1 From the Desk of the City Manager Earlier this week, I reached out to my counterpart at the City of Hallandale Beach, Dan Rosmond, to request additional review of the redevelopment proposal for the Diplomat Golf, Tennis and Yacht Club that came before the Hallandale City Commission for approval this week. The project would consist of 250 multi-family residential units, 938 new hotel rooms, 70,960 square feet of accessory hotel uses, accessory parking, and four singlefamily homes. While the portion of the golf course slated for redevelopment is not immediately adjacent to Hollywood s borders, the traffic analysis done by the developer does suggest there could be some impacts to local neighborhood roadways in Hollywood. The City s Planning Division Director, Jaye Epstein, has reached out to the Director of Development Services in Hallandale and is working to set up a meeting to discuss the proposed project. The plans to rebuild the new Fire Station 45 are moving through the development review process. The project is tentatively scheduled to be reviewed by the Technical Advisory Committee on February 16 th. The new 7,224 square foot building will be in compliance with the City s Green Building Ordinance and will be Silver USGBC certified. An RFQ for General Contractor Pre-Qualification for Construction of Public Safety and City Capital Improvement Projects was issued on January 13, 2016 and closes on Monday, February 8, A list of pre-qualified general contractors will be generated from the submittals. These contractors will then be available to bid on the construction documents for Fire Station No.45. Additionally, Fire Chief Eric Busenbarrick and Deputy Fire Chief Chris Pratt will be attending the Boulevard Heights Neighborhood Association Meeting on Tuesday, February 9 th at the Boulevard Heights Community Center, 6770 Garfield Street. They will be speaking at approximately 8:00 p.m. to provide information to residents on the current staging of units that Station 45 response area and how the response area is being fully covered during the process of replacing the old station with a new structure. The Boulevard Heights Neighborhood Association has invited surrounding neighborhood groups to attend the meeting if they have questions. Additionally, Chief Busenbarrick has reached out to all of the neighborhood associations in the Station 45 service area to see if they would like a presentation at one of their upcoming meetings. 1

2 From the Desk of the City Manager (continued) Through our state lobbyists, the City is closely monitoring the progression of a new compact with the Seminole Tribe of Florida that would allow the tribe to significantly expand its operations in Hollywood. The new gaming agreement would also reportedly allow for changes at the pari-mutuel facilities near Hollywood. Staff is reviewing the plans and compiling information on the potential added impacts to traffic, housing demand and public safety the proposed increase in hotel rooms and facilities would create. Additionally, our federal lobbyists continue to monitor any application through the Federal Bureau of Indian Affairs regarding the status of the lands various tribal entities own within Hollywood near or adjacent to the trust lands. The City of Hollywood is assisting with the new Yellow Dot Program launched by Broward County. The idea behind this voluntary program is to help save lives in the critical moments after a car accident. The Yellow Dot Motorist Medical Information Program is designed to assist first responders in the event of a medical emergency where the participant's vehicle is involved. A Yellow Dot decal displayed on the rear windshield, or in a clearly visible location on a motorcycle, alerts emergency responders to look for the Yellow Dot pamphlet in the vehicle's glove compartment. Pamphlet information, filled out by the participant, is designed to help emergency responders decide how to treat a person who may be unconscious following an accident or medical emergency. Yellow Dot decals and pamphlets are available at the City of Hollywood Fire Rescue Administration Office at Station 74 at 2741 Stirling Road in Hollywood. Pamphlets and decals are also available at the Hollywood Police Department Headquarters, 3250 Hollywood Boulevard and Community Centers throughout the City. For more information on the Yellow Dot Program or to request a decal and pamphlet call , visit or BCYellowDot@broward.org. 2

3 From the Desk of the City Manager (continued) I look forward to seeing everyone at the upcoming Commission in the Community Open Forum. This is the fifth in the series and will take place on Wednesday, February 10 th at the David Park Community Center. This meeting will be facilitated by District 3 Commissioner Traci Callari. Again, the Commission will provide pizza and soft drinks from 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. with the forum then getting underway and running until 8:00 p.m. Although I haven t tracked the official count, I believe attendance has grown at each consecutive meeting. Residents are taking the opportunity to communicate issues and concerns and ask questions of their elected officials. And last, but certainly not least, the Hollywood Council of Civic Associations will host the first Be Mine Dog Show will at Stan Goldman s Hollywoof Dog Park over Valentine s weekend. It s not too late to teach your 4-legged friend a new trick or two! The show is Saturday, February 13 th from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. To register your dog in advance of the show HCCAdogshow@aol.com. 3
