Carol Kellogg was awarded in memoriam, the Coaches Hall of Fame Award: At the Middle-Level Forensic Associations State Tournament this year, Cabrini's own Carol Kellogg was awarded, in memoriam, the Coaches Hall of Fame Award. This award is dedicated to coaches for their outstanding service to Middle School Forensics. In her first year of teaching, Carol was asked to coach Forensics, and she declined, saying she wasn t really into sports. Needless to say, she learned a lot since then. She coached in

3 the public schools for 30 years and then began coaching at Cabrini over ten years ago when her daughter started Middle School here. Carol was proud of the long and strong tradition West Bend has in Middle School Forensics. West Bend Schools, and Carol Kellogg, were instrumental in starting Wisconsin s Middle School Forensics organization, the MLFA. It stemmed from an effort to build up the activity in other schools in the region, to establish standards, and to help raise the level of competition. Carol was passionate about Forensics because she thought it was so good for the kids. When asked to list the benefits, she had stated "it helps kids with self-confidence, it gives them experience working as a team, and it requires creativity and getting comfortable speaking in front of an audience. It helps kids discover a new side of themselves. According to Carol, Kids often start out thinking they can t do this, and then they realize that they can. Sadly, we lost Carol this past May and she is greatly missed. She was dedicated to all of her forensic students over the years and to St. Frances Cabrini. We truly lost a treasure and were extremely proud to accept the Middle-Level Forensic Coaches Hall of Fame Award on behalf of Carol, her daughter Molly and her family. The SFC Chess Club will be participating in the Wisconsin Grade Level Championships at UW Milwaukee on April 21 st. If you are interested in registering your child for the tournament, it is highly recommended you register online prior to the tournament to avoid extra fees. Go to in the tournaments section to register. Registration is $25 if done online by April 5 th, $30 by April 12 th and $40 onsite. Coach Cassie Erato will be attending the event. Please plan on attending with your child. The tournament runs from 830 am registration to awards at 4 pm.

4 For those attending the chess tournament and are interested getting extra practice, Coach Nick Shera will be available from 3-4 on Thursday April 5th and April 19th for additional practice or to answer any questions you may have. For those entering K5-5th grade Monday, July 30 Tuesday, July 31st Wednesday, August 1st Saint Mary s Immaculate Conception Parish A Radical Ride on the Wings of Prayer Watch future newsletters and the website for details The Fifth Grade Girl Scout troop 6237 of SFC in addition to viewing the Honor Flight Movie in class and writing letters to the veterans are going attend a Homecoming in Milwaukee this spring to pass out cookies to the veterans as they come home. So far they have 93 boxes of cookies to pass out and have a goal of 300 boxes. Our deadline for purchasing cookies is Friday, March 30. Cookies are $4.00 a box, and the troop will be collecting donations of any denomination to put toward our goal of 300 boxes of

6 cookies. Pledges can be made by to This is a tax deductible donation. The girls will be collecting the pledges from April 3-6 in care of the fifth grade classroom and pass out thank you donation forms in return. Thank you for helping us reach our goal of 300 boxes for the veterans. We will update everyone with how we did with our goal, the final date we decide to attend and invite everyone to join us and help pass out cookies and welcome our veterans home. Piano Lessons - Piano instructor, Lori Schneider, is currently accepting new student and continuing student registrations for piano lessons this summer. Summer lessons will be held in her home studio. There are options for flexible summer scheduling including a choice of 6 or 8 lessons. Summer lessons are a great way to find out what piano lessons are all about. Summer students are guaranteed placement in the studio for the next school year should they choose to continue lessons.
