1 National History Day in Wisconsin Northwoods Regional Event March 25, 2017

2 SCHEDULE OF EVENTS TIME EVENT LOCATION Open at 8:15am Arrival Confirm your competition time and room Buy the 2017 t-shirt $10/12 Pay late entry fee $5 Concessions available Lakeland Union High School Non-Exhibit students do not need to arrive early in the morning. We ll have a brief discussion on strategies to improve projects

3 FINAL ROUNDS There will be a final round of competition only for: Junior Individual Exhibits Junior Papers Final round judging will take place without students present. AWARDS CEREMONY A brief awards ceremony will take place in the Auditorium, starting at about 2:00. Three state finalists and an alternate will be chosen from each category and division. Registrations for State are due on April 5 th. If a finalist hasn t registered, the alternate will be contacted on April 6 th. After the ceremony, NHD in Wisconsin staff will answer questions about the State event. We ll also share some general tips for success at State through project improvement. As soon as possible, results will be posted at:

4 JUDGING and VIEWING OF PROJECTS PAPERS & WEBSITES: Website and Paper interviews are closed to the public. Only the students being interviewed will be allowed in the competition rooms. ** Paper students - Bring a printed copy of your Paper, including the required Bibliography. ** Website students Know your URL. View Websites: View Papers: DOCUMENTARIES & PERFORMANCES: Documentaries and Performances are open to the public. Please do not enter or exit a room while a presentation is in progress. Doors will open during the interview and set-up times. Photos may be taken only with permission. ** Bring three copies of your Process Paper + Bibliography. These documents are required for a documentary or performance project to advance to the State contest. Documentary students: If your time permits, try to test your documentary. Rooms will be open from about 8:30-9:45 and during any breaks. Bring your documentary in at least two formats (DVD, flash drive, online, saved to the hard drive of a laptop). Do not rely only on a flash drive or YouTube.com. Do not rely on accessing a school s drive or network. Performance students: According to NHD rules, once you enter the door to your competition room, you must carry and set-up all your props and then remove them after your interview. Adults can help carry props and costumes through the hallways. EXHIBITS: During judging (10:00-12:30pm), only judges and Exhibit students are allowed in the Exhibit room. A judge or room monitor will call students in for their interviews. Exhibits will be set-up from 8:30-9:45. NHD rules require students carry their exhibit in from the entrance door of the room and then set-up their exhibit without adult help. Exhibit removal is from approximately 12:30-1:45. Adults can help with exhibit removal. ** Bring three copies of your Process Paper + Bibliography. These documents are required for an Exhibit project to advance to the State contest. The public may view Exhibits before judging begins at 10:00 and from approximately 12:30-1:45.
