2 Athletic Prizes Consolidated for Investment ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT'S MOST VALUABLE PLAYER (1979) Originally established with gifts from members of the College community in support of the May 1977 and 1978 marathons. Additional gifts were made by alumni, parents, friends and coaches of the College in the years Income to be used in the following varsity sports: Women s Basketball, Cross-Country, Field Hockey, Indoor Track, Lacrosse, Outdoor Track, Rowing, Soccer, Squash, Swimming, Tennis, Track and Volleyball; Men s Baseball, Cross-Country, Football, Golf, Lacrosse, Rowing and Wrestling. ROBERT R. BARTLETT AWARD (1992) Gifts of family and friends in honor of the 60th anniversary of the late Mr. Bartlett s graduation from Trinity College in Income to be used for two awards to be given annually to a female and male athlete who possess a combination of excellence in athletics and devotion to community and/or campus service. BOARD OF FELLOWS OUTSTANDING JUNIOR WOMAN SCHOLAR / ATHLETE AWARD (1980) Gifts of members of the Board of Fellows. Income is to be used for an annual award for a junior woman who has combined notable scholarship with outstanding athletic achievement. ROY A. DATH MOST VALUABLE SOCCER PLAYER AWARD (1978) Gifts received from friends of Roy A. Dath, Professor in the Physical Education Department from 1952 to 1978, and varsity soccer coach for twenty-five years. Income for an annual award to the most valuable player on the men s varsity soccer team, so selected for his demonstration of outstanding ability and dedication, and for his display of true sportsmanship. ROBERT A. FALK MEMORIAL LACROSSE AWARD (1983) Memorial gifts received from friends and associates of Robert Falk, Income for an annual award to the member of the varsity men s lacrosse team who makes the most outstanding contribution to the team s defense, with the balance being used to support the general operating expenses of the men's lacrosse team. LARRY GLUCKMAN EXCELLENCE IN ROWING FUND (2008) Gifts of alumni, parents, and friends in honor of Coach Larry Gluckman, whose leadership enabled the vast and rapid ascension of the men s crew program from Income is to be used to support the men s and women s rowing teams. BOB HARRON SCHOLAR-ATHLETE AWARD (1979) Gifts of friends of Robert C. Harron, Director of College Relations from 1964 to Income for an award to a scholar-athlete member of the junior class. FRANK MARCHESE HOCKEY AWARD (1976) Gift of Frank J. Marchese of Vernon, equipment manager at the Ferris Athletic Center until his retirement in Income for a trophy for the team s most valuable hockey player. A permanent hockey trophy was also purchased from income earned. SUSAN MARTIN SCHOLAR ATHLETE AWARD (1979) Gifts received from members of the College community in connection with the May 1977 marathon project. Income for an award to a woman scholar-athlete of the senior class and to help sustain expenses of the annual Awards Day ceremony. Mrs. Martin Haberlandt, 1971, was the first woman scholar-athlete recipient. GEORGE SHELDON MCCOOK TROPHY (1967) Bequest of Anson T. McCook, 1902, Hon. '52, of Hartford, CT. Income to support the trophy awards, and the balance, if any, to be added to the principal of the George Sheldon McCook Scholarship Fund. ROBERT S. MORRIS TRACK TROPHY (1955) Gift of Robert S. 3 LAWRENCE J. SILVER AWARD (1968) Gifts received from classmates and friends in memory of Lieutenant Lawrence J. Silver, 1964, of Hartford. Income to finance an annual award to the individual, preferably a non-athlete, selected by the Trinity College Athletic Department, who has made the most significant contribution to the Trinity Athletic Program. Any unused income to be added to principal. JOHN E. SLOWIK SWIMMING AWARD (1959) Gifts of friends of John E. Slowik, 1939, captain of the College swimming team in 1939, who was killed in action with the Eighth Air Force in World War II. Income to support the annual Slowik Award to an outstanding