Vancouver Public Schools Student Chest Drive Together we can create opportunities to cultivate and inspire student success! AGENCIES THE CAMPAIGN SUPPORTS

Foundation for Vancouver Public Schools Established in 1988, the Foundation directs funds and services to programs and projects where educational funding is not available. Donations are the major funding source for meeting their mission of enriching the lives and learning opportunities of all who attend Vancouver Public Schools with a primary focus on providing unmet basic necessities to our students. Foundation programs include A checkbook in every school to purchase the emergent needs of students. Urgent medical, dental and vision care expenses for uninsured students Assistance for students and families experiencing a catastrophic event in their lives. Financial assistance for 18 Family Community Resources Centers located in our highest need schools and one mobile unit. Sports and Activity fees vouchers for middle and high school students. Quality mentoring programs like Lunch Buddies and Girls Inc. Support for Kindergarten Jump Start and other early learning activities that have significantly improved reading readiness for our youngest learners. Since 1988, provided over $1.2 million dollars in grant awards that have inspired creative learning for students across the district United Way of the Columbia-Willamette Funding programs across the four-county metro area, United Way of the Columbia-Willamette is addressing issues related to education, health, and poverty. United Way also provides funding to support diversity, volunteerism and capacity development for non-profit organizations, along with 211info referral call center. STEPS TO A SUCCESSFUL CAMPAIGN

Before the Campaign. Make a campaign promotion plan. Think about ways to make the campaign fun and what gets kids excited. Create a sense of friendly competition. Establish a timeline for activities. The official campaign window is November You are welcome to run your campaign one or two weeks. Involve your parent association, booster club, and/or businesses in your area by asking them to donate items that can be used as incentives that will increase participation or ask them to match what a classroom or your school raises. Give the campaign bulletin insert to your school newsletter creator ASAP. Include a link to the campaign webpage: Decide on how you will communicate campaign info to your student body. Review your school s giving history and set your 2017 goal. Consider providing an award to the classroom that contributes the most. Design a bulletin board to keep the campaign top of mind for students. Write out campaign instructions for teachers. Include details of each campaign event, your campaign goal and promote what they can win if you are providing incentives to individuals or classrooms. During the Campaign. PROMOTE and MONITOR progress throughout the entire campaign. Keep a running total as contributions are collected and post results where everyone can see them. Routinely remind students how close they are to reaching the goal. Talk about the agency(s) that will be the recipient of the contributions collected during the campaign. Share with students that EVERY gift is appreciated and makes a difference, no matter the size. Hang campaign posters around school. Send home the Student Campaign brochure (ES only.) Show the Foundation for VPS video (optional view first to determine whether appropriate to show your students): ON Elementaries: "2017 Staff Campaign Video - Elementary Schools" Secondary schools: "2017 Staff Campaign Video - Secondary Schools" Report final totals and thank everyone for making the campaign a success whether you reached your goal or not. MAKE IT FUN!

Themes, activities, games and incentives are your opportunity to add a little something extra to your campaign. Not only can they raise additional money, they can be instrumental in team development, creating excitement and educating about the Foundation for VPS and United Way. Let your imaginations run wild, or use some of the following ideas to make your campaign memorable, exciting and successful. INCORPORATING THEMES, INCENTIVES, ACTIVITIES & GAMES Educates students and parents Builds morale Brings students together Can be budget friendly Builds excitement Promotes the Foundation for VPS campaign Energizes individuals Encourages first time givers and pledge increases THEMES: Join the Journey (main) Education is a journey; Oh, the places you ll go; Learning is about the journey AND the destination; Adventure Awaits; Destination graduation; Help students navigate beyond barriers Theme related ideas: Create a thermometer type chart depicting a famous world building. As money is raised, mark it on the building until your goal is reached. Use maps for a craft project Have students or staff film a video or perform a skit. Each person plays a part. Students who bring in donations, get to nominate which teacher gets to star in a silly role. Host a family game night (travel themed bingo) or dinner event. Have a suggested donation to benefit Foundation for VPS. Have students create an infographic map, plotting some barriers to learning along with solutions to get around the barriers Loose change drive/mile of coins: Host a loose change campaign. You can even challenge your school to a Miles of Coins fundraiser. For elementary or middle schools, estimate how many coins it would take to reach the middle or high school your students will attend. Challenge students to bring in more donations than staff members. Ask a local restaurant to place a money jar at the front of the restaurant Check with the restaurant manager. They may be willing to place the jar in a high traffic area so lots of patrons can see it. CAMPAIGN INSTRUCTIONS

Keep all funds locked in your school safe until you deposit them in the bank. Bank deposits should be made ONCE EACH WEEK of the two week campaign regardless of the amount of money collected. Dual control is REQUIRED. TWO (2) STAFF MEMBERS need to be present when counting money. All money must be deposited on or before Tuesday, November 21, TO MAKE A BANK DEPOSIT Take the account number with you to make a deposit. STUDENT CHEST CAMPAIGN# Two (2) staff members are required to transport funds. Students are NOT allowed to transport. Deposit funds at any of the following Columbia Credit Union locations. Riverstone Fourth Plain Washougal Downtown 3501 SE 192nd Ave 3003 NE 62nd Ave 271 C Street 703 Broadway St. Salmon Creek Orchards Ridgefield Grand Central A N.E. Hwy NE Fourth Plain 109 S 65th Ave 108 S Grand Blvd. Hazel Dell Battle Ground Cascade Park East Ridge 808 NE 98th Circle 401 NW 12th Ave. 210 SE 131 st Ave NE 99 th St. You do not have to count coins prior to making a deposit, unless you choose to do so. CCU will run coins through their machine and provide you with the total. CCU will provide you with a deposit receipt. Be sure to make a copy of the receipt to keep for your records. DEPOSIT SUMMARY FORM The DEPOSIT SUMMARY FORM verifies when and where a deposit was made and designates the amounts your school is contributing to each of the agencies. Complete a SUMMARY FORM for EACH deposit you make. Be sure to fill out the form completely. The names and signatures of the TWO staff members who counted the funds and those who transported them to the bank are required. List the dollar amount that your student leadership group has designated to each of the organizations; the Foundation for VPS and/or the United Way of the Columbia Willamette. The total of these two amounts must equal 100% of the funds deposited. Staple the original deposit slip to the SUMMARY FORM and send interoffice to Mary FVPS / JPCC. Keep a copy for your records. The SUMMARY FORM with the deposit slip attached must be received in the Foundation office within 3 days of making EACH deposit.

2017 Awards and Incentives Budget $50 per school What you purchase, and how you award it, is up to you!

Leadership Challenge If your campaign leadership team raises the most money, per capita (based on student count), for the Foundation, the group wins an on-site party! A total of three parties will be awarded. One (1) to the ELEMENTARY leadership group that raises the most per capita, one (1) to the MIDDLE SCHOOL leadership group that raises the most per capita, and one (1) to the HIGH SCHOOL group that raises the most per capita.
