2 ABOUT BAJA SAE INDIA Mahindra BAJA SAEINDIA began its journey in the year 2007 under the leadership of Dr. Pawan Goenka (former president of SAEINDIA) and under the convenorship of Dr. K C Vora. As SAEINDIA ventured into this unchartered territory of holding a mega event of this scale, NATRiP came forward to lend a helping hand through an earmarked zone at its upcoming proving grounds- NATRAX situated at Pithampur, Indore. This year, we have expanded the event to IIT Ropar, Punjab as the second event location for BAJA SAEINDIA page 02 The event has had the privilege of having Mahindra and Mahindra Limited as its title sponsor since its past six editions, and is proud to continue the association this year too. We have also received valuable support from many organizations across the entire professional spectrum such as Bharat Petroleum, Christ University, Chitkara University, Lear, Mathworks, Altair, Anand Automotives, BKT, Cummins, Delphi, Endurance, John Deere, L&T, NATRiP, Wurth, GM, Ansys, AVL, IIT Ropar, ITW Chemin, Medanta, Polaris, ARAI, icat, Xitadel, B&S, Bosch, Continental, Eleation, IAC, Mentor Graphics, M P Consulting, Padmini Engineering, PTC, Radisson Hotels & Volvo. The Indian Institute of Technology Ropar is one of the eight new IITs set up by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India in The institute has been ranked 3rd among the new IITs in overall and 5th in engineering category in the NIRF Rankings 2017, announced by the HRD Ministry. Since its inception, IIT Ropar has been proving its excellence in teaching and research at international level. The institute is regularly generating research funding from various national and international agencies. IIT Ropar houses outstanding faculty and students, who explore a wide range of innovative ideas in STEM areas. Apart from excelling in academics, IIT Ropar has made a mark on its infrastructure as well as it has been recently awarded 5-star GRIHA rating for the master-plan of its upcoming campus. The institute offers programs at UG and PG levels including 4-year programs leading to B. Tech degree in Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering; and M. Sc, M. Tech, M.S, Ph. D in several engineering, science and Humanities & Social Science disciplines. The curriculum followed at IIT Ropar provides a comprehensive science based engineering education, with a view to produce high quality technical leaders. IIT Ropar's most prominent establishment of Technology Business Incubator (TBI) has been consistently providing mentoring and financial services to the aspiring entrepreneurs.this magnificent site is playing host to BAJA SAEINDIA, promising to keep the participants, spectators, judges and visitors spellbound by its serenity alike on the banks of Satluj River. In its inaugural year, the event received participation from 27 engineering institutes, which has now expanded to an overwhelming number of 400+registrations in Since that time there has been no looking back. The event has become more challenging than ever, both for the participants and for the management. The most notable of all features of the event is the increasing alignment with the best practices followed in the industry, and the knowledge imparted to the students. Unlike the west, wherein the participants are registered on the first-come-first-serve basis, in India there is a mechanism set in place to filter out the best. As the BAJA community celebrates eleventh edition of its existence, Mahindra BAJA SAEINDIA 2018 is slated to be held from 8th - 12th March 2018 at IIT Ropar, Punjab. The total registrations are amounting to over 10,000 students being directly involved with the event and a far greater reach through the Alumni and the representatives of the respective collegiate clubs.. The run upto BAJA SAEINDIA Champions Trophy involves the Virtual BAJA, Technical Scrutiny, Student Workshops, Faculty Workshop, Design/ Cost evaluation, Dynamic Events, Endurance Run etc. This is followed by the prestigious HR Meet, a platform for the participating companies to recruit the best of talents from the pool for BAJA participants. The town lies on bank of Satluj River and Shivalik hill range spreads along the opposite bank of the river. Climate : The climate of Ropar/Rupnagar is characterized by general dryness (except in the south west monsoon season), a hot summer and a cold winter.