member of the swimming team. SQUASH RACQUETS AWARDS (1976) Gift of John A. Mason, 1934, of West Chatham, Massachusetts, a valued member of the Trinity administration for many years. Income to be used for the following awards: (1) John A. Mason Award an award to the member of the men s varsity squash racquets team who has shown the greatest improvement during the year; (2) Phyllis L. Mason Award an award to the member of the women s varsity squash racquets team who has shown the greatest improvement during the year; (3) Virginia C. Kurth Award an award to the most valuable member of the women s squash racquets team; (4) Karl Kurth Award an award to the most valuable member of the men s squash racquets team. ALBERT C. WILLIAMS (1966) Memorial gifts from classmates and the Trinity College Hockey Association. Income to be used to purchase a permanent hockey trophy and to present each year a replica of this trophy to the hockey player who most nearly exemplifies the spirit and leadership shown by the late Albert C. Williams, ,325 6,299 65,690 11,750 Athletics Consolidated for Investment PAUL D. ASSAIANTE TENNIS CENTER (2010) Gifts of Hayes G. Miller, 2007, of New York, NY, and Paul T. Miller, 1967, P'07, of East Hanover, NJ, along with contributions from alumni and friends. Income from the fund is to be used to support the maintenance, programming, and activities of the Paul D. Assaiante Tennis Center, named in honor of Paul D. Assaiante, P'06, associate professor of Physical Education and head coach, Men's Tennis and Men's Squash. ASSISTANT COACH FUND FOR WOMEN'S TENNIS AND SQUASH (2011) Gift of anonymous donors. Income from the fund is to be used to support an assistant coaching position for the women's tennis and squash programs. WENDY C. BARTLETT FUND FOR WOMEN'S SQUASH (2011) Gifts of anonymous donors, in honor of Wendy C. Bartlett, associate professor of Physical Education and head coach, Women's Tennis and Women's Squash. Income from the fund is to be used to support the woman's squash program. BARTON FAMILY FOUNDATION FUND FOR CROSS COUNTRY (2009) Gift of the Barton Family Foundation. Income is to be used to support the Women's and Men's Cross Country programs. DAVID I. BROWN '73 (2006) Gifts of The Louise H. and David S. Ingalls Foundation, of Shaker Heights, OH, along with family and friends in loving memory of David I. Brown. Income will be returned to principal for three consecutive years. Accumulated available income will be used to purchase one racing shell every four years for the men's varsity heavyweight crew squad. These shells are to be named the "David I. Brown" during the time they are used for intercollegiate racing. Income will also be used to purchase other items of equipment necessary for the use and maintenance of the "David I. 4 JOSEPH CASTLE FAMILY (1999) Gift of Joseph Castle and Sally Watson Castle of Gladwyne, Pennsylvania, parents of Kathryn Castle VanBlarcom, The income from this fund is to be used to provide additional support to the men s and women s squash programs. FORMATO FUND FOR FOOTBALL (2010) Gift of Andrew J. Formato, 1992, of Bronxville, NY. Income to be used to support the yearly operating budget of the College's intercollegiate football program. FOUNDERS FUND FOR TRINITY COLLEGE ROWING (2012) Gifts of alumni and parents. Income from the fund will be placed and held in a restricted fund annually so that in every 4th year, requisite funds are available and utilized to purchase a new Founders shell for the men's rowing team. The preexisting Founders shell may remain in the fleet, or be sold, as determined by the director of athletics in consultation with the men s varsity head rowing coach. When a Founders shell is sold, the net funds resulting in that sale must be allocated toward the purchase of the new Founders shell, or added to the endowed Founders Fund for Trinity College Rowing. At any given time, there may be more than one Founders shell in the fleet. RYAN GORDON/CONNECTICUT WHALE SCHOLARS