3 History And Tradition PAST Felician Sisters have been in the forefront of Catholic education in the Archdiocese of Detroit for over 140 years, both in the city and the suburbs. Sixty-five years ago the Felician Sisters realized the need for an all-girls Catholic high school in western Wayne County. September 11, 1950, Ladywood opened its doors to 30 freshman students and 15 sophomore students. June 7, 1953, Ladywood graduated its first senior class of 12 students. Named for its beautiful wooded property, Ladywood was dedicated to Our Lady under her title of Our Lady of the Woods. Ladywood challenges students academically and spiritually. 2
