The Hurricane Watch Out Of The Blocks: The University of Tulsa track and field teams enjoyed a successful season where five-school records were set and 11 athletes qualified for the NCAA West Prelims. John Teeters broke the school record in the 100-meter dash, the 4x100-meter relay squad of Matt Davis, Teeters, Julian Frazier and Bryce Robinson set a new best mark, Chase Sammons set new school records in the shot put and discus, and Erin Huddleston broke the women s 3,000-meter steeplechase record this season. The Sprints: John Teeters and Bryce Robinson each qualified for three events in the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash and the 4x100-meter relay. Chase Sammons is one of two athletes in school history to qualify for two events, joining Rickey Wilson who qualified in the 110-meter hurdles and the 400-meter hurdles in 2006 and The TU record-setting men s 4x100-meter relay squad was the first men s relay squad to qualify for the NCAA Prelims. Chase Sammons finished in the top three of every event he competed in leading up to the NCAA West Prelims. Last Time Out: NCAA West Prelims (May 23-25): The Tulsa track and field squad wrapped up its season on Saturday at the 2013 NCAA Division I West Preliminary s at Mike A. Myers Stadium. Freshman John Teeters set the school record in the 100-meter dash in 10:27 during the preliminary rounds, and finished 20th in the event. Teeters also set a personal best in the 200-meter dash of to advance to the semifinals. Sophomore Chase Sammons was 14th in the discus with a heave of 181 feet, 3 inches (55.24m) and 18th in the shot put with a throw of 56 feet, 9.5 inches (17.31m). The Tulsa men s 4x100 relay squad, without All-American Bryce Robinson, was 20th in as Matt Davis, John Teeters, Julian Frazier and Andrew Jameson competed for the Hurricane. Freshman Adam Palamar was 25th in the prelims of the 1,500-metersin 3: On the women s side, Katherine Camp finished 24th in the semifinals of the 800-meters in 2:10.29 after running a time of 2:07.83 in the prelims. Caroline Schuster was 26th in the 400-meter dash with a time of 54.25, and Erin Huddleston was 31st in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10: Tulsa Men Claim Third, Women 10th at C-USA Championships: The Tulsa men s track and field squad claimed third at the 2013 Conference USA Championships hosted by Rice on May The men s Golden Hurricane squad tallied 147 points to finish third, behind UTEP, who won the meet with points and Houston, who claimed second with points. The TU women finished in 10th with 42 points, while UCF had 167 points to win the team title. MEN Sophomore Chase Sammons won the men s discus with a school-record throw, while senior Paulo Pinheiro won his second-straight 10,000-meter title at the C-USA Championships. Sammons won the discus with a heave of 183 feet to break his own school record in the event. Freshman Alex Lybarger just missed scoring, finishing in ninth with a throw of 139 feet, 6 inches. Pinheiro clocked a time of 30:27.25 to win his second-straight title. Dennis Hodapp

In the 200-meter dash, freshman Bryce Robinson claimed second crossing the line in 21.22, while fellow freshman John Teeters was fourth in Robinson and Teeters also finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 100- meter dash. Robinson earned a time of 10.48, while Teeters was clocked in The final runner-up showing came in the shot put, as sophomore Chase Sammons had a heave of 58 feet, 2.5 inches to finish second. Sementelli was fourth in the 1,500-meters in 4:47.94, and fifth in the javelin with a heave of 152 feet (46.34m). WOMEN Senior Erin Huddleston won the 3,000-meter steeplechase, while junior Katherine Camp won the 800-meters to highlight action for the TU women s track and field squad. Huddleston won the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a school record time of 10:25.89, breaking her previous school record of 10:40.92 set earlier this year. Camp ran the third-fastest time in school history in the 800-meters to win the event. Camp s time of 2:06.38 was just.11 off the meet record, and a second off of the school record. Senior Sarah Macpherson snared third-place in the 1,500-meters in 4:26.21, while fellow senior Melanie Hughes was fifth in 4: In the 5,000-meters, Huddleston placed fifth crossing the line in 16:41.76, while senior Ashley Scott was seventh in 16: Tulsa Wins Five Titles At Arkansas Team Invitational The Tulsa track and field squad claimed five victories at the Arkansas Invitational on Saturday, April 27, at John McDonnell Field. On the men s side, the Golden Hurricane had the top-three finishers in the meter race, as freshman Adam Palamar won the event in 3: Sophomore Danny Thater was second in 3:52.34, while junior Brian Tabb was third in 3: Sophomore Chase Sammons won two events, as he claimed a triumph in the discus with a heave of 169 feet, 10 inches. Hours later, he came back and won the shot put with a heave of 57 feet, 2.25 inches. Sammons has now won six titles this season. Freshman John Teeters was victorious in the 100-meter dash crossing the line in Junior Andrew Heyes won the 3,000-meter race in 8:24.10, which marks the sixthfastest time in school history. Spring Invite Chase Sammons Arkansas Invitational Chase Sammons C-USA #TulsaTrack Event Winners Social Media Tulsa Hurricane Tulsa Track time of 4:26.74, while fellow senior Melanie Hughes was fifth in 4: Senior Caroline Schuster was sixth in the 400-meter dash in 55.29, while junior Audrey Jean-Baptiste claimed eight-place in Hodapp Runs Third Fastest 10K At Drake Relays Dennis Hodapp ran the third fastest time in school history in the men s 10,000-meters, while the Tulsa trio Ashley Scott, Josie Wilcox and Paulo Pinheiro all earned sixth-place finishes at the 104th running of the Drake Relays on Thursday, April 25, at Drake Stadium. Hodapp