FUND (2007) Gift of Phyllis and Barry Gordon, on behalf of their son, Ryan, and the Connecticut Whale Community Foundation. Income will be used to underwrite equipment and program costs for low income Hartford children participating in Learn to Play Hockey programs at the College's Koeppel Community Sports Center. GOSSLING FAMILY FUND FOR FOOTBALL SAFETY (2011) Bequest of Marion Hochstein Gossling, W'44, P'74, of Bloomfield, CT, and established by Paul L. Gossling, 1974, P'10, and his family in loving memory of Harry R. Gossling, M.D., 1944, P'74, in recognition of Dr. Gossling s involvement with Trinity athletics and medical service to its football team. The income from the fund will be used to enhance safety for the student athletes on the football team. NORMAN T. GRAF CREW ENDOWMENT (1966) Renamed in 1985 in honor of Mr. Graf, Trinity crew coach for fourteen years. Income for the upkeep of the Bliss Boat House and for support of crew. HOCKEY ENDOWMENT (1974) Gifts of alumni, parents and friends of the College hockey program. Income to be used for the annual expenses of the varsity hockey team. KELLNER SQUASH ENDOWMENT (1988) Gift of George A. Kellner, 1964, of New York City. Income to be used to strengthen the squash racquets program. Mr. Kellner served as Trustee of the College from 1992 to 2000 and from 2003 to LLOYD A. NEMEREVER '93 FUND FOR ATHLETICS (2012) Gift of Lloyd A. Nemerever, 1993, of New York, NY. Income from the fund is to be used to provide resources and opportunities to student athletes and coaches engaged in the College's athletics program. STANLEY OGRODNIK (2010) Gifts of alumni in honor of Coach Stanley E. Ogrodnik P 86, 89, on the occasion of his retirement after 27 years of service as Head Men s Basketball Coach at Trinity College. Income from the fund will be used at the discretion of the College's athletic director and head basketball coach to support the men's basketball program. Coach Ogrodnick joined the Athletic Department in 1979 and retired in During his tenure at the College, he became the most successful coach in Trinity College basketball history and a compiled a record that gave him one of the top 30 winning percentages among NCAA Division III coaches. RAETHER WOMEN'S ATHLETIC FUND (1995) Gifts of Paul E. Raether, 1968, P'93, '96, '01, of Greenwich, CT, presently serving as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the College. Income from the fund is to be used to support the College's football program. WILLIAM AND MARLYNN SCULLY FUND FOR INTERCOLLEGIATE GOLF (2011) Gift of Marlynn and William P. Scully, 1961, of Vero Beach, FL. Income to be used to support the yearly operating budget of the College's intercollegiate golf program. WILLIAM AND MARLYNN SCULLY FUND FOR INTERCOLLEGIATE MEN'S BASKETBALL (2011) Gift of Marlynn and William P. Scully, 1961, of Vero Beach, FL. Income to be used to support the yearly operating budget of the College's intercollegiate basketball program. ALBERT R. SUBBLOIE, JR. '82 FUND FOR ATHLETICS Gifts of Albert R. Subbloie, Jr., 1982, of Orange, CT. Income from the fund is to be used to support athletic programs at the discretion of the College's Director of Athletics. FREDERIC T. AND DOUGLAS T. TANSILL (1977) Gifts of Frederic T. Tansill, 1922, and Douglas T. Tansill, 1961, P'91, '96, of Stamford, CT. Income to be used as budget enhancement for Trinity s intercollegiate athletic program. Mr. D. Tansill is a Trustee Emeritus of the College. He served on the Board from 1973 to 1979 and again from 1988 to LUTHER L. TERRY, JR. SQUASH (1997) Gift from Belinda W. and Luther L. Terry, Jr., 1967, of Bedford Hills, NY. Income to be used to support the Men s and Women s Squash program equally as budget enhancement. Mr. Terry presently serves as a Trustee of the College. LUTHER L. TERRY, JR. WOMEN'S LACROSSE (1997) Gift from Belinda W. and Luther L. Terry, Jr., 1967, of Bedford Hills, NY. Income to be used to support the Women s Lacrosse program as budget enhancement. Mr. Terry