1 Bellwood Moose 777 Bellwood News May/June 2008 International Convention, Moose History Month, WOTM News and more.. LOOK INSIDE! IMA 2008 Community Service Project This year the Illinois Moose Association has chosen Special Olympics Illinois as the 2008 Community Service Project. Bellwood Lodge has selected to partner with PAEC Special Olympics Athletes. Our first project was a Spaghetti Dinner, including Raffle Table and Bake Sale. As we go to press before the event happens, we are hoping that this first event will be a successful one. We are asking every member of the Bellwood Lodge and Chapter to help out with this special and well deserving cause. Another dinner will be planned in the future. The donation for the dinner is a small amount, going a long way to help these Athletes. Please consider giving of your time to attend events that we are sponsoring, and to participate in this cause. This is a GREAT way to make Bellwood Lodge and Chapter known in our Community. Let s put our best foot forward and Make it Happen. Bellwood Lodge and Chapter have much to offer to those in need. Together, we can do whatever it takes to get the job done. Let s get out there and support Special Olympics and show our Community what a great Organization we belong to! 120 th Annual International Moose Convention 96 th Annual Women of the Moose Conference Las Vegas, Nevada June 20 25, 2008 Moose Pride!! Co-Workers, once again we have changes in our Ritual and Business Meeting Procedure. Please attend our meeting to see the changes as set forth by International. We are in a less formal setting. We ask for your support by your attendance. Community Service. We are still saving pop tabs for Ronald McDonald House at Loyola. They are grateful for our donations. These pop tabs help offset their expenses in keeping the house afloat. Once again, we will be collecting empty printer ink cartridges for the traveling Soccer Team. This helps the team offset their expenses. Last year they traveled to Italy. If you have any of the above items, please bring them in to Corrine Popelka, who will collect and take them to the respective places. If she is not around, give them the to any WOTM officer. Quotes from the Suggestion Box Hey, What s UP! We have a new bartender on Sunday and he is Nice, CUTE and Funny!! Is he married? Does he have money? Is he aware of the fact that there are many, many, many single mature women that come into our Social Quarters on Sundays just because he is there? Could someone tell him that Our Eyes are on Him - soooooooo could he bring his little black address book for social numbers. I don t know about anyone else, but I have noticed the Mr. Cleanliness of our Lodge. The smell of potpourri is better than the smell of Lysol. I don t even mind going to the bathroom and staying an extra moment or two. Keep up the good cleaning!!! Smells great!!! The talk around our Lodge is about our upcoming picnic. Is it possible for us to set it up in the parking lot next to our building? This would be more comfortable for our seniors who cannot take the heat and eliminate the bugs on our food. Just a hint!!!!! 6

7 FROM YOUR PILGRIM Bill Martino I would like to thank all the members and guests who participated in our Annual St. Pat s corned beef Dinner-Dance. I was overwhelmed by the round of applause given when I came out of the kitchen. I share this applause to my fine staff who worked so diligently and professionally and who decorated the hall and tables, cook the vegetables, cut the corned beef, plate the food, and served to our members and guests. I would like to thank personally the following members who served on my committee: Ellen Smith-Yarc (salads); Earl Jackson (corned beef slicer); Mike Culhane and Mike Leskauskas (cabbage); Mike Arnone (carrots); Martha Leskauskas (potatoes & garnish); Virginia Jackson (corned beef weigher and to-go containers); Chris Jackson (dishes, pots & pans clean-up); Barbara Arnone (raffles); D.J. Bill (entertainment); the McNulty Dancers; Judy Bates & Donna Nash (silverware); Jim Bates & Jerry Jowers (cabbage cutters); Jim Aiardo & Zelma (bartenders); Arlene Martino (decorations for hall and Social Quarters, centerpieces, set tables, selling tickets at door, prep work, and many more tasks). It took 17 other members to put this function on and I cannot thank them enough! Thank you to everyone that came to the Easter Party. Special thanks and appreciation to all who helped out Corrine Popelka, John Parrilli, Joe Bathje, Mark Walsh, John Craig and all the older children who helped out. I hope you had a great time and look forward to seeing you next year. Linda Craig Chairman Kid s Parties Thank you to all who participated in our First Ever Casino Trip fundraiser. We hope everyone had a good time. A portion of our proceeds went to support the National Fire Safety Council through the Westchester Fire Department as our Committee s Community Service project. Corrine Popelka Pro-Tem College of Regents Chairman I appreciated the award presented to me by our Administrator for Outstanding Achievement In The Field of Lodge Fraternity Journalism for our Bi-Monthly Newsletter. Our new Editor, Judi Graf, is doing a great job and I wish her all the success! Congratulations to Earl Jackson for receiving the coveted Moose Of The Year award. We cannot say enough for the work that Earl Jackson has done since taking over as Administrator. Earl is a proactive manager who performs well. His leadership in communications, his cooking skills and sanitation of the Kitchen, the makeover of the office and building is the best. The countless hours Earl puts in has given dividends to our Lodge. His unselfishness and work ethics are outstanding. We are very proud to have Earl as our Administrator of Bellwood Moose Lodge 777. Please come out and support our Lodge. The activity has picked up tremendously, so please read our fine Newsletter and come in and get involved! 7 Search the web with and money from Yahoo advertisers will go to Moose Charities, Inc. without you spending a dime! THE CHARITY OF CHOICE IS: MOOSE CHARITIES, INC. If 500,000 Moose members utilized this link, just once daily, it would generate $5,000 a day toward operational expenses at Mooseheart and Moosehaven! If that happened every day of the year, the amount generated for Mooseheart and Moosehaven would be $1.825 MILLION! So -- when you need to search a topic on the Internet, use
