achieve great things. The University and Foundation remain strong partners, connecting donors philanthropic interests with strategic priorities to advance our achievement, impact and growth in such key areas as high-impact learning experiences for students, faculty excellence, facility enhancements and critical annual support for the University s greatest needs and school-specific initiatives and programs. We are ecstatic that in the past fiscal year, multiple donors have made gifts of $1 million or more to advance Binghamton. Their gifts are being used to support students, faculty and facilities. In addition, the Binghamton Fund, our annual giving program, had a record-breaking year as donors, making gifts of all sizes, increased their total support. Binghamton Fund gifts are important because they give our deans and other campus leaders flexibility and resources to take advantage of strategic, University-enhancing opportunities as they arise. Donors also are getting involved in our special giving events, such as the Athletics Alumni Giving Challenge, now in its second year. In these initiatives, the focus is on participation, with the support going to specific groups or programs on campus. What does this all mean? Our University is better and stronger than ever, thanks to what donors make possible. Let s keep it going. We look forward to sharing with you next year how your giving is making a difference! Steven H. Bloom 78, LHD 10 Chair, Binghamton University Foundation Board of Directors Harvey G. Stenger President, Binghamton University 2 #BingPride

4 At Binghamton, even firstyear students can collaborate with faculty to conduct path-breaking research. Our Freshman Research Immersion (FRI) program gives students studying science, technology, engineering or mathematics opportunities to tackle global issues in areas such as smart energy, climate change, neurodegenerative diseases and more. FRI is the only initiative of its kind in the Northeast and just one of four such programs in the U.S. Research immersion HIGH-IMPACT LEARNING EXPERIENCES The world is our students classroom when they participate in our education-abroad programs, which enable students to immerse themselves in different cultures and countries, develop their foreign-language skills, gain new perspectives and expand their global outlook. Education abroad Hands-on internships Our students gain real-world, outside-the-classroom experience from meaningful internship opportunities in a variety of fields. Internships enhance the educational experience and create more marketable and prepared students, whether they plan to pursue advanced education or successful careers. 4 #BingPride
5 DONORS MAKE A GREAT EDUCATION POSSIBLE Our faculty strengthen Binghamton s excellence in knowledge, research, innovation and collaboration, while motivating students and fostering their ability to pursue their passions. The new Koffman Southern Tier Incubator in downtown Binghamton, an affiliate of the Binghamton University Foundation, also expands our impact in the region as we work with business startups and community partners to aid in economic revitalization efforts.
