However, when you are here for lunch, please remember the following: When you sign in at the office, you may only go to the cafeteria. When lunch is over, allow your son or daughter to line up with their class. Please say good-bye before they lineup to go back to their classroom. Finally, you must return to the office when the students leave the cafeteria. Please do not follow your child back to their classroom. Food Allergies and Birthdays There are many SR students who have severe food allergies. To help keep everyone safe, please remember to ask your child s teacher if there are any allergies in the classroom before sending in a birthday treat. Please include the original packaging, which lists the food s ingredients. A child with food allergies cannot eat a treat, unless the teacher can confirm that the ingredients are safe for the student. Thanksgiving break begins. 23 Happy Thanksgiving!!! 24 NO SCHOOL. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving Break! 27 Classes Resume A Message from our Nurse November is National Diabetes Month and I will be presenting some very basic knowledge on diabetes to the students. Every Wednesday, the students are encouraged to wear blue, and the cafeteria will be serving blueberry yogurt parfaits. Signs of diabetes develop quickly, usually over a period of weeks. Signs to watch for include; increased thirst, extreme hunger, fatigue, irritability, unusual behavior, frequent urination, and unexplained weight loss which is usually the first sign to be noticed. If you begin to see any of these signs in your child, please notify their physician. There have been many students picking up and touching white caterpillars either at home or on our playground. By doing this, the caterpillars cause a rash, as well as, irritation, burning and itching to the skin. I have been informing the students at school not to touch them and would ask that you would please reinforce this at home. Fall is cough and cold season, therefore, if your child is running a fever or has excessive coughing, please keep them home from school until they are feeling better. Make sure they are getting enough sleep, which for elementary aged children is about 10 hours nightly, and drinking plenty of fluids. If you have any questions, I may be reached daily at Kim Peterson R.N. 3
4 Scholastic Book Fair The middle school will be hosting a book fair with Scholastic Books during the week of November 6-10 in the mezzanine from 8:00 a.m.-2:30 p.m. daily. Bullying Prevention Week Bully Prevention Week will be held at SRMS during the week of November 13-17! Each day a bullying prevention announcement will be made in the morning. The schedule is as follows: Monday - Pajama Day - Don't sleep on bullying - stand up, speak out! Thursday - Squad Day - We stick together against bullying! - group of friends dress alike Friday - Camo Day - There's no place for bullies to hide at SRMS - report bullying behaviors! Thanksgiving Break The last day of classes before Thanksgiving break will be Tuesday November 21. Classes will resume on Monday November 27. Happy Thanksgiving! Box Tops Our school collects Box Tops! We would love your support in collecting them too. Each Box Top is worth 10 cents. We will be running a contest for each grading period. Please call the high school office if you have any questions. Breast Care Awareness The South Range High School Cheerleaders showed their girl power on October 6, 2017 in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The squad sold 300 pink t-shirts and held a cheer clinic for 70 elementary girls in grades kindergarten thru fourth grade. The little Raider cheerleaders cheered the second quarter of the South Range - Sharon varsity football game. The girls raised $1500 for this fundraiser. They are presenting a check to the Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center. Mentorship Program A new mentorship program "Raider to Raider" has been implemented with the start of the 2017/2018 school year. High School Raiders are paired up with Elementary Raiders to lead, inspire and set the example for school related activities. The high school students are selected because of their positive role in the school. Students have been working one on one and in group settings to improve both social and academic goals. We currently have 11 high school mentors. This program has been added to our high school list of elective classes for students to receive credit. Research indicates that ALL students will benefit from the impact of their experience with a positive mentoring program. Pictured are seniors Simon and Solomon Weiss working with a group of fourth grade students. Art Club The Art Club has been busy during the months of September or October. We have had several activities including face painting, decorating the rock and a fall bake sale. Also, Minions are here! Art Club, Ceramics and A/P students have been busy creating the winning minions from the elementary art connections program. Come see them on display in our offices of the K-12 complex. 6
