Upper Iowa University Peacock Athletic Fund
Our Mission Peacock Supporter, The Peacock Athletic Fund is committed to providing resources to Upper Iowa University Student-Athletes through gifts that allow them to become Champions in the classroom, on the field, and in life. The Peacock Athletic Fund has been launched as a revival of the former Peacock Club, to usher in a new era of support for Upper Iowa Athletics. The purpose behind the name change was to clearly define the purpose of what the fundraising efforts for Peacock Athletics are. The Peacock Athletic Fund is the annual fundraising pool that is dedicated directly to supporting the studentathletes of Upper Iowa University. Donations collected through the fund are earmarked directly to benefit the 350+ student-athletes that make up the Peacocks. Gifts may be dedicated specifically to a sport or as a general fund donation that benefits all student-athletes through various needs and projects. I invite you to review the following pages to learn more about the specific financial needs the Peacock Athletic Fund serves, and how you can participate in it. It s a great time to be a Peacock, and a great time to support the exceptional student-athletes that represent our great institution as we charge forward to the top of the NSIC and Division II Intercollegiate Athletics. Go Peacocks! David Miller Director of Athletics
Athletic Investment Fundraised dollars can help in any number of ways for the Upper Iowa Athletics Department. Operations to support the 350+ student-athletes range from uniforms to, and supplies to team travel. These expenses add up quickly at more than $2,000 per student-athlete. Division II athletics has drastically raised the level of competition for the Peacocks. Along with new opponents, there are also new challenges faced in funding for our programs, and in turn our fundraising. The charts below show the gaps that Upper Iowa Athletics faces in the fundraising world of Division II. *This diagram is an illustration to summarize all athletic teams at Upper Iowa. It does not directly represent a particular athlete or team. On-Campus Supplies, Dining, $ $ Average Annual Donors 900 Uniforms, $ Average Annual Fundraising Dollars Equipment, $ Travel, $1, Game Expenses, $ $300,000 Average Annual Gifts 800 $ $ $ $ $250,000 $ $200,000 $100 $150, $50 $0 $100,000 A contribution to the Peacock Athletic Fund is an investment in the betterment of Upper Iowa Student-Athletes. By helping to offset any number of costs associated with competing at the Division II level, your gift makes an immediate and direct impact. Your gift now will help to build the foundation for champion success at the Division II level for Upper Iowa Athletics. $50,000 $0 Other Division II institutions have held a large advantage in the fundraising battle over what Upper Iowa Athletics has been able to do since the transition. There is no better time for Upper Iowa to close these gaps than now. The transformations that are occurring in Fayette on a daily basis can serve as the foundation for what the Peacock Athletic Fund can do for Upper Iowa Athletics.
The Impact All gifts to the Peacock Athletic Fund directly benefit the student-athletes at UIU. The impact of your gift is felt by each one of them on many levels. The softball program was able to complete numerous projects for their program this year thanks to the generous support of donors. A new windscreen (pictured right), back stop padding, utility storage shed, utility cart & team gear were just some examples of how the program benefitted from past gifts. I m so grateful to be a part of Upper Iowa Athletics and the Softball program because the facilities and are being updated daily, which means transformations and improvements are taking place. I m excited to see what s in store for me with all of these improvements. of your gift It is through support of individuals like you, that Upper Iowa Student-Athletes will be able to take the next step in Division II competition. Equipment/gear gets worn out fairly quickly when you are using it as much as we do. It s of large importance that we stay up to date with all / gear because we want to represent ourselves in a positive way. Also, by having the best and most up to date gear, we play at a more comfortable level which can help prevent unfortunate injuries. The Men s Basketball program has utilized gifts from donors & fundraising efforts to help offset annual costs associated with team apparel & necessary. With these types of funds available, the program has been able to ensure players are afforded with the best possible needed to compete in the NSIC & Division II. When we travel, looking like a team is important because we are representing Upper Iowa University. It is important to have uniforms that are comfortable to ensure that the players only have to worry about playing. With practice gear, it s nice to be able to look like a team, even when we re just practicing. I always think look good, feel good, play good. Jenna Hermsen Sophomore Masonville, IA Major: Exercise & Sports Studies It s extremely important to have support from donors because we want to represent our program and Upper Iowa in a first class manner wherever we go. I m thankful for being apart of Upper Iowa Basketball/Athletics and the support we have received. I have developed a family, away from home, that will always be there for me. Jake Hughes Senior Cedar Rapids, IA Major: Finance
The benefit of your gift While your gift to the Peacock Athletic Fund can provide $100-$249 $250-$499 $500-$749 $750-$999 $1,000- $2,499 $2,500- $4,999 $5,000+ you with numerous perks and opportunities throughout the year, the largest benefit you will receive is the difference a gift can make for any of our 350+ student-athletes. This chart showcases the direct impact a gift can have on an individual program. The most useful gift to Athletics however, is an unrestricted gift that allows for all studentathletes to benefit from the proceeds. 6 Frequently Asked Questions? Why the name change? The new Peacock Athletic Fund re-branded the former Peacock Club in order to show more transparency for its purpose. As a fund, instead of a club, we hope to clarify any confusion and ensure that all monies raised are directly benefitting Peacock Student-Athletes. With previous support... How can I make a gift? There are many ways that you can make a gift to the PAF... -Donation by cash, check or credit card -Monthly Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) Transfers are taken out on the 5th or 20th each month -Online gift at uiu.edu/giving -Capital gifts and scholarship endowments Contact the Upper Iowa Advancement Office directly to setup (563) Gift-in-Kind for products, services,, etc... Contact directly for more information -Stock transfers -Matching gift Check with you employer to double your gift and impact! Is my gift to the PAF tax deductible? Yes, to the degree that the law allows. Any deductions on your taxes regarding your gifts to the PAF should be consulted with your tax advisor. You will receive a gift receipt for you records as part of your donation. Can I direct my gift to a specific sport? Yes, any donation can be directed to a particular team or be split amongst multiple teams. If no designation is made for a team, your donation will go to the general athletics fund to benefit projects for all student-athletes. Where is my gift needed the most? Each team has individual needs in any given year. An unspecified gift, or general athletics designation, allows Upper Iowa Athletics to utilize a gift to benefit all student-athletes (as is pictured on the next page with the weight room ). Gifts to Uppper Iowa Athletics have helped most recently to fund updates to the current weight room. Brand new dumb bells that are customized with Upper Iowa logos and colors were purchased in June These new dumb bells eliminated a safety hazard with the previous and provide Peacocks from all teams some of the best possible for training. The bar has been set high within the NSIC and Division II Athletics for the Peacocks. Being able to provide the best possible and facilities to the student-athletes will allow for our Peacocks to meet that level of competition, and surpass it with championship results. Adding the new dumb bells is just one small step towards helping Peacock Athletics reach new heights. It is only with your support that we will be able to continue to grow and set a new standard of excellence. It s great to be a Peacock! Power Lift produced the new dumb bells along with a custom paint scheme on the racks. The frame work is painted in light blue, while the platforms are powder coated in navy blue. The navy blue powder coating has only been provided by Power Lift twice before. The first time for the Florida Gators and the second time for the Illinois Fighting Illini football teams. Upper Iowa joins these schools as just the third to ever be provided with the custom powder coating.
