3 History INTRODUCTION UTREC was established in 1965 as the Office of Intramurals, Recreation and Sport Clubs (IRSC) in the Physical Education Department which was exclusively held in the Field House until The department offices then moved into the Health Education Center (HEC) and recreation was held in both the HEC and Field House. In 1977, the IRSC Office and Recreation moved to the newly opened Centennial Hall. Recreation was then maintained in three facilities: The Field House, HEC, and Centennial Hall. In June of 1987 The Board of Trustees approved plans for a new recreational facility. Upon completion of the Student Recreation Center (SRC) in 1990, the Office of Intramurals, Recreation and Sport Clubs became the Office of Recreation. In the Fall of 2015 the SRC celebrated 25 years while the newly named Office of Recreational Services celebrated 50 years of services to the UT community as a department.
