2 The University Department of Botany was founded in 195 The Department operates from the Institute of Basic Applied Sciences building, under the guidance of Prof. AK Srivastava, Head of the Department Dean, Faculty of Science. JAFAR NIZAM, PROF. YD TYAGI, PROF. LP MALL, PROF. OP MALL, PROF. CP MALIK, PROF. SN CHATURVEDI, PROF. YS MURTY AND PROF. HC ARYA) for the best paper presented (if recommended by experts) in each section. (The first and presenter author should not be above 30 years). At least three papers should be presented for the award of medal in each section. For the best poster presentation, PROF. KS BILGRAMI GOLD MEDAL (author below the age of 35 years) and PROF. SN DIXIT GOLD MEDAL will be awarded. No member shall be eligible to receive the certificate and/medal for a second time in the same section or in another section. The same applies to the awards of the Society. Date of birth of each author/co-author must be given below his/her name, failing which the paper will not be considered for prize contest (only the Supervisor may be the co-author in the paper). YOUNG BOTANIST AWARD CTEST The three-day conference shall include the Presidential Address, 5 Medal Award Lectures, 2 Special Invited Lectures, and several concurrent sessions for presentation of original Research Papers and Posters in different sections of Botany. Any member shall not be allowed to present more than 2 Papers for the conference. All the submitted Papers shall be subject to a scrutiny, and upon due recommendation, be eligible for publication in the Volume of Abstracts of the INDIAN BOTANICAL SOCIETY. All Oral Presentation should be restricted to 6-8 minutes, to be followed by a discussion. Participants are requested to prepare their presentations on MS Power Point for LCD presentations. Participants shall be allotted an area of 6 X 6 at the venue for Poster Presentations. A separate section will be held for young botanists, below the age of 35 years as on October 31, 2016**, for presenting their paper in the section of the Young Botanist Award. Life members can submit full papers in triplicate for this contest by August 31, These will be scrutinized by a committee and three best selected papers will be allowed for presentation. Each participant will be given 20 minutes for paper presentation followed by 5 minutes for discussion. The best presentation shall get Young Botanist Award 2016 (Dr. M.S. Swaminathan Merit Certificate and Dr. Bahadur Singh Gold Medal). Members intending to participate in the conference will be required to submit full-copy of their Manuscripts (alongwith a good copies of the illustrations) and a copy of the Abstracts (not exceeding 150 words) mentioning the Scientific Section* of the paper. A medal will be awarded to an outstanding plant Morphologist/Taxonomist up to the age of 50 years as on October 31, 2016 for his/her research contributions in any group of plant kingdom. SVS CHAUHAN GOLD MEDAL A medal will be awarded to the youngest participant up to the age of 25 years as on October 31, 2016 who has presented his/her research paper in any group of plant kingdom. Life members can submit their paper (single authorship) for this contest by August 31, MEDAL/AWARD FOR WOMEN SCIENTIST There are two separate medal/award for this category below the age of 50 years as on October 31, An individual can receive only one award from either of the two in this category. WOMAN SCIENTIST MEDAL: A medal for Women Scientist up to the age of 50 years is instituted by the Society to recognize women botanists. Nominations are invited along with detailed biodata, list of publications and reprints of 10 best papers published for evaluation by Committee constituted for the purpose. The last date of the receipt of the nominations is August 31, ** A certified copy of the high school certifi cate for the verifi cation of the age must be enclosed with the paper, while the original has to be produced at the time of paper presentation. THE Prof. V Puri Medal: RANCHI UNIVERSITY, RANCHI The was established on July 12, The geographical span of the University encompasses 5 districts of Jharkhand, namely Ranchi, Gumla, Khunti, Simdega and Lohardaga. These districts are inhabited predominantly by the tribal populace and the University takes pride in having successfully lived up to their expectations aspirations during the 56 years of its existence. The University is constituted of 23 Post-graduate departments, 15 Constituent Colleges, and 49 Affiliated Colleges. These constituents impart education in Sciences, Humanities, Languages, Commerce, Medicine, Psychiatry, Law, Engineering, Business Management and Education etc. Besides these institutions, the University also operates the UGC sponsored Human Resource Development Centre. The Central Library of the University is fully automated, has INFLIBNET facility with online access to more than 5000 e-journals. The venue of the conference, the Institute of Basic Applied Science building, was inaugurated by Her Excellency, the President of India, Smt. Pratibha Devi Singh Patil, on December 10, The said venue houses the 6 major University Departments of Science, including Botany, the subject of our conclave. The city is well-connected to all parts of India via Road, Rail and Air linkages. Among other highways, the NH 33, NH 23 and NH 75, pass through Ranchi and connect it with neighbouring states. The Ranchi (RNC) and Hatia (HTE) railway junctions within the town-area, connect with Chennai, Raipur, Bhubaneshwar, Kolkata, New Delhi, Mumbai and other major cities. The Birsa Munda Airport links Ranchi with Patna, Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru. SCIENTIFIC PROGRAMME Prof. SK Chaturvedi (Nagaland) TO PROF. JYOTI KUMAR 39TH IBS RANCHI UNIVERSITY RANCHI JHARKHAND Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand (India), is situated at N and E, at an average elevation of 651 m. above the sea level. Owing to a combination of hilly topography and dense tropical forests, Ranchi experiences a relatively moderate climate vis-a-vis the other parts of Jharkhand. It was primarily for these climatic reasons, that Ranchi remains a much-preferred hill-station and was designated as the summer-capital of Bihar (undivided). The weather of Ranchi at the time of conference is expected to be pleasant and salubrious. Prof. UC Lavania (Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh) Prof. P Maheshwari Medal: ABOUT RANCHI The Indian Botanical Society (IBS) came into existence, as a result of a resolution passed by the Botany Section of THE INDIAN SCIENCE CGRESS, at its Nagpur session in January, Thereby, a committee was constituted under the Chairmanship of DR. WINFILD DUDGE, Ewing Christian College, Allahabad. The other members of the Committee included DR. BIRBAL SAHNI, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi; and DR. W BURNS, College of Agriculture, Poona. The election process was concluded on December 6, 1920, and on that date, the IBS was declared as duly organized. The IBS endeavours at organising of seminars conferences and publication of a research journal (THE JOURNAL OF INDIAN BOTANICAL SOCIETY). Currently, the headquarter of the Society is based at Rohilkhand University, Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. The last conference of the society concluded successfully at the Department of Botany, University of Rajasthan, Jaipur, between October 26-28, 201 Prof. Birbal Sahani Medal: ABOUT THE The study of Botany now incorporates several frontiers in basic as well as applied lines of research, specially linking many branches of Science to place the subject into the forefront. It attracts attention of everyone on earth and more so as its connectivity extends to the living of human race. At the same time it has forced us to meet number of challenges like in case of any other scientific study. The thought in botanical renovation not only impresses to accept the novelty in Botany, also to revisit its old but premier branches in appropriate order.
