International participation Applicants from non-eu countries are eligible to take part in Horizon 2020 programmes even if the call for proposals or topic text do

They are not always automatically entitled to funding. All proposals must meet certain minimum conditions (Rules for Participation). 11

19 Challenge 6, Call 4: Europe as a global actor (2014/2015) BILATERAL INT /2015: Enhancing & focussing R&I cooperation with the Union's key international partners: Specific Challenge: get best value out of EU's cooperation with key int. partners; generate more impact by enhancing focusing int. cooperation Scope: support objectives of EU int. cooperation strategy in research innovation (support policy dialogue on identification of areas for targeted int. cooperation, implement joint activities, encourage cooperation, work on framework conditions, analyse cooperation patterns) Impact: contribute to more strategic priority setting for int. cooperation across Horizon 2020; promote interaction of EU non-eu researchers; optimal framework for int. cooperation; synergies with calls between policies of Member/Associated Countries int. partners EU contribution: EUR 1.95 million for 3 years (USA, China, Brazil, Russia); EUR 1 million for 3 years (Australia, Ukraine, South Africa); other amounts possible. 19

21 International cooperation projects Inco-net EaP Supporting policy dialogue with the EaP countries, thematic focus - climate change, energy health. MedSpring/ERANETMED MEDSPRING (the Mediterranean Science, Policy, Research Gateway - promotes better dialogue between the EU the Southern Med region on research innovation, thematic focus - water, food energy. ERANETMED - reducing fragmentation of programming in the Mediterranean region by increasing coordination among national research programmes of EU MS, Associated Countries Southern Med countries through innovation competitive research in the societal challenges of the region (energy, water food, health, marine environment, crosscutting issues). R2I cluster - 13 R2I projects cluster, bridging the gap between research innovation, covering EU Neighbourhood East South BS-ERANET - linking research activities within existing national, bilateral regional RTD programmes, Joint Call, EUR 21
