The Learfield Sports Directors Cup was developed as a joint effort between NACDA and USA Today to recognize universities that excel in a variety of men s and women s athletics programs. In 2017 DU finished ranked 35th in the Directors Cup standings among all Division I institutions. This is the best national ranking in the Directors Cup standings in the Division s history. The University of Denver has a proud tradition of comprehensive excellence across the entire Division of Athletics and Recreation. Financial support from our Pioneer Movement donors continues to be the lifeblood of the success of Denver Athletics. Thanks to another record-breaking year from our generous donors in , our student-athletes had a monumental year in competition and in the classroom, highlighted by: Hockey NCAA Champions (8th National Championship for the program and 32nd overall for DU) Men s Soccer NCAA College Cup appearance Gymnastics NCAA semi-finals appearance Men s Lacrosse NCAA Championship Weekend appearance Skiing NCAA finals appearance 10 Conference Championships 9 programs with a perfect APR scores (Academic Progress Rate) 102 Hornbeck Scholars (4.0 GPA), 161 student on the Dean s List, 2 NCAA Post graduate scholarships Looking ahead to the academic year, we are joyous about a truly special year for the University as we celebrate 150 Years of DU Athletics. What a wonderful opportunity to reflect on our rich history and tradition of excellence. As we celebrate our proud history throughout the year, I hope you will consider making an investment in the lives of our student-athletes by making a contribution to the Pioneer Movement. As you consider your gift please know that every donor and every dollar makes an impact on our student-athletes. On behalf of everyone at the University of Denver, thank you for your unwavering support. We look forward to celebrating 150 Years of DU Athletics with you throughout the year. Proud to be a Pioneer, Peg Bradley-Doppes Vice Chancellor for Athletics and Recreation

3 Sam Hamilton graduated from the University of Denver in the spring of 2017 with a degree in Accounting. Weeks prior to graduation Sam was a First Round Pick in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft, selected by the Colorado Rapids. As a four year letter winner and captain during his junior and senior seasons, Sam led the Pioneers to two straight undefeated regular seasons in 2015 and Sam also earned CoSIDA Academic All-American honors and Summit League Male Scholar Athlete of the Year in Below, Hamilton shares some insights on why donor support was key to his success as a student-athlete. Attending the University of Denver was a dream come true. After one visit to campus, I knew that DU was the place for me. It was clear that the coaching staff, professors, and supporting mentors would each provide me with foundations for success. I couldn t believe how much staff members cared about each studentathlete. Everyone put education first, which I knew would make my experience extremely valuable. I had all the resources I needed to perform in the classroom and on the field. As a Colorado native, I dreamed of staying in-state and playing college soccer. I was a late bloomer as a soccer player, making it difficult to receive financial support from the University. After a great deal of hard work and determination my freshman year, I was awarded an athletic scholarship that gave my family and I the financial support to fulfill my dream of playing soccer at DU. Without donor support, none of this would have been possible. Looking back on my time at DU, my student-athlete experience was priceless. I was lucky enough to captain the Men s Soccer team to its first College Cup appearance and back-to-back undefeated regular seasons. Thanks to those that financially supported our program, we had the opportunity to participate in world-class leadership workshops. In these workshops, we learned about our own specific leadership style. Then, we applied what we learned on the field. We held each other accountable, believed in one another, and were resilient. We led ourselves first, and spoke to each other as men. I believe that is the greatest gift the donors gave me; the opportunity to be a part of a pure culture, surrounded by people who truly care about one another. I m beyond thankful for all the things I learned at DU, but most importantly I m thankful for the people that were a part of my journey. I will cherish the memories I created for the rest of my life and I will be forever grateful for my experience. 32 NATIONAL championships 118 INDIVIDUAL NCAA championships 100 CONFERENCE championships 61 OLYMPIANS DUPioneerMovement.com Page 1

5 One Day for DU returns in Spring 2018! One Day for DU is a campus-wide initiative where we ask the entire DU community to come together and show their support by making a gift. For 24 hours, alumni, students, faculty, staff, parents, and friends unite in support of their passions and make a significant difference. With your contributions to Athletics and Recreation on One Day for DU, we can support our students-athletes, impact our communities, and influence the world. Last year s One Day for DU efforts were record-breaking for the Pioneers. In just 24 hours, more than 230 donors raised over $70,000 for our outstanding student-athletes. With YOUR help, we hope to climb higher this year and raise at least $150,000 in celebration of the 150th year of Denver Athletics. Can we count on your support?! Did You Know? An endowment gift provides a legacy of support for Denver Pioneer Athletics and leaves a lasting impression on the lives of our current and future student-athletes. Tuition $47,520 Fees $1,149 Books $800 Room & Board $13, Total $62, Contribute to an Existing Endowment Once an endowment has been established, any donor may choose to contribute to that endowment. Matching Gifts As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, many companies will match your gifts to Denver Pioneer Athletics. Please consult the benefits office at your place of employment to see what matching gift programs are available or visit matchinggifts.com/du. Planned Giving Planned giving in support of Denver Pioneer Athletics can be accomplished through outright gifts, bequests, trusts, annuities, IRA designations and many other planning methods.* * To learn more about capital project initiatives, planned giving, or any other major gift, please contact Associate Vice Chancellor for External Affairs Brandon Macneill at (303) Being a Denver Pioneer means being a part of something greater than yourself and having pride in being the best you can be. - Trevor Baptiste 18 Men s Lacrosse Real Estate & The Built Environment DUPioneerMovement.com Page 6

9 (The D-Club is available to former student-athletes that participated in varsity athletics) As varsity athletics started in 1867, the tradition of excellence in academics and athletics would not exist without your collective contributions. You also personally understand the difference support can make in the life of a student-athlete. The current and future Pioneers need your support. What can you do now that will positively impact the experience of our current student-athletes? Join the D-Club The $18.67 membership fee is directed to endowing a scholarship (The D-Club Alumni Scholarship Fund) and with each $50,000 raised, we can award an additional scholarship. Stay in Touch Return for D-Club events and KEEP your contact information current so you receive updates from the coach, staff, and team. Be A Fan Support your favorite team from the stands and help create the atmosphere that will drive them to achieve in competition. Whether you attend a single event or purchase season tickets, all support makes a difference. Increase your Contribution to Pioneer Movement Every additional dollar makes a difference in our student-athletes lives. It gives me pride knowing that I am a part of a University that is not only known for its incredible athletic programs, but also its outstanding academics, culture, and environment. Being a Pioneer means being a part of a big family with traditions and friends that will last forever. - Hannah Alder 20 Women s Soccer Undeclared Did You Know?