presently serves as a Trustee of the College. CARL G. TORREY '77 MEMORIAL (1980) Memorial gifts received from family and friends of Mr. Torrey, a member of the Class of Income to support the special travel programs of the men s and women s squash racquets teams. TRINITY COLLEGE ATHLETICS (2000) Gifts received from alumni, parents and friends of the College. Income to be used for both men s and women s varsity sports programs (budget enhancement) at the discretion of the Athletic Director. TRINITY COLLEGE FOOTBALL (1997) Gift from Belinda W. and Luther L. Terry, Jr., 1967, of Bedford Hills, NY. Income to be used to support the Trinity College Football program as budget enhancement. Mr. Terry presently serves as a Trustee of the College. TRINITY COLLEGE FUND FOR FOOTBALL (2010) Gifts of R. Kevin Smith, 1987, of Sudbury, MA, and augmented by gifts from alumni. Income is to be used to support the College's football program. Mr. Smith served as a trustee of the College from TRINITY COLLEGE MEN'S SQUASH FUND (2011) Gifts of Edward C. Rorer, 1965, P'91, of Villanova, PA, presently serving as a Trustee of the College. Income from the fund is to be used to support the men's squash program. TRINITY COLLEGE RACQUET SPORTS (2011) Gifts of anonymous donors. 6 TRINITY COLLEGE SPECIAL BASEBALL (1984) Contributions from alumni and friends and proceeds from various fundraising efforts to help defray the costs of the annual baseball trip or other appropriate baseball team needs. TRINITY COLLEGE SQUASH RACQUETS (2010) Established with an initial gift from Donald J. Boyko, 1951, of Boston, MA, and augmented by gifts from alumni, parents, and friends. Income is to be used to provide support to the men s and women s squash programs. TRINITY COLLEGE WOMEN'S ATHLETIC FUND (2011) Gift of Christine M. and Peter S. Duncan, 1981, P'13, '14, of Rye, NY. Income from the fund is to be used to support woman's athletic programs at the discretion of the College's Director of Athletics. MICHAEL D. TUCCI '82 FUND FOR ATHLETICS (2007) Gift of Michael D. Tucci, 1982, of Rye, NY. Income is to be used to support the College s Department of Athletics. WOMEN S SQUASH RACQUETS DISCRETIONARY (1989) Gift of an anonymous donor. Income to be used at the discretion of the women s squash racquets coach to supplement the annual squash racquets budget. MARJORIE G. AND MARTIN D. WOOD TRAINING ROOM (1978) Gifts of Martin D. Wood, 1942, of Arlington, Virginia, Trustee of the College from 1971 until Income to be used at the discretion of the Director of Athletics to support salaries paid to students working as athletic trainers. Any unused balance may be accumulated from year to year and used to acquire equipment needed in rehabilitation and training within the training facility of the College. MERRILL A. YAVINSKY '65 FUND FOR FOOTBALL (2008) Gifts from Merrill A. Yavinsky, 1965, of Washington, D.C. and from Mallory Walker of Washington, D.C., friend of the College. Income is to be used for to support the College's football program. MARCELLA AND P. RHOADS ZIMMERMAN '65 SQUASH (2011) Gift of Marcella and P. Rhoads Zimmerman, 1965, of Nashville, TN. KISONAS '57 (1985) Gifts of Paul A. Cataldo, 1957, of Franklin, MA, Trustee of the College from 1991 to 1997, in memory of Raymond C. Kisonas, 1957, his roommate. Income to be used for expenses of the football program not covered by the annual football budget. Mr. Kisonas died in 1960 while on active duty with the U.S. Air Force. 55,990 Athletics Separately Invested TIEDEMANN FAMILY (2000) Gift of Carl H. Tiedemann, Income to be used to support the cost of an enhanced men s lacrosse program at the College. Should, in the future, the size of the fund be such that it provides more income than is needed solely for its original purpose, the excess income shall be used first to support women s lacrosse and then other intercollegiate athletic programs at Trinity College as the Trustees and the Tiedemann family may see fit. 908,906 TOTAL 9,445,886
