4 THE DETAILS WHAT, WHEN, WHO, WHY? WHAT: Innes48 is the largest of its kind in New Zealand, it provides participants with an excellent training ground to build entrepreneurial teams and helps expand their professional networks and create valuable business connections. Named after Mary Jane Innes, one of Hamilton's pioneering female entrepreneurs, the Innes48 Business Startup Competition is for entrepreneurial teams to design a business within just 48 hours. The competition takes place at the Wintec Atrium in Central Hamilton over one exciting and action packed weekend. Starting on Friday afternoon and ending on Sunday evening, the teams will first hear from inspirational speakers about their successes, failures and learnings as an entrepreneur. Up to 15 teams will then have 48 hours to innovate and create a business. At the end of the competition the teams will pitch their newly created business ideas to a panel of judges and an audience of 300 people. These judges will select a winner for each category - Most Viable Business, Most Innovative and Best Pitch. In 2016, the highly energetic event attracted over 22 team applications, with only the top 15 teams chosen to compete for $12,000 of cash prizes. The competition now provides a follow-on opportunity where participants can apply for a fully funded SODA incubation programme winners Dose Direct successfully completed their programme with Business Growth Advisor Melissa Clark-Reynolds. The opening and closing ceremonies are packed to capacity with contestants, investors, sponsors, mentors, judges and Waikato business community leaders. 7 WHERE S THE MONEY GOING? HOW WILL IT BE SPENT? 20% PRIZES 50% OPEX INNES SPEND 30% INNES48 LIFT PROGRAMME 20% of the cash will be distributed by judges on the night to the winning teams as cash prize money. 30% will be put towards the Innes48 LIFT Programme for Innes48 participants following the competition. This fund can be used by them to assist with business expenses such as, legal, accounting and other business services. 50% will be used for competition operating costs and expenditures in order to ensure the smooth and successful delivery of Innes This experience has been once in a lifetime.
