4 FROM THE OFFICERS Dear AAHOA Members, has been a year of remarkable growth and achievement for AAHOA and its members, particularly on the legislative and regulatory front. Bhavesh B. Patel, CHO Chairman Late in the year, Congress passed the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act and the National Labor Relations Board reversed its 2015 ruling on the joint-employer standard. Both were major victories for small business owners and the millions of Americans they employ. For more than three decades, hoteliers endured the crushing burden of perpetually increasing tax obligations that stifled growth and job creation. Hitesh (HP) Patel, CHA, CHO Vice Chairman Jagruti Panwala, CHO Treasurer Passage of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act changed that; the new law will substantially reform the tax code and give hoteliers new opportunities to reinvest in their properties, increase employee wages, develop new businesses, and create new jobs. Reinstatement of the historical joint-employer definition brings much-needed certainty and stability to hoteliers across the country, by ensuring that the franchise business model will remain a reliable avenue for economic freedom. Neither of these critical policy shifts could have happened without the tireless efforts of AAHOA members who sent over 15,000 letters, made hundreds of phone calls, and held more than 200 meetings with government officials. Biran Patel, CHO Secretary Chip Rogers President & CEO The growth in AAHOA membership along with the increase in PAC donations received in, contributed to our ability as an association to educate lawmakers on the ways in which reform in both of these areas would stimulate economic growth and job creation. 4 AAHOA ANNUAL REPORT

5 Our collective voice is stronger now, and the impact we re able to make is greater than it has ever been. Because of the strides made in, hoteliers are now poised to capitalize on new growth opportunities for their businesses and employees. Bhavesh B. Patel, CHO Chairman Participation in AAHOA education and events has widened the association s reach as well. In, AAHOA hosted and participated in more than 200 local, regional, and national hotel-industry events and a record-setting 11,000+ members engaged in AAHOA education offerings. With new and exciting changes being made in 2018, we expect that hoteliers will increasingly look to AAHOA as a resource for not only personal professional development, but the industry knowledge they need to strengthen every aspect of their business. Additionally, AAHOA welcomed 20 new Founding Members in, the highest number ever in a calendar year. Now with more than 500 vendor partners, members have access to an impressive collection of money-saving benefits, special deals and discounts, that makes AAHOA membership a tremendously valuable and worthwhile investment. AAHOA is here for you no matter where you are in your career or business pursuits. We aim to continue advancing and protecting the interests of all hoteliers through advocacy, professional development, member benefits and support, and community engagement. While has proven to be a banner year for the association, its members and the hospitality industry at large, we expect 2018 to be even better. Thank you for the opportunity to serve you. Hitesh (HP) Patel, CHA, CHO Vice Chairman Jagruti Panwala, CHO Treasurer Biran Patel, CHO Secretary Chip Rogers President & CEO AAHOA ANNUAL REPORT 5

The new law will significantly cut taxes for small business owners, enabling them to grow their businesses, hire new employees, raise wages, and purchase new properties. JOINT EMPLOYER STANDARD The National Labor Relations Board overturned the new joint employer liability standard created in 2015, which redefined business relationships and could have made franchisees de facto employees of the corporate brand. Three AAHOA members have testified before Congress on this issue and AAHOA continues the fight to ensure it will be codified in statute. 16 REGIONAL RATING SYSTEM Report Card Rating System (as of 5/1/) There are 8 sections that are being graded that have equal weight and are averaged out based on peer rankings to make an overall average score: 1. Paid Membership Percent Increase versus Year Ending 2. Number Increase in Paid Membership 3. Lifetime Members Percent Increase versus Year Ending 4. Number Increase in Lifetime Membership 5. PAC Funds Raised ( Goal: $21,000). PAC Auto Renewal Funds raised 7. Number of PAC donors $35 or higher 8. Number of Town Halls held Bonus 1. Advocacy event in the region will reduce the overall average score by.5. This can include meeting with the local Mayor or meeting with the congressman in his district office. To get credit for the event, submit pictures of the meeting to the office. 2. Volunteerism event in the region will reduce the overall average score by.5. This can include events such as feeding the homeless or handing out turkeys at Thanksgiving. To get credit for the event, submit pictures of the meeting to the office. ***Town Halls are counted from Convention to Convention. ***Town Halls only count once they have been held. Overall Score & Ranking A total score is earned by adding up all the overall rankings and completing a simple average. In this case, since there are 8 criteria, the rankings are added and then divided by 8. If there is participation in a bonus event the overall score is deducted by.5 for an advocacy event and.5 for a volunteer event for a one-time deduction. The score is determined by the lowest overall number which will signify a higher overall ranking in all categories. 1 AAHOA ANNUAL REPORT
