Monthly Birthday Celebration Every 1st Thursday of the month, we honor those seniors who are celebrating their upcoming birthday. The City of West Covina Presents: Summer Concerts Series Every Wednesday till July 25 concerts will be going on at the Civic Center of City Hall. Good music and great times, so don t miss out. 4 Excursions Trip Registration Information Preregistration is required for excursions. To register or for information, call the center or visit the City website at Deluxe motor coaches and professional drivers are used on all trips. 1. All trips leave from the West Covina Senior Center, 2501 E. Cortez St. 2. Registration is accepted in person or online with our registration program DASH. 3. Full payment must be made at the time of registration. 4. If all seats are sold, a waiting list will be established. 5. Trips are subject to change without notice. 6. Trips may be cancelled due to low registration. 7. Participants must be at least 21 years of age and older for casino trips (Bring Valid ID) 8. Trips go rain or shine. 9. Special mobility accommodations must be requested 30 days prior to an excursion. 10. A credit will be provided only if cancellation is made prior to the credit deadline date. No Refunds! 11. A 3% administration fee will be added to each excursion transaction. 4 Pauma Casino Come get a feel for modern gaming and delectable dining. 6 Support Groups & Services Support Groups/Services EYE DAS (Support for the Vision Impaired) A non-profit organization dedicated to helping the visually impaired in the San Gabriel Valley. Membership is open to anyone with impaired, partial or no vision. Sighted individuals are always welcomed. EYE-DAS encourages those with visual problems to become more independent in order to be able to lead more productive and satisfying lives. (Will not be meeting in July/August) 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. 1st Thursday of each month 6 NEW! Make an appointment at the front counter or call the Senior Center at (626) West Covina Dial-A-Ride West Covina Dial-A-Ride offers transportation to residents 55 years of age and older. Residents under the age of 55 that have a physician-certified disability are eligible. Fill out your application and submit here at the Senior Center. Valid identification required. Immediate Needs Transportation Program Coupons are provided by the International Institute of Los Angeles Coupons are intended for emergency use only and are available upon request and approval. Tickets are sold on a first-come first-served basis beginning at 8:30 a.m. All seniors attending the meal program for the first time are required to complete an intake form. Suggested $2.00 Donation for seniors 60+ years Non-Senior $4.00 Monday - Friday 11:30 a.m. AARP Driver Safety Course The AARP Driver Safety Course is designed especially for driver s age 50 and older. By taking a driver safety course, you'll learn the current rules of the road, defensive driving techniques and how to operate your vehicle more safely in today's increasingly challenging driving environment. $15 AARP Members/ $20 non-members Drivers Training, Two Day Course: July 23rd: 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. July 24th: 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Refresher course: Monday, September 24 9:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. *Fee payable to instructor on first day of class Services Continued YWCA Case Management Case Management Services are provided by Intervale Senior Services. This program is oriented to assist the elderly who have problems, which are preventing them from living independently or from receiving needed services. By appointment only. Provided by Healthcare Partners and United Healthcare The Senior Center is happy to announce FREE blood pressure screenings offered by HealthCare Partners for the year of Their next screening will take place on: Day: Wednesday Dates: August 1, September 5 Time: 9:00 a.m. Thank you for your generous service! MEALS ON WHEELS! This is a non profit food delivery program. They deliver well balanced meals to those that have difficulty obtaining meals for themselves due to physical, mental or financial conditions. It is a Monday thru Friday service. Learn new steps and dances that are choreographed to current hits on the radio. Everyone will have fun dancing and getting exercise at the same time. Please wear shoes with backs, no sandals or flip flops. Teaching senior s gentle yoga can help combat the big psychic stresses of old age, loneliness, abandonment, and fear. An important part of the cure, is offering kindness and loving attention. In that way, to share the skills of a yoga practices to offer renewed hope. Our bodies are meant to move, we sit so much that unless there s a real effort to move in other ways, we get stuck. Instructor: Jorge Banda Days & Time: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, 4:30 5:30 p.m. Fee: $3 per class Easy J & J Urban Ballroom Dancing Urban Ballroom Dancing is a smooth, elegant and graceful dance which combines slow dancing, hand dancing and the Cha Cha Cha together. Ulises has been coming to this center for the last 5 years, and all 5 years he has been a valuable volunteer to our meal program.
