Presenter: Jeri Ziliak Committee Representative: Laura Stearley, Putnam Co SWCD Overview: Want to know a little more about getting QBs to work for you? Find out how easy it is to print 1099 s, reconcile your accounts at the end of the month and keep organized! Align your accounts with the State s financial report for easier year end reporting. Discover why using classes over accounts can help you. Invoicing customers, paying sales tax and creating accounts will be covered. No specific version of QB is required, they are all basically the same. It s not required for the session, but you can bring a laptop and a backup copy of your QBs to practice with. I want to build a pond, who do I call? My neighbors cut down their tree,s can they do that? How do I get rid of beavers in my creek? These and many other strange questions to be discussed. Oh No You re kidding! The port a john did what? Have you ever experienced one of those moments when nothing else could go wrong but it does? Let s go Geocaching Presenter: AK Pritchard & Erika Cornett Committee Representative: Cathy Paradise, Brown Co SWCD Session Overview: Introduction to Geocaching, When to got started, The Geocaching Lingo, Introduce Recycled SWAG(stuff we all get), Learning the rules and Website (need access to Computer) GPS and how it works for Geocaching, Companies who make GPS and Show how to enter coordinates into GPS then doing a hunt for caches. Session II / 12:30 3:45pm Leonard Springs Nature Walk Karst, Wetlands, Forest and Invasive Plants Presenter: Committee Representative: Martha Miller, Monroe Co SWCD Session Overview: Let s walk and discover some of the hidden treasures of Leonard Springs. An area of land rich in history to the water supply of Monroe County and saturated with this underground pennon karst topography. An area originally rich in fresh water springs, then a reservoir that was to hold water for hundred and finally to evolve into an amazing wetland, a home for a multitude of wildlife that can be observed by many. Above and beyond the amazing springs and wetland as you walk the approximately 1 mile trail through the wooded area and back up across the open space one can observe the changes in the forest cover and the impact of invasive plants.

4 TECHNICAL FOCUSED SESSIONS Location: Holiday Inn Express Hotel Main Level Meeting Room Session 1 / 10:00 11:30am What is a Toolkit? Presenter: Miranda McGillem Committee Representative: Jan Came, Vigo Co SWCD Session Overview: This session will be an introduction to Toolkit Maps and Planning. I will give you some helpful tips and go through how to produce soil maps, planning buffers and waterways using Toolkit. Take home examples will be provided. Also, we will briefly look at the Practice Scheduler and the Contract Wizards in Toolkit for those interested in conservation planning. Come with any questions you might have about Toolkit. 5 MEET OUR GUEST PRESENTERS PRESENTER: Jerod Chew, Director Environmental Stewardship will be our guest speaker for the Pre Conference Celebration and Kick Off at Oliver Winery on Tuesday, October 12. Jerod has been with the State of Indiana and the Division of Soil Conservation for 8 years. From 2002 to 2005 he served the division as a Resource and Stormwater Specialist working with landowners and contractors in the field. In 2005 the Division of Soil Conservation moved to the Indiana State Department of Agriculture and Jerod served as the Assistant Director of Soil Conservation until April of 2009 when he was named the Director of the Division of Soil Conservation and Environmental Stewardship Initiatives. Prior to working for the state, Jerod served as a St. Joseph County Soil and Water Conservation District employee. Additionally, Jerod s experience includes serving as an Outdoor Educator for Bradford Woods, a wildlife research assistant for Indiana State University, and various natural resources education positions. Jerod has a passion for the conservation of our natural resources and enjoys many outdoor activities such as hiking, boating, fishing, and camping. Jerod is a graduate of Indiana State University with a Bachelor of Science in Life Science with an Ecology emphasis. He currently lives in Greencastle with his wife Amy and sons Keaton and Landon. PRESENTER: Lisa Holscher is the watershed coordinator for the West Central Indiana Watershed Alliance which covers 265,000 acres and crosses the boundaries of Clay, Greene, Sullivan and Vigo counties. PRESENTER: Cathy Meyer has a Master s Degree in Biology and Environmental Science from Indiana University. She has been a Naturalist for the Monroe County Parks and Recreation Department in Bloomington, Indiana, since She is responsible for planning and implementing environmental education presentations for school groups, teachers, day camps, and the public. She is a facilitator for Project WET, Project WILD, PLT, and Hoosier Riverwatch. PRESENTER: Missy Shaber has had over ten years experience in soil conservation, specializing in erosion and sediment control on urban and agricultural lands. She was previously employed by the DNR, Division of Soil Conservation and the Lawrence County Soil and Water Conservation District. While with these agencies, Missy worked on implementation of Rule 5, which prepared her for her current position of Storm Water Specialist with the IDEM, Office of Water Quality Wetlands & Storm Water Section. Missy is a Certified Professional for Erosion and Sediment Control and holds a B.A. degree from Indiana University. PRESENTER: Miranda McGill is originally from Gibson County, Miranda first became involved with Soil and Water Conservation District while in high school. She participated in the Hoosier River Watch and Pigeon Creek Clean Up sponsored by the local SWCD. She became a student trainee with the Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) while in college. In 2004 she graduated from the University of Evansville, where she majored in Environmental Science. Miranda has been a full time employee with NRCS since In the past, she has worked in Gibson and Carroll Counties. Currently, she is stationed in Sullivan County as a Soil Conservationist. PRESENTER: Jeri Ziliak has been with the Posey County SWCD since May 2000 and has been using Quick Books since Jeri s peers and others view her knowledge and skills in various areas but especially in the use of

6 Quick Books. Jeri is active in the Indiana Envirothon, with I.D.E.A. and has given presentations on Quick Books. She has helped set up multiple family farm accounts and is currently helping her daughters set up their new business utilizing Quick Books. Her kindness and willingness to spend time with and assist other Districts with their Quick Books questions and concerns is truly appreciated, invaluable and needed by many. PRESENTER: AK Pritchard grew up in Brown County. She is the mother of 2 Yorkies, Jecca and Jasmine. She works for Byram Healthcare. Her interests include working in her yard, hunting for Geodes and Geocaching. A.K. began Geocaching to get exercise and to visit new places. PRESENTER: Erika Cornett a long time resident of Indianapolis is a mother of 2. She works for Howard Regional Health Systems in Kokomo. Her interests include reading, knitting, scrapbooking and Geocaching. Erika began Geocaching as a hobby to get kids out of the house and away from TV and Video games. The Counties of the North Southwest Region include: Brown, Clay, Greene, Johnson, Monroe, Morgan, Owen, Parke, Putnam, Sullivan, Vermillion and Vigo. Each district has its own distinctive natural resource concern and qualities.
