3 Montrose is a name that has had special significance at Notre Dame for more than 150 years. It is the name of the original building on our beautiful campus a building that is still in active use today as Noyes Alumnae House. For the Notre Dame community, the word Montrose has come to symbolize permanence, commitment, and enduring value. These same qualities inspire many graduates, friends, and their families to invest in Notre Dame s future through legacy giving. By doing so, they are invited to join the Montrose Society, an association that honors those whose foresight and generosity help strengthen and sustain the University. The Society recognizes the commitment of these donors both publicly and privately, and promotes the important role that legacy gifts play in the life of the institution.

4 You can make an impact on the future We invite you to join other graduates and friends who are providing long-term support for Notre Dame. There are a wide variety of ways in which your legacy gift can strengthen the University: 1 Supporting areas of greatest need with an unrestricted gift, 1 Supporting an academic program in which you participated as a student, 1 Establishing scholarships to allow future students access to a Notre Dame education, 1 Funding a new building, renovation, or beautifying campus spaces, I n 1884, Montrose House (now Noyes Alumnae House), a residence for the School Sisters of Notre Dame, became the home and refuge of Mary and Martha Doyle, two young girls who had just lost their mother. Years later, Mary became Sister Mary Philemon, the Mother Provincial of the School Sisters of Notre Dame and the third president of College of Notre Dame of Maryland, now Notre Dame of Maryland University. 1 Creating professorships and faculty support, 1 Enabling new technologies across the campus, 1 Establishing lecture series or artistic performances, 1 Supporting athletic teams and wellness programs, 1 Creating a gift to honor or memorialize yourself or a loved one.

5 Create your legacy There are many ways you can create a legacy gift, and each is as simple as it is powerful. Your options can include any of the following or a combination of these options: 1 Remembering Notre Dame in your will, 1 Making Notre Dame a beneficiary of your retirement account or insurance policy, 1 Naming Notre Dame as a beneficiary of your savings or checking account, 1 Bequeathing real or personal property to the University, 1 Creating a Notre Dame donor-advised fund naming the University as a beneficiary. When you make an intention to remember Notre Dame of Maryland University in your estate plans, you become a member of the Montrose Society. Society members are recognized for their philanthropic leadership through invitations to actively participate in the life of the University and attend the Montrose Society Pinning Ceremony, held each fall to honor our members intentions and generosity. Most importantly, your decision to invest in Notre Dame through legacy giving and your membership in the Montrose Society encourage others to join in building a culture of long-term support for the University.
