Unit Overview: Responsibilities include: Homecoming Weekend, Family Weekend and Welcome Week Advising the Brockport Student Government (BSG) Advising Fraternities and Sororities Campus- wide Programming and Event Policy Management Off-campus Student Services Seymour College Union Operations, including the Gallery Lounge & Gameroom Management of WBSU 89.1 The Point campus radio station Polar Plunge Senior Week

2 Key Performance Indicators/Benchmarks: Number of reservations processed for the Union each academic year Processed a total of 4,137 reservations (including meeting spaces and table reservations) for the Seymour College Union from July 2010 May Hosted 10 outside agency events in the Seymour College Union from July 2010 May 2011, 2 events for new customers and 8 events for repeat customers. Number of returning employees to student staff each year. 17 out of 33 Campus Life student employees from Spring 2010 returned to staff for Fall 2010, including 4 of these employees being promoted to a Union Manager or Assistant Union Manager, 1 returning as a Union Manager, and 1 being selected as the Graduate Student of Building Operations. A total of 8 new student employees were hired for Fall student employees did not continue on to the Spring 2011 semester due to graduation, student teaching assignments, or conflicts with academic schedules. A total of 6 new student employees were hired for Fall Number of programs sponsored by Campus Life per academic year Campus Life sponsored 50 programs in the Fall semester and 28 programs in the Spring semester. Programs included Homecoming Events, Family Weekend Events, Thursdays in the Café, Sunshine Breakfast, performances by local bands (Finding the Found, Tinted Image), tye dye night, craft night, garbage plate night, and so forth. Number of those registered for Family Weekend 247 families registered for Family Weekend (73 registered with no events selected). Of those registered 122 families picked up tickets. (60 attended Rock n Bowl, 40 attended Study Abroad Panel, 105 attended the Pre-game lunch with the President, 32 attended the Legacy Reception, 194 attended Stuff-a-Bear, 10 attended Residential Life Variety Hour, 5 attended Cemetery Walk) Number of Senior Week Attendees 317 attendees for Senior BBQ Held 6 Senior Week events during the week of May 9 12 with a total attendance of 191 participants Goals(please organize by the four constructs)/accomplishments:

3 Academic Quality & Engagement Provide educational purposeful opportunities for students through our graduate assistant and intern opportunities. By Spring 2012, recruit up to 5 interns. To date in Summer 2011, beginning with January 2011 Campus Life has recruited 6 interns and will host another intern for the fall 2011 semester. Co-Curricular Programming & Supportive Services Campus Life facilitated major events and committees will be recognized for their student centered focus. Reorganize the structure of Homecoming, Family Weekend, and Welcome Weekend to a student centered focus with direct student leadership for Homecoming & Family Weekend, and student leadership for the Welcome Weekend Assistant program. Working with Tayler Brown on Homecoming initiatives. Tayler has led committee meet with student group and faculty/staff group, navigated the implementation of new events for Homecoming such as a Pep Rally, Powder Puff Football game, and continue to build upon spirit week. Increase student involvement in Campus Life facilitated committees build collaborative efforts amongst campus constituents on the student experience that involve programming initiatives Student involvement in Homecoming increased from 3 5 students to Reorganize the Campus Wide Programming Committee into the Student Experience Team (SET) Finalized during fall 2010 Develop an application process for student involvement on SET implement a student event management process in collaboration with the campus event management process with BASC Began utilizing Ad Astra reports with the Union Manager team to familiarize them with the online reservation process and new structure to reservations in order to begin transition away from current hard copy reservations. Implement training for students on the online space reservation system and event planning by fall 2011 at The College at Brockport, the Seymour College Union will become recognized as the center of campus life focusing on building community and providing an environment for active and engaged learning for our students and larger community. Beginning to develop in collaboration with Conferences and Event Services Develop a Union Advisory Board Advisory Board has been developed, members have been invited, and meetings will begin in the fall 2011 semester. Enhance a solid student employee training program in collaboration with other departments on campus Collaborated with Recreational Services, Residential Life, Community Development, Health Promotions, and First Year Experience on student employee trainings in both August and January. Began to develop assessment tools to identify future training topics. Administer ACUI/EBI College Union/Student Center Assessment. Will be administered fall 2011 Offer students the opportunity to attend Regional ACU-I conferences to learn about Union and Student Activities Presentation in a Union Manager meeting by a Union Manager and Graduate Assistant on ideas learned at the Regional ACUI conference of things Brockport can adapt and utilize in management of the Union. Complete Union electronic handbook for online Spring 2011 intern, Ashley Randall, worked to complete a Union Handbook which can be utilized online (within links to pictures of meeting spaces) or in print. Develop budgetary cycle for meeting room technological replacements Developing in collaboration with 2011 summer intern, and continue through fall Learning Environment & Quality of Place Develop a renovation/construction plan for the Seymour College Union. Beginning the development in collaboration with 2011 summer intern, and will continue through academic year.

