Winner will receive $100 off their camp tuition. The first 20 campers to turn in their completed paperwork will be allowed to choose their classes first. You must attend one (1) of the following camp orientations held at the Kenton County Extension office at 6:30 p.m.: March 26, May 14, or June 4. Those who attend the March 26th meeting will be eligible for door prizes which includes one $50.00 off camp tuition prize. Hall of Fame Certified Livestock Volunteer Recognized at the 2018 KVF Dr. Nancy Kloentrup was recognized at the 2018 Kentucky 4-H Volunteer Forum. She has served as a certified Livestock 4-H Volunteer since Nancy is dedicated to educating 4-H Youth and their parents on the fundamentals of livestock and livestock ownership. As a long term member of the livestock community, Nancy is now sharing livestock projects with her grandchild and the children of some of her former 4-H members. She works cooperatively with others to encourage youth to save their livestock funds for their future (Left to Right Todd and Nancy Kloentrup) education. March is Ag Tag Renewal Month Every March, when renewing farm tags, farmers have the opportunity to make a $10 donation to the Ag Tag program which directly supports Kentucky 4-H. Historically, the Ag Tag program has been one of Kentucky 4-H s most rewarding fundraising opportunities. Thank you in advance for supporting this initiative. This annual event allows 4-H members to show off their knowledge of the dairy industry by answering questions on a wide variety of dairy topics. As always, record books will be accepted during office hours in the weeks prior to the deadline. Reminder: the stories must be the child s original work. Record books are available on the web site at: or in the front lobby of the extension office. 4 - H R E C O G N I T I O N P O I N T S L O G S Y S T E M September 6, 2018, Deadline The Kenton County 4-H Recognition Points Log is a system for each 4-H er to record everything they ve done throughout the program year. A designated number of points are awarded for a variety of activities. These logs are used to determine the outstanding boy and girl award that is presented each year at the 4-H Recognition Banquet. They are also helpful when applying for 4-H Achievement Forms. The 4-H Recognition Points Logs are available at the Extension Office in the foyer next to the record books. 5 H Spring Showcase The 4-H Fashion Revue will be held at the Boone County Save The Date Enrichment Center on Monday, Spring Showcase May 21, 2018, as part of the May 21, 2018 twelfth annual 4-H Spring Showcase. This evening will Boone County showcase the talents of many of Enrichment Center our 4-H youth. Fashions will be modeled by our 4-H sewing youth, dessert will be baked and decorated by 4-H cake decorating project group members, teen 4-H ers will serve as the planning committee, 4-H ers will serve as wait staff. The $14 per person fee includes dinner. Please call the extension office if you would like to be added to the invitation list. 4-H Advanced Sewing For Ages April 2-6 from 10:00 a.m. 2:00 p.m. April 9-13 from 10:00 a.m. 2:00 p.m. Jr. Unit II and above and Senior 4-H ers (ages 14-18). The class fee is $ Participants will create a sewing project for the Fashion Revue and fair. A letter with details has been mailed to eligible sewers. Be sure to register at kentoncountyextension.org. (You will need to bring a sack lunch and drink.) The fair entry date is Sunday, July 15. A record book must be completed for participation. DISTRICT AND STATE 4-H HORSE FORMS Forms are due April 24. Watch your mail for more information or call first, then stop by the Extension Office and pick up a packet. Participants must provide their own transportation and chaperons. Contact the Kenton County Extension office for additional details. Redesigned website provides farmers with useful information. The website features timely videos, newsletter and blog articles, featured articles and Twitter updates from CPN partners on important management issues for a variety of field crops as well as the network s corn and soybean publications. The website also includes an encyclopedia of crop diseases to help farmers identify diseases in their fields using extensive image galleries and keywords to filter results. The new website still has all of the great CPN content that users are familiar with, but also adds new resources, and will be updated frequently, said Kiersten Wise, extension plant pathologist in the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture, Food and Environment, and co-director of the network. "Our goal is to help farmers make crop management decisions with relevant and timely information.

7 4-H Yo u th De v e lo p me n t P age 7 4-H Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences Academy The NRESci Academy is a threeyear program designed to teach youth about their natural environment. Scholars participate in hands-on investigations to learn about Kentucky s water, forest and wildlife resources. The Academy is a three-year commitment, and meets quarterly each year. Scholars attend a three-day residential retreat at Lake Cumberland 4-H Educational Center in September and participate in three 1-day events held in winter, spring, and summer. Applicants must be in 5th, 6th, or 7th grades at the time of the application. Registration fee is $200 and includes lodging, meals and educational programming cost. Application forms can be found at: Applications are due to the Kenton County Extension Office by April 23, Kentucky Forest Leadership Program June 3-8, 2018 Jabez, Kentucky Are you interested in the environment and want to know more about forests, trees, insects, water and wildlife? Then consider the Kentucky Forest Leadership Program where you can explore the many aspects of forestry and related fields. If you like hands-on learning in the great outdoors this program is for you. This week-long, residential program is for high school students completing their sophomore and junior years. The Kentucky Forest Leadership Program offers three educational tracks: Forestry students will learn about tree and plant identification, forest evaluation and management, soil and water quality and fire management in Kentucky s forests. Entomology students will learn about insect identification, collection, preservation and ecology. They will also learn about the positive and negative impacts insects can have on Kentucky s forests. Wildlife students will gain experience with different techniques to sample, identify and manage wildlife as well as conducting species diversity and population surveys in various Kentucky habitats. The 4-H ers studied in January and February. The Senior Team placed 10th overall. They learned about meat identification, breeds, structures, feeds, identifying traits, and much more. The team was coached by Mallory Trenkamp. Congratulations to the participants.
