1 Volume 4, Issue 14 April 2018 BOAZ ROCKS! Ready for a fun time with family and friends? Start searching for, finding, and rehiding rocks which are being painted and hidden by folks at the Boaz Area Chamber of Commerce (BACOC) and other friends of Boaz. It s the Boaz Rocks! Program. We are hiding painted rocks around downtown Boaz for folks to come find. Some rocks will be sponsored by businesses and organizations. Others will be fun drawings or sayings to inspire and encourage. When someone finds a rock, they need to go to the Boaz Rocks! Facebook page to see if they won something. If they don t have access to Facebook, they can call the BACOC to see if they are a winner, at: If they won, they take the rock to the sponsoring business or organization to collect the prize. You could win a discount or free item. We are hoping to have families and friends spend more time together downtown hunting, finding, and rehiding or painting rocks and hiding them. 4 Snead State Community College Snead State, Auburn University Sign Articulation Agreement Snead State Community College and Auburn University signed an articulation agreement for Agricultural Science on Friday, March 2. The agreement is the first between Auburn s Agricultural Science program and a two-year community college. The articulation agreement guarantees Snead State students acceptance into the Agricultural Science degree program at Auburn once they have completed an Associate degree. The Agricultural Science degree is a new program at Auburn that began enrolling students during the Fall 2017 Semester. If a student meets the general admissions requirements for Auburn and have completed the program at Snead, they are automatically accepted into our program, said AU Associate Professor Dr. Wheeler Foshee. This agreement will benefit Snead State students and will be invaluable for Auburn. Snead State President Dr. Robert Exley and Vice President for Academics Dr. Annette Cederholm, who is an Auburn alumna, visited Auburn Friday for the official signing ceremony that was the culmination of a year-long process. They were joined by Snead State Assistant to the President and Auburn Alumna Melissa Rice, who played a critical role in the articulation agreement process. Dr. Paul Patterson, Auburn s Dean of Agriculture, expressed his excitement about the partnership and is looking forward to seeing Snead students at Auburn. As part of Friday s visits, the Snead State representatives toured Auburn s campus and previewed areas where students would have classes, conduct research, and participate in field experiences. The tour provided insight into the preparation of Agricultural Science majors and the expectations for transferring. Dr. Tyler Monday, a Snead State alumnus and current Research Fellow at Auburn, led the tour. It is important for Snead State to partner with four-year colleges to provide the best opportunities and positive experiences for our students. We look forward to a close partnership with Auburn University and the student outcomes that are our mission, said Dr. Exley. Snead State Community College and Auburn University recently signed an articulation agreement guaranteeing students, who earn an Associate degree in Agricultural Science from Snead, enrollment in the same program at Auburn. 5 The folks at the Boaz Area Chamber of Commerce are concerned for the health of the community. According to the American Planning Association, One sign of a healthy community is its simultaneous ability to preserve and invent its culture that is, to conserve its history and heritage while developing new expressions for current times. Often, the concept of preservation is interpreted as meaning stagnation when, in fact, heritage and history can be the basis for innovation and advancement. Therefore, we have decided with others in the community to create the Boaz Cultural Society. This organization will strive to preserve our history and celebrate our future. We invite anyone interested in preserving Boaz s history, promoting its art and moving the community forward to call Jodi Skinner at the Boaz Area Chamber of Commerce:
