Instructions: Proposal Transmittal Form Instructions (PTF) The PTF is designed to be compatible with ARGIS (On-line proposal tracking system). This form should be submitted (1) if a Principal Investigator intends to obtain original signatures; (2) if someone other than the PI or Co-PI is filling out the ARGIS entry on-line. This completed form will help the Proposal Manager (PM) in Office of Research & Commercialization (ORC) or a unit representative complete ARGIS accurately. Please fill out the PTF completely. If you have questions, please feel free to contact your PM in the Office of Research and Commercialization. F I P D R Fellowship: An award made on behalf of an individual to support specific training that will enhance that individual's level of competence in a particular area of concern. Under certain programs, fellowship recipients may be subject to service and payback requirements. Instruction: Includes those actions, endeavors, services, and aids which permit knowledge, experience, expertise, skill, and training to be acquired and accumulated by departmental research and transmitted by instruction. Instruction includes regular terms, summer terms, extension and informal education. Public Services: Includes services which are not exclusively instructional or research provided primarily, but not necessarily, for persons external to the institution. Example: Community Services, (includes community counseling and consulting, advisory and reference services, and community projects). Directed Donation: A contribution for use as directed by the donor for which no commitment of University resources or services is required. The contribution requires no formal work product, purchase of services, or exchange of exclusive information. Applied Research: Within the Federal, university, and nonprofit sectors, applied research is defined as research directed toward gaining "knowledge or understanding necessary for determining the means by which a recognized and specific need may be met." The applied research definition for the industry sector is modified to include "research projects which represent investigations directed to discovery of new scientific knowledge and which may have commercial objectives with respect to either products or processes." 2 B G Section G: Section H: Section I: Section J: Section K: Section L: Section M: Section N: Section O: Section P: Section Q: Section R: Section S: Basic Research: Within the Federal, university, and nonprofit sectors, basic research is defined as research directed toward increases in knowledge or understanding of the fundamental aspects of phenomena and of observable facts without specific application toward processes or products in mind. For the industry sector, basic research projects are defined as "original investigations for the advancement of scientific knowledge which do not have specific commercial objectives, although they may be in fields of present or potential interest to the reporting company." Training: Includes support costs to provide training activities to students, personnel, or prospective employees in research or in the techniques or practices pertinent to the delivery of services in a particular area of concern. Please enmter the project strat and end dates. Project Title - The project title should be the same title as indicated on the proposal. Project Description - Please provide a one or two sentence description of your project. Proposal Solicitation/Announcement Number - Please provide the exact solicitation number. Sponsoring Agency - Please provide the complete name, address, point of contact (if any), and phone number. Special Considerations - This information is required to be completed. Please do not skip over this without checking "yes" or "no" on each item. Some of these items address compliance issues that may require additional paperwork, notifications, and/or reminders. Self-explanatory Self-explanatory Conflict of Interest - Self-explanatory Investigators, Project Credit Split, Facilties and Administrative (F&A) Split (formerly indirect costs) and full time equivalent (FTE) percentage of effort. This section is very important as some investigators have more than one department. The credit split refers to how much of the project credit (out of 100%) is attributed to the PI and each Co-PI. F&A split refers to how much of the collectible indirect costs will go to each College, Institute, Center, etc., if awarded. This is usually for multi-discliplinary proposals. The FTE percent of effort refers to the annual time spent on a project. ORC is required to track faculty and staff time commitmnets whether devoted to research, teaching, and/or administrative responsibilities. This time commitment cannot exceed 1.0 FTE per annum. UCF Cost Share/Matching Commitment - Cost sharing must be signed off prior to proposal submission. Please indicate the amount of the cost share and account number(s) from which these funds will be drawn. It is also important to provide budget details for the cost share on the same budget page or in a similar format. Approvals - Please read the language in front of the signatures before signing. If this project has more than 5 Co-PIs, please print a second PTF page 2 and obtain the additional signatures.
