K of the 4th Iowa Cavalry on Feb 3, He was mustered into federal service on March 7, He was captured during the battle at Bear Creek, MS, on June 22, 1863, and ended up in the POW camp at Richmond, VA. He was later Kirkpatrick John A exchanged on Oct 14, Union K Corporal Lot /30/1929 Kirkpatrick was captured a second time on June 6, 1864, at Brice's Crossroads, MS, but managed to escape his captors, and returned to his unit.