5 Academic Quality & Engagement Hosted 4 student interns for the academic year (3 undergrads and 1 graduate Co-Curricular Programming & Supportive Services Converted to Ad Astra for online reservation system Sent 2 students to the ACUI (Association for College Unions International) Regional Conference and 3 students to NGLA (Northeast Greek Leadership Association) Conference Reorganized the Welcome Weekend schedule with emphasis on student engagement opportunities for both new and returning students Increased student involvement in planning for major events such as Polar Plunge, Senior Week and Homecoming Named student chair for Homecoming Implemented the beginning stages of a Union Advisory Board Reorganized Campus Wide Programming into SET (Student Experience Team) Held a Greek Leadership Retreat in the Fall 2010 for all Greek members (new and active) Co-hosted the Fraternal Leadership Excellence Institute with Geneseo, RIT, and U of R Completed Union Handbook that will go on-line summer 2011 Developed a committee model for Senior Week Introduced 2 new Assistant Union Manager positions 3 out of 6 students from the Union Manager team will be returning to the UM staff for the academic year; and 1 student employee from the academic year has been promoted to Union Manager. Union Manager team completed a community building assignment of implementing a Flash Mob. Students collaborated heavily with Late Night with Ellsworth staff, BTV, and The Point in the planning and implementation. A Culture of Philanthropy & Alumni Connectedness 89.1 The Point continued a long-standing commitment to serving the community with the 17 th annual Coats for Kids event held October 17 th at Brockport Wal-Mart and October 24 th at the Tops in Hamlin. All clothing donations were delivered to the Brockport Clothing Shelf. In addition, the station organized a Prom Promise Friday, April 29 th at Brockport High School featuring a mock car crash with police, fire and medical personnel along with students signing a promise contract. Learning Environment & Quality of Place Seymour College Union became a hub for Fast Trax, allowing students/faculty/staff to check out bikes. Fall semester had 3 bikes and Spring semester increased to 8 bikes. For the first time, the sports department secured credentials to cover the New York Jets training camp held at SUNY Cortland in August and covered the Baseball Hall of Fame induction ceremonies in Cooperstown, NY. Developed a new logo for The Union to help build community, connections and developing learning opportunities in the building.

6 Collaborative Efforts: Welcome Weekend Homecoming Family Weekend Collaborative student training efforts with Recreational Services, HPPS, Residence Life and Community Development Flash Mob on 4/29/11 Support BASC on Commencement preparations by Campus Life student employees placing inserts into diploma covers Pre events meetings with University Police, Venue Managers, and Sponsoring Organization to ensure smooth implementation of events and adherence to event policies. Of note was the weekly meetings with BSG throughout the Spring 2011 semester regarding their spring concert and Brock-the-Port. Fast Trax program implementation with Parking & Transportation Services, Residential Life, and Environmental Health & Safety. Senior Week: Alumni Affairs, BASC Services, Residential Life Learning Communities Numerous 89.1 the Point collaborative efforts, here are some highlights: -broadcast of six high school football and ten high school hockey games -appearances and promotion of 12 summer festivals in Monroe, Genesee and Orleans counties plus the Hilton Apple Festival in October. -Election Night coverage including on site at Republican and Democratic headquarters in Rochester. -live broadcasts of 74 college football, women s and men s basketball, hockey, softball and baseball games including seven playoff contests. Opportunities for Growth: Continuing to increase student involvement on campus life facilitated committees, particularly SET Developing training for students regarding event management processes. Further development of student employee program for student staff. Increased opportunities for community building in the Union. Family Weekend: on campus directional signage, paying online with registration, families are asking for more of a variety of events (such as a brunch/bbq) Homecoming Weekend: continue to build student involvement, focusing on more subcommittee involvement, perhaps develop an application process for becoming a chair, or recruit students from various class years to progressively move toward becoming the chair as they become a junior or senior. Union Managers: continue to develop leadership skills by having returning staff members present training topics in August and/or January training. AV Tech/Set Up Crew student employees: Continue to develop opportunities for students to attend pre event meetings for events they are scheduled to work in order to familiarize staff and customer with one another. For Senior Week: Continue to increase student involvement on campus committees and in Senior Week activities; develop transition/training pieces for incoming committee members; and develop assessment tool for senior week 89.1 the Point investigating possibility of a live broadcast from the Newseum in Washington, D.C.

Increase student involvement in the Family Weekend and Welcome Week committees in order to build collaborative efforts amongst campus constituents on the student experience that involve programming initiatives Develop an application process for student involvement on SET implement a student event management process in collaboration with the campus event management process with BASC Implement training for students on the online space reservation system and event planning by fall 2011 at The College at Brockport, the Seymour College Union will become recognized as the center of campus life focusing on building community and providing an environment for active and engaged learning for our students and larger community Develop an outdoor reservation space policy and communicate to campus. Further develop the structure for the Union Advisory Board Administer ACUI/EBI College Union/Student Center Assessment Fall Offer students the opportunity to attend Regional ACU-I conferences to learn about Union and Student Activities Develop budgetary cycle for meeting room technological replacements Develop a cycle of critical maintenance for the Union Develop a marketing campaign for the College Union and outside agencies in order to increase use of the facility during Winter and summer breaks. Learning Environment & Quality of Place Develop a renovation/construction plan for the Seymour College Union. Develop a marketing place promoting the Union and its activities using the new logo.
