1 e 3 = earth education economics June 11-12, 2013 School of Business, MacEwan University Edmonton, Alberta 1 st PRME Canada Regional Meeting Call for Papers The world has reached a tipping point and a new business model, focused on the triple bottom line (planet, people and profits), is rapidly emerging. A clear sign of change is the growing number of businesses that have subscribed to the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) initiative. These businesses are committed to practices that are bound by the ten UNGC principles, which include guaranteeing human and labor rights, protecting the environment and adopting concrete measures to avoid corruption. Similarly, business schools around the world have signed onto the Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME), a United Nations initiative that is intended to promote responsible management education based on the same principles as the UNGC. The main objective of PRME is to transform business students into responsible global leaders capable of creatively shaping the business landscape of the 21 st century. This call for papers asks the following question: How can business schools develop future leaders that support, promote and incorporate the PRME principles into the mainstream business model? The theme of the conference emphasizes the need for integration e 3 = earth, education, economics, with education being the critical factor in the equation.

2 MacEwan School of Business is hosting the 1 st PRME Canada Regional Meeting, coconvened by the University of Guelph College of Management & Economics and the John Molson School of Business at Concordia University, with the objective of creating a forum for business academics to share their experiences in teaching and research on the integration of the PRME principles into the curricula and scholarship of business schools. We invite submissions of empirical and conceptual papers, cases and teaching best practices in the following topics (but not limited to): Earthonomics as a new framework for management research and practice Social return Triple bottom line How to incorporate PRME into firm strategy? What do our students value and how can firms change to attract and retain this new generation and become an employer of choice? Responsible leadership Sustainability and sustainable business practices Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Corporate governance Gender diversity (i.e. at the Board of Directors) Human equality Business ethics Ethical marketing Ethical supply chain management (ethical implications of outsourcing decisions, etc.) Conference The conference will begin with a welcome dinner/reception on Tuesday June 11, 2013, with the main day of conference activities taking place on Wednesday June 12, The 1st PRME Canada Regional Meeting will be hosted by MacEwan University in Edmonton, Alberta. Registration will open Feb 19, 2013 and can be accessed via the conference website at: Registration is open to anyone, including students, professors, academics, nonacademics, and business professionals. Attendees are not required to submit scholarly work; however, they are strongly encouraged to do so. Our school is offering students (undergraduate, graduate, and post-doctoral students) a scholarship to cover the expenses of the conference and accommodations. More information about the conference, accommodations and the City of Edmonton can be found on the conference website.

3 Submission Guidelines The conference is divided into four tracks: research papers, business case presentations, teaching best practices presentations, and undergraduate papers. All accepted submissions will have their extended abstract included in the conference proceedings. There are additional and unique requirements for each of the four tracks, this specific information is detailed below: 1) Research paper track Authors interested in presenting a research paper at the conference are required to submit an extended abstract (500 to 1000 words, Times New Roman 12-point font, double-spaced) by February 28, 2013 to e3@macewan.ca. Authors may choose to submit their full papers in lieu of an abstract at this deadline. Full papers (approx words) must be submitted by April 15, Please include your contact information with your submission. Notification of acceptance into the conference will be given by March 15, 2013, based on the extended abstract or early full paper submission. Extended abstracts of all papers will be included in the conference proceedings. Authors of the best research paper submissions will be eligible for publication in the International Journal of Business Governance and Ethics (IJBGE). The due date for this final draft is April 15, Please send submissions to e3@macewan.ca. 2) Business case track Authors interesting in presenting a business case will be required to submit an extended abstract (500 to 1000 words, Times New Roman 12-point font, double-spaced) along with their presentation slides by April 15, 2013* to e3@macewan.ca. Please include your contact information with your submission. Submissions from business professionals are strongly encouraged. Notification of acceptance into the conference will be given by April 30, *Optional: authors may submit early, by February 28, 2013 to e3@macewan.ca, and will receive notification of their acceptance by March 15, The extended abstract will be included in the conference proceedings.

4 3) Teaching best practices track Authors interested in presenting about their incorporation of PRME principles into their teaching are required to submit an extended abstract (500 to 1000 words, Times New Roman 12-point font, double spaced) along with their presentation slides by April 15, 2013* to Please include your contact information with your submission.
