He has been conduc ng psychological evalua ons over ten years, ini ally through a group prac ce and for the la er years in private prac ce. In addi on to his private prac ce, Dr. Frazer holds an adjunct academic appointment of Assistant Clinical Professor at Yale University School of Medicine. Through this appointment he brings the resources and knowledge pool of one of the world s leading Ivy-League ins tu ons into his work to assist his clients. Presenta on: Managing incidents of threat con nue to be a unique safety concern and behavioral health challenge in today s schools. In the discipline of forensic psychology risk is thought of as exis ng on a con nuum ranging from low to imminent. Forensic risk assessment is accomplished by analyzing a combina on of data sources through a forensic procedure rela ng to an incident of threat. Addi onal complexity comes from the scien fic conclusion that there is no risk profile for perpetrators of violence in schools. Incidents are highly heterogeneous as are the students behind these events. This presenta on will provide technical direc ves for establishing best prac ce procedural guidelines and ac ons for assessing and managing incidents of perceived or real threat in school communi es.
5 Friday, October 13th Friday Break out Sessions Friday Break out Sessions: (1:00 3:00pm) Break out Session #1: Follow up from the Friday morning Keynote Presenta on Presenter: Dr. Eric Frazer This a ernoon session will be a follow up from the morning keynote presenta on and will include collabora ve groups working with student case scenarios. Break out Session #2: The Effects of Trauma on Brain Development and Learning Presenter(s): Farmington Public Schools & CREC Trauma zed children's difficul es with cogni on, learning, self-regula on and development can last a life me, making it more likely that they will con nue the cycle of abuse in their rela onships, abuse drugs and alcohol, have trouble finding and keeping jobs or end up in the criminal jus ce system. Once schools understand the educa onal impacts of trauma, they can become safe, suppor ve environments where students are able to make the posi ve connec ons with adults and peers they might otherwise push away, learn to calm their emo ons so they can focus and behave appropriately, and feel confident enough to advance their learning. In this workshop, par cipants will learn how chronic "toxic" stress and trauma in early childhood impacts brain development, thereby affec ng their ability to learn in the classroom. Par cipants will learn concrete strategies to mi gate the effects of trauma and promote both academic and social emo onal learning in the classroom. Materials will be provided that par cipants can share with the teaching and support staff in their districts.
