1 July ~ August 2018 Volume 8- Number 4 Available online at The Annual General Meeting of the Lower Beverley Lake Association will be held on July 11 th at the Old Town Hall starting at 6:30 p.m. with refreshments being served. The business portion of the meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m. followed by Guest Speaker Doug Bond, Chairperson of the Bastard and South Burgess Historical Society. The presentation will discuss the unique position of Lower Beverley Lake in geological structures and how the resultant geography provides certain advantages/challenges as the environment is developed and maintained. Join the Lower Beverley Lake Association at the Bradford Pavilion in Lower Beverley Lake Park on July 14 th at 10:00 a.m. for the Annual Youth/Family Event. This year s event will feature a presentation about otters by staff from the Aquatarium in Brockville. Unfortunately, it is not possible to bring the otters to the park but a learning session about them will be fun! Anyone who utilizes the lake on a regular basis will know that there is a group of otters in the lake that are very entertaining to watch and interact with. The otters do not seem particularly people shy. that can be good or bad. The Aquatarium staff will be a great source of information for both young and old! BLAM!! The Beverley Lake Anglers Meeting will be hosted by President Tom Heinze on August 1 st at 7:00 p.m. in his home at 922 Kendrick Lane. Discussion topics will include catches, water conditions and levels, aquatic weed growth, and any other information which can help us to prepare a lake profile. BLAM will also help keep an eye on aids to navigation, wildlife on and in the water, and a general fellowship with other anglers on both of the Beverley Lakes. Obviously, LBLA is dedicated to Lower Beverley Lake, but fishing is common to both. All area anglers are invited to the evening meet and greet and share in a social time while exchanging valuable information about the harvests and conditions on both Beverley Lakes. No one will ask about any secret spots or best baits! The Lower Beverley Lake Clean-Up Day will be held on August 9 th at 10:00 a.m. with a rain date of August 10 th. Volunteers are asked to meet at the Delta Mill Creek boat ramp; pizza lunch will be provided. Everyone is welcome; no experience necessary! The Lower Beverley Lake Association's Annual Picnic will be held on August 11 th in Kendrick's Park starting at 3:00 p.m. Everyone is invited to join Association families for an afternoon of food and fellowship. Bring a dish of food to share; hot dogs will be provided. Page 1 of 10

9 MUNICIPAL NEWS from Councillor Cathy Livingston Telephone: Well summer is finally here but we sure need some rain. Upper Beverley Lake is the lowest it has been in recent memory. Water levels were kept low during the winter while contractors worked on the dam with the hopes that the spring run off would restore levels. Regrettably, this did not happen. The new dam looks good and the MNR will be installing a catwalk which will allow easier access for their employees. The green railing will also be replaced to match the black railing around the dam. Thanks to the Beautification Committee volunteers who have been busy planning since April. Two trees have been planted in Stevens Park and a Blue Spruce tree will be planted in the fall in memory of Ruth Sheridan-Ross, a long-time member of the Beautification Committee. The tree is being donated by the Mensen family with hopes that the tree will eventually be lit during the Christmas season. Two blue Adirondack chairs were placed in Russell Park as a donation from Ron Schleede in celebration of his 60 th anniversary in Delta. A vote of thanks is also extended to Randy and Debbie Drew for the donation of the bird houses. Thanks to the Proctor & Gamble volunteers for painting the Russell Park gazebo and barrels and for helping with other organizations in the village. Following meetings with 3 landscape designers last month, the Delta Community Improvement Committee hired Joe McFarlane from Fairview in Brockville to prepare two conceptual drawings of entire waterfront area which will include improved docking and easier access to the water. An open house will be held at the Old Town Hall to allow residents to view the options and select the best concept. Watch for further details regarding the August meeting. Other exciting news is that of a new business which will be coming to the Hickey House on King Street. We welcome Elizabeth Okum and we look forward to the opening of her business, Ethereal Massage Therapy. Work continues on the Daytown Road, the Plum Hollow Road and Railroad Street. Other exciting things are happening behind the scenes in our Village so please keep a positive attitude about our village when you meet strangers on the street. They could end up being our friends and neighbours and maybe potential business proprietors. As far as I am concerned, we live in the best community in the world! Of course, our own 188 th Annual Delta Fair will be held from July 26 th to July 29 th and it will once again offer fun for the entire family. Many events are planned for the enjoyment of all at Lower Beverley Lake Park, the Old Stone Mill, Blacksmith Shop and the Old Town Hall. Take some time to relax and enjoy your family, friends and community. Page 9 of 10
