1 Administrative Bulletin IX ENTREPRENEUR INITIATIVE During the week of November 6 th, Junior Achievement of Northern Indiana will be inspiring high school students with the 100+ Entrepreneur Initiative. This initiative, designed to coincide with National Entrepreneurship Month, puts entrepreneurs into classrooms throughout our community to share what inspired them to start their own businesses and to open students eyes to the opportunities provided by entrepreneurship. We are opening this exciting 1-day/40 minute program to teachers who do not normally host JA volunteers and invite you to participate. If anyone at your school is interested in learning more or hosting an entrepreneur please contact Jenee Johnson via at jenee.johnson@ja.org. Marilyn Hissong, ext SPECIAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT NEWSLETTER Enclosure #1 is details regarding the happenings and important information from the Special Education Department. 3 Our Mission: To improve student outcomes. Compliance: Just a reminder to use the new transportation procedures and card presented at the September in-service. The transportation card is now uploaded on Canvas so teachers can use it electronically. As the first quarter comes to an end, remember to update and send out progress monitoring data. GOAL SAMPLES During a 15 minute observation, the student will follow a set of multi-step directions with no more than 2 prompts in two out of three trials. Using a calendar on the ipad, the student will set reminders and due dates for all major assignments at least one week in advance on three out of four weeks per month JjkcGufRf7oSQ0TzRu8Z_e9mxm5Y2HiILY/edit?ts= 59d /6/17 SEPTEMBER S AWESOME OUTCOME WINNER IS DENISE SHAWVER Contact Special Education Department to claim your prize AWESOME OUTCOMES Our IREACH program was recognized at the September 19 th school board for their work during the transition from Park Hill to the Annex! Andrea Brooks and Sue Wuest will be speaking at a Ball State evening special education class about their classroom practices. Woodlan Elementary mild interventions team developed spreadsheets to track progress monitoring data and use of student accommodations. (Find these documents in our Canvas group.) Contact Jackie Davis & Angie Baughman with any questions. Jessica Tinkle at PCA led her students through a Donor s Choice project. They developed a proposal and were awarded funding to purchase flexible seating for the classroom! (see picture below) PD Opportunities: Online Modules IEP Open Labs 10/24 We have a library full of resources on a large variety of topics. Cassie and Lindsey worked to organize these resources into a Google Doc. The link is below. We encourage you to review what resources we have available. Follow directions on the Google Doc for requesting materials. /1tll_DKBvvJjkcGufRf7oSQ0TzRu8Z_e9 mxm5y2hiily/edit?ts=59d79535 Transition Tip: Reminder goals must be based on skills. Homework completion and passing classes are not skills. Think about what skill is keeping the student from completing homework? (See the Goal box for two measurable goal examples.) Included in the Goal Sample box is a link to a Google doc where you can ask questions and get feedback regarding draft goals. You can also view goals other teachers have written and see their feedback. Remember to send Jen Hartman names of students as you hold transition ACR s so she can review for compliance. ASD Team Our ASD team met last month and refocused our discussion for WHY we collaborate as a district team. Those reasons are below: To help students, parents, and staff navigate services and programs that will help address the unique abilities associated with ASD To advocate for increased inclusion of students with ASD as well as enhance school and community awareness of their contributions, including both their abilities and disabilities QUOTE: Education is the most POWERFUL weapon which you can use to change the world Nelson Mandela
