1 2018 PROJECT FIBONACCI STEAM CONFERENCE SUBJ: Request for 2018 Project Fibonacci STEAM Conference Sponsorship & Community Support January 8, 2018 Dear Business Owner and Friend: Thanks to the support of community members, our 2017 Project Fibonacci STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) Conference held this past summer in Rome was a tremendous success! We are now moving ahead with plans for 2018, but we need your financial support to make this another successful event. What is the Project Fibonacci STEAM Conference? It is the brain child of ANDRO Computational Solutions, LLC, in cooperation with local schools, businesses and non-profit agencies. This remarkable opportunity provides students with unparalleled, content rich, workshops and off-site tours, along with personal access to some of the best and brightest minds in various STEAM fields. Students are taught using a classical, Renaissance approach to learning, embracing multiple disciplines, their relationships and the role of mathematics that permeates throughout. Why math? Because it is the common denominator in the sciences and arts and our youth are losing ground when it comes to competing on the world stage in science, math and reading scores. We need to change things to make them more challenging, interesting and relevant for our youth and their career choices. Why is the conference important to our youth and the economy? Our goal is to help reverse the declining trends in math, science and reading scores nationwide and to ensure our youth are more competitive internationally in STEAM. Our program promotes entrepreneurial pursuits for new small business start-ups in our area as well as insights into internship opportunities, all in an effort to rebuild our local population and economy, and to support workforce development in various STEAM fields. We cover it all as a form of alternative education that complements and reinforces our many other STEM, Excellence in Innovation, Beyond the Box, and other highly worthy programs in our area. Our objective is to promote the next waves of young scholars and productive citizens by positively motivating, enlightening and enabling our youth to deal more effectively with the challenges of our ever-increasing complex and diverse world. The realization that success can occur in our own back yard is a substantial objective in our effort. What s new in 2018? Our inaugural conference in August 2016 was a huge success (for more information visit our website, and review our past events). In 2017, we expanded beyond the conference itself to include a Project Fibonacci Women & STEAM on January 20th with best-selling author, Margot Lee Shetterly whose book Hidden Figures was released in theaters nationwide on January 6, We have been continuing and expanding our Women & STEAM series with keynote events by Mechanical Engineer, Musician, Author and Cohost of The History Channels, Decoded, Christine McKinley and physicist and host of Outrageous Acts of Science Dr. Deborah Berebichez. All of these events lead up to our STEAM Conference, from July at the Beeches Conference Center in Rome and surrounding venues. Additionally, we have established the Project Fibonacci Foundation, Inc., a 501c3 non-profit corporation in cooperation with The Community Foundation of Herkimer & Oneida Counties and are on schedule to receiving our own 501c3 designation in 2018! Monies received from organizations such as yours helped many local, underserved and at-risk youths attend our previous conferences.
