2 LA SALLE UNIVERSITY S WEEKLY INFORMATION CIRCULAR MAY 2 0, 1994 Athletics Committee Meeting April 14, :30 P.M. Hayman Hall Conference Room Attendance: Excused: Absent: Guest: Dr. Robert Albert, Fr. Arthur Bangs FSC, Mr. John French, Mr. John Flood, Mr. Vic Gavin, Ms. Kathi McNichol (Chair), Dr. Linda Merians, Dr. Annette O'Connor, Dr. Joseph Ugras Dr. Theopolis Fair, Dr. David Falcone Mr. James Bologitz, Ms. Susan Gemmell, Mr. A.K. Thakkar Mr. Robert Mullen * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * k k * * Discussion: 1. The minutes of the March 15, 1994 meeting were reviewed. The motion to accept the minutes was made, seconded, and approved by the Committee members present (9-0-0). 2. The Hierarchy evaluation form was distributed. Weights were determined for each of the criteria following discussion. Mr. Mullen agreed to provide pertinent information to the committee on "competitiveness" (Can we or do we field a competitive team?). 3. The Chair outlined the initial efforts of the Gender Equity subcommittee. A tour and review of the Hayman Hall facility has been completed, and a review of all other facilities is scheduled. 4. Dr. O'Connor introduced several student/athletes for interviews. (NOTE: Student/Athlete names have been deleted) is a fifth year senior graduate student, and member of the track and cross country teams. This graduate year is providing her with considerable freedom which she values. She is currently maintaining a 3.4 GPA, and credits this to applying discipline to her time managing and studies. She has had experience under three different coaches, and indicated this required considerable flexibility on the part of the athlete. The full time coach is seen as devoting equal attention to the male and female athletes. The availability of trainers is limited, especially when the Campus News is distributed weekly to foster communication and encourage information sharing among University departments. Articles submitted are the responsibility of their authors alone and do not imply an opinion on the part of La Salle University or the Department of Mail and Duplicating Services.
3 Mr. Mullen reported on the following subjects: A selection of the coach for the female soccer team has been completed. The contract has been signed, but an announcement is scheduled for later. An assistant coach is also being confirmed. Discussion on an alternative for the Civic Center are ongoing. There is a Conference meeting scheduled for May 5. The date for the next meeting is Monday May 9, 1994 with a meeting time of 3:00PM. Submitted by John J. French
