3 Daniel (OJ) Allison 9 Park Street, San Rafael Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee Application Supplement My reasons for wanting to serve are: My reasons for wanting to serve are simple: I have a strong desire to improve the bicycle and pedestrian experience here in San Rafael for both our residents, and for those visiting our community. That includes improvements to safety, accessibility, infrastructure, and simply the general biker and walker experience. I am a resident of the Montecito Neighborhood, and really enjoy the ability to walk and bike throughout our town. I also see a lot of room for improvement. I think that walkable and bikeable communities not only improve quality of life and public health, but contribute to vibrant commercial corridors and a community's sense of pride. I am a strong advocate for incentivizing other residents to take advantage of our walk-able and bike-able town and think that while we have something to be proud of, there is a lot more that we could do to make the experience safer, easier, and more enjoyable. I currently serve on the BPAC, having filled a vacant position in spring 2014, and serve on the subcommittee working to revise the committee's charter. I feel that I have a lot more to contribute to the committee and the City and would be honored to continue to serve as a citizen advocate for bicyclists and pedestrians. I have been a long-time cyclist and am fortunate to live in a part of our City that allows me to walk almost every day to meet my basic needs. I understand the challenges faced by bicyclists and pedestrians in our community. During the week, I am an Environmental Planner and Project Manager at a technical services consulting firm, and have worked to help implement planning directives in other Bay Area communities. As a rather new resident to San Rafael, parent, and relatively young member of the community, I think I would bring the unique and representative perspective of San Rafael's young families that will ultimately be enjoying the bicycle and pedestrian improvements you implement. I would like to work hard to help San Rafael be the best it can. I hope that you will consider my application for the vacant committee positions, and I look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, DJ Allison