clocked a time of 29:55.18 to earn a fifth-place showing in the event. Kevin Mayer finished 27th in 31: Scott ran a 5,000-meter time of 16:36.70, which is a new personal record for the senior. That time ranks as the fourth-best time in school history. Wilcox crossed the line in 45:38.09 in the 10,000-meters, while Janessa Dunn was 11th in 36: In the men s 5,000-meters, senior Paulo Pinheiro claimed sixth place in 14: Pinheiro led for a majority of the race, but was bested by Drake s Brogan Austin. Golden Hurricane Enjoys Success At Mt. Sac Relays Erin Huddleston ran a personal best of 10:40:92 in the Olympic Development heat of 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Mt. Sac Relays. In the men s 3,000-meter steeplechase A heat, junior Emmett Cookson recorded a time of 9:35.76 to earn an 18th-place showing. The Tulsa trio of sophomore Tim Rackers, freshman Marc Scott and sophomore Brandi Krieg all attained personal bests in the 5,000-meters. Rackers, competing in the men s A race, claimed 17th in 14:12.61, while Scott ran a time of 14:13.53 in the B race to finish fifth. In the women s 5,000-meter C race, Krieg earned a 12th-place showing in 16: Tulsa Wins Five Titles at Nebraska Quad The Tulsa track and field squad won five titles at the Nebraska Quad at the Ed Weir Track on Saturday, April 13. The Golden Hurricane competed against Wyoming, South Dakota State and the host Cornhuskers during the four-team event. On the men s side, the freshman duo of Bryce Robinson and John Teeters went 1-2 in the 100-meter dash. Robinson, an 2013 All-American in the 60-meter dash, ran the fourth fastest time in school history of 10.43, while Teeters clocked in at Freshman Simon Greiner won the 1,500 in 3:54.00 to win the event, while fellow freshman Jake McDonnell was seventh (4:06.05). Sophomore Chase Sammons won the men s shot put with a throw of meters (56-8) to win his fourth title of the young outdoor season. Freshman Alex Lybarger was third with a heave of meters ( ). Sammons Sets Two School Records At Arkansas Spring Invitational: Sophomore Chase Sammons shattered school records in the discus and shot put to highlight action for the Tulsa track and field team during the Arkansas Spring Invitational on Saturday at John McDonnell Field. Sammons won the discus with a record-breaking throw of 177 feet, 7 inches and was one of five TU athletes to win crowns at the invitational. Sammons also finished second in the shot put with a program-best heave of 59 feet. The Golden Hurricane 4x100 meter relay squad of senior Matt Davis, freshman John Teeters, senior Julian Frazier and freshman Bryce Robinson also set a school record of en route to a second-place showing. Tulsa went 1-2 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, as junior Emmett Cookson won the event with a time of 9: Senior James Keilbarth claimed second in 9: The Hurricane also went 1-2 in the 3,000-meters, as freshman Adam Palamar claimed the event in 8:20.86, while junior Danny Thater was second in 8: Freshman Simon Greiner won the 1,500-meter run crossing the line in 3: Teeters was third in the 100-meter dash in 10.51, which marks the fifth fastest time in school history. Frazier earned a fifth-place showing in the 200-meter dash in 21.56, which was also the fifth fastest time in program history. The final win of the day came on the women s side, as senior Erin Huddleston won the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 11: Senior Caroline Schuster was fifth and 10th, respectively in the 200 and 100 meter dashes. In the 200, she earned a time of 24.51, while she had a 100-meter dash time of Junior Audrey Jean-Baptiste was eight in the 200-meter dash (24.72) and 11th in the 100-meter dash (12.24). Tulsa Opens Season At Tulsa Duels: The Tulsa track and field squad opened its outdoor season with a successful showing in the Tulsa Duels held at Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium on Saturday. Winning events for TU were Chase Sammons in the men s shot put and discus, and Brandi Krieg in the women s In addition, the Tulsa men s 4x100 relay squad of Matt Davis, John Teeters, Julian Frazier and Andrew Jameson won the event in a time of Sammons claimed victory in both the events he competed in today. He won the shot put in with a throw of meters and the discus in meters. The Golden Hurricane had two of the top four finishers in the 2,000-meter steeplechase, as Emmett Cookson and James Keilbarth were third and fourth, respectively. Cookson crossed the line in 6:08.98, while Keilbarth was clocked in 6: In the 110-meter hurdles, Colt Johnson was fourth in 14.97, and Alex Sementelli was sixth in In the women s 1500-meter run, Brandi Krieg won the event in 4:42.11, while Olivia Lopez was second in 4: Tulsa had four of the top six finishers in the 3000-meter run, as Natasha Cockram was second (10:14.39), Joise Wilcox was third (10:16.89), Janessa Dunn (10:21.15) and Larissa Erickson was sixth (10:35.61). In the women s 800-meter run, Melanie Hughes was fifth in 2:19.70, while Lauren Collette was eighth in 2: Golden Hurricane Leads Conference USA Title Race: Since the new Conference USA was formed and began competition in the season, Tulsa athletic teams have won a league-best 40 Conference USA Championships, including regular season and post-season tournament titles. The next closest since 2005 is SMU with 23 C-USA titles. TU won its first crown in the season with a third straight men s cross country title in October. Tulsa has added C-USA volleyball regular season and postseason titles, a men s soccer postseason crown, a women s basketball tournament title, football West Division title and overall crown. Tulsa won eight C-USA Championships in including: men s cross country, men s indoor track, women s golf; men s tennis, women s tennis, volleyball and women s softball (regular season & tournament titles).